Wendell August Roland Margaret 'Kathleen' (Beaton) Hayes Ronald Adams William 'Bill' Covey ******************************************************************************************************* Wendell August Roland Born in: Mill Creek, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 21/12/1927 Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 12/01/2011 Grief stricken and heart broken we announce the passing of our dad. At the age of 83 he passed away Jan. 12, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Mill Creek, on Dec. 21, 1927, he was the son of the late August and Florence (Boutilier) Roland. He was a loving, caring and hard working father, father-in-law, grandfather, husband, brother, brother-in-law and friend. He worked in the Beaver Coal Mine as well as the Broughton Coal Mine for several years. He drove the school bus, ran an Irving service center in Dominion, drove trucks, operated a back hoe and did carpentry work. There wasn't much that dad couldn't do. Being a very kind man he would do all he could to help those in need. He lived to fish with his brothers and friends and went every chance he got. Dad also loved to hunt in his healthier days. He was fun to be with and a great storyteller. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in North Sydney. He is survived by his two daughters, Shirley Parsons, Halifax, Dale (Philip) McQueen, Broughton Road; six grandchildren, Susan, Heather, Sharon, Troy, Deana and Justin, all of Halifax, Montreal, and British Columbia; 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Marie MacMullin, Truro, Annie Fitzgerald, Mill Creek; two brothers, Wes (Irene) Roland, Glace Bay, George (Helen) David, Sydney; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Wendell was predeceased just a short time ago on Nov. 3, 2010, by his wife and best friend, Helen (Rogers) Roland, son-in-law, Melvin Parsons, brother, Claude Wilson Roland and sister, Eileen Bonnar. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Dad's life will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 31 Peppett St., North Sydney, 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Saying goodbye is very difficult because we love him and will miss him a great deal but he is sleeping peacefully now and we look forward to the promise of the resurrection morning. Born June 30, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Angus Dan and Jessie (MacPhee) Beaton. Kathleen was a member of the St. Peter's parish and Catholic Women's League in Port Hood. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, James Hayes; sister, Anne; brother, Neil and brother-in-law, Alexander Beaton. She is survived by her sister, Mary Catherine (Pat) Gillis, Lower Sackville; brothers, A.J. (Annie), Port Hood, Lawrence (Mary), Waltham, Mass.; sister-in-law, Mary Buchanan, Port Hood and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, whom she loved, and who loved her dearly. Visitation will take place in Port Hood Resting Place today (Friday), Jan. 14, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral will take place at St. Peter's Church on Saturday, Jan.15, 2011 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.invernessfuneralhome.com. *********************************** Ronald Adams Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 09/04/1922 Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 11/01/2011 Ron Adams passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his daughter, Marie her husband Roy and granddaughter, Joyce by his side. Ron was born April 9, 1922, in Glace Bay. He was a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, where he lived for the past three years. Ron worked in the coal mines for 40 years before his retirement. He leaves behind his wife, Harriett (Walters) Adams, Port aux Basques, Nfld.; his children, Marie (Roy) Davidson, Cliff Adams, Arlene (John) Li; his grandchildren, Joyce Nicholson, Rhonda Davidson, Clinton Davidson, Raymond Adams, Anita Yates, Colin Adams, Jalianne Li, Allison Harris, step grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and step-great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Ron was predeceased by his parents, William and Mariam Adams, his first wife, Doris (Mason) Adams; his second wife, Carrie (Musgrave) Adams and daughter, Carolyn Adams. At Ron's request, there will be no visitation. A private family gathering and burial will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army Sydney Community Church. Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late William and Ida (Mader) Covey. Bill was veteran of the Second World War and formerly employed with Standard Paving, among many others. Surviving are his daughter, Pearl Aucoin, Sydney; son, Bill Covey, Toronto; grandchildren, Debbie (George) MacNeil, Raylene (Billy) Higdon, Rosa (Perry) Antonello and Sonya Aucoin; several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and sister-in-law, Mary Covey. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine (Booth); son, Robert; sisters, Mae, Grace, Minnie and Ella; brothers, Art and Roy. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Monday 2 p.m., with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
