Peter Capstick John Currie Alice Porter Sandra Whitty Peter Gabriel Morrison Steven Whidden ******************************************************************************************************* Peter Capstick Born in: Florence, Canada Passed away in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 27/01/2011 We the family of Peter Joseph Capstick, 57, of Sydney Mines, formerly of Florence, regret to announce the passing of a loving husband, father, brother and friend on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Florence, he was the son of the late Evert and Margaret (Jobes) Capstick. He was a member of St. Pius X parish. Peter worked for Devco for 24 years. He received the Medal of Bravery for the Westray Mine disaster. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and a member of the Colliery Hockey League for years. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Lorna (Harrietha); two daughters, Elisha (Kenneth) MacLean, Stephanie, both of Sydney Mines; seven sisters, Carol Capstick, North Sydney, Judy (Robert) Carter, North Sydney, Maureen (Raymond) Nichol, both of Sydney Mines, Kathy Capstick, Mary (Butch) Fowler, both of Ontario, Sheila Capstick, Lisa (David) Jessome, both of Sydney Mines; one brother Thomas Evert (Elaine) Capstick, Florence; four grandchildren, Mitchel, Quintin, Paiton and Madison. Peter was predeceased by his son, Peter Thomas, sister, Mary Lou and brother, John Gregory. There will be a private family viewing only. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. at St. Pius X Church with Father Thomas John officiating. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stoke Foundation or a charity of choice. Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late Lauchie and Margaret (MacLeod) Currie. John was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard, formerly Mount Carmel Church. He worked many different jobs in Ontario and worked for Devco for 23 years until his retirement. John loved life and spent many hours dancing and listening to his records. He will be missed dearly by his many nieces and nephews as well as his best buddy, Ronnie White. Surviving are sisters, Elizabeth 'Liz' (Ray) MacLeod, Catherine Fraser and Chris Lovelace. John was predeceased by sisters, Margaret Mullins, Joey Currie and Mary Burns; brothers, Tommy and Michael. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home. A family funeral service will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith St., New Waterford on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Beloved wife of the late Dave 'Stump' Porter (1981). Loving mother of David (Christine) and Norm (Karen). Predeceased by son, Lawson and daughters, Barbara, Dorothy and Melinda. Alice is survived by her husband, Charlie 'Binnie'. Granny and Nanners will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Dear sister of David (Ronalda) Cann. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Mildred to Tender Wishes would be appreciated by the family. ************************************ Sandra Whitty Born in: West Tarbot, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Indian Brook, Nova Scotia, Canada It is with great sadness and fond memories, we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Sandra (Smith) Whitty of Indian Brook, Victoria County on at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Jan. 27, 2011, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in West Tarbot, Victoria County, she was the daughter of the late Sarah Jane Buchanan and Donald John (DJ.) Smith, Indian Brook. She was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Baddeck. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Bert; daughter, Donna (Blair) Jessome and their son, Matthew (the pride and joy of her life) of Florence; son, Sheldon (Terri), of Gardiner Mines; granddaughter, Jessica MacDermid of North River; stepdaughter, Nena (Maxx) Whitty; stepgrandson, Blayne MacDonald; sisters, Christine (Duncan) MacEachern, North River, Murdena (Sandy) MacRae, Baddeck, Shirley Hefferon, Baddeck; sisters-in-law, Agnes (Tom) Donovan, Halifax, Lillian (Glen) Pepperdine, Enfield, Catherine (Basil) Favaro, P.E.l.; brothers-in-Iaw, Maurice (Violet) Whitty, lngonish, Joe (Edie) Whitty, Liverpool, Freeman (Flora-Ann) Whitty, Doug (Judy) Whitty, both of P.E.l. and sister-in-law, Catherine Smith, Indian Brook. Over the past six years, Bert and Sandra, lived in Indian Brook, in their new dream home. This was the best six years of their lives. Also during this time period, Bert and Sandra travelled extensively, the highlight of their travels was travelling to Hawaii and going on a 10 day cruise. The body is resting at the MacAskill Funeral Home, 43 Grant St., Baddeck with visitation hours from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011 at St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetary. "Part of us went with you the day God called you home." ************************************* Peter Gabriel Morrison Born in: Loch Lomond, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 25/01/2011 Peter Graham Morrison, 48, of Dartmouth N.S., passed away peacefully Jan. 25, 2011, at the VG Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Peter was the son of the late William and Helen (MacInnis) Morrison, Loch Lomond. Peter was a member of the Calvin Presbyterian church and also a volunteer firefighter in Loch Lomond, until moving to Dartmouth where he worked for Miller Tire for a number of years. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Cindy (Weeks); sisters, Ann Neil, Halifax, Wilma (Gordon) Rhodenizer, Mahone Bay; brothers, Dan Alex, Kenneth, both of Loch Lomond, David, Howie Centre, Robert Albert. Several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will he held April 29, 2011, at 2 p.m., Calvin Presbyterian church, 3311 Ashburn Ave., (Bayers Road), Halifax, N.S., Rev. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA, in respect to his great love for all animals. ****************************************** Steven Whidden Passed away in: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Passed away on: 20/01/2011 Steven John Whidden, 44 of Truro, formerly of Edmonton, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, in Edmonton. Born in Truro, he was the son of Carol Parks and John Whidden, both of Truro. Steven was employed as a truck driver most of his life. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a very loving spouse, father, and friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his loving fiancé, Audrey Heidi Marshall of Membertou; his pride and joy daughter, Jennifer; stepdaughters, Vanessa and Lindsay (Joseph); a sister, Susan; brothers, Roddie and Troy; grandmother, Gladys Whidden; grandfather, George Pulsifer; five special grandchildren and by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and special cat, 'Snuggles'. He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Gordon Whidden and maternal grandparents, Evelyn Pulsifer and Stanton Jenkins. Visitation for the late Steven Whidden will start after 1 p.m. today (Saturday) at 24 Maillard St., Membertou until 8 am Sunday, then from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Monday, January 31 at Colchester Community Funeral Home, Truro.
