Henry Francis 'Dit' Burns Helen Leone (Holland) Prozny Alexander 'Alex' Bates Roy Rice ******************************************************************************************************* Henry Francis 'Dit' Burns Born in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: River Ryan, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 18/01/2011 It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Henry Francis 'Dit' Burns, 80, of River Ryan, on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Dennis and Amy (Bourgeois) Burns. Henry was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard, formerly Mount Carmel Church and an honorary member of the Mount Carmel Auditorium Committee, New Waterford. He worked for Devco for 38 years until his retirement. Henry was an avid sportsfan who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as his friends at the KOC and Tim Hortons. Surviving are daughters, Pauline (Glen) Tutty, Albert Bridge, Patsy (Ronnie) White, River Ryan, Heather (Greg) Fortier, North Bay, Ont., Paulette Stanford Burns (Ross), River Ryan; son, Francis (Rita) Burns, Marion Bridge; brother, Michael (Muriel) Burns, Dominion; sisters, Dorothy Groom, Janie (Hector) Peori, both of Dominion; grandchildren, Ronnie and Craig White, Matthew Stanford, Blair Boone, Justin and Janelle Burns, Dylan Fortier. Henry was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Currie), brothers Joe and William, sisters, Teresa Odo and Yvonne Mullins. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Friday, Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ********************************* Helen Leone (Holland) Prozny Passed away in: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Leone passed away peacefully in Edmonton, at the age of 72, surrounded by her loving family after a valiant battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 48 years, Eugene; son, Paul; daughter, Sharon (Michael) Chatenay and three grandchildren, Keaton, Krysten and Jayden Chatenay. She was predeceased by her brother, William Holland, father, Isaac and mother, Isabel (Driscoll) and is survived by her brothers, David (Gwen), Ken (Deb) and Eric (Karen); sisters, Carmella (Don) Beavis and Sherraine (Earl) Christopherson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and myriads of close friends in Edmonton and abroad. A celebration of Leone's life will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Richmond Park Church, 9340-69 Ave., Edmonton at 1 p.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada, Tourette Syndrome Foundation of Canada or the charity of your choice. *********************************** Alexander 'Alex' Bates Born in: Bateston, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Bateston, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 17/01/2011 It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Alex Bates, Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness. Born in Bateston, he was the son of the late Austin and Alice (O'Neil) Bates. Alex was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception parish, and an honorary member of the Bateston Athletic Club. He was a quadriplegic for 50 years after a car accident. Alex enjoyed life, spending time with family and listening to fiddle music and watching horseracing. Alex is survived by his brother, Jim (Williamena) Bates; sisters, Marie White, Eileen Boutilier, all of Bateston, Susan MacDonald, North Sydney, Theresa MacDonald, Rita Bates, both of Sydney; sister-in-law, Iris Bates; brother-in-law, Tom Wilcox; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Alice Wilcox, brothers, Dave, John (Helen), Herman, Gerard and three siblings in infancy. Visitation will take place Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Main-a-Dieu. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20 in Immaculate Conception Church with Fr. Patrick O'Neill officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
