Juanita 'Neats' Steele, RN Gabriel 'Gabe' Andrea Ein Young Sr. William 'Billy' Mahoney LeBlanc Edith (Beddow) Gray William "Bill" Lawrence Barrett ******************************************************************************************************* Juanita 'Neats' Steele, RN Born in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 12/10/1939 Passed away in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 27/01/2011 Juanita 'Neats' Steele, RN, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, Oct. 12, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Sadie (MacDougall) Steele. A graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital Nursing School, Juanita worked for many years at Harbour View, Northside and Stratford General hospitals. She is survived by her brother, Bryan, Dartmouth, and his family, Jocelyn (Basil) Graham and their son, Hayden, Michael (Corey) and their son, Logan; her three sisters, Sue Kelly, Stratford, Ont., and her family, Michelle (Jeff) Carr, Stratford, Rick, California, Sean (Lucy), Stratford, Shane, British Columbia; Debbie (Blaise) Walker, Dartmouth, and their children, Stephanie and Brian; and Claudia, Sydney Mines; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends. Besides her obvious love of sports, she will always be remembered for her generosity, kindness and compassion to all who knew her. She will be especially missed by her sister, Claudia to whom she devoted most of her life. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northside Mental Health Clinic, c/o the Cape Breton Mental Health Foundation. May God bless you. ********************************* Gabriel 'Gabe' Andrea Born in: Bras d'Or, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 06/08/1928 Passed away on: 26/01/2011 Gabriel 'Gabe' Andrea, 82, longtime resident of the Northside passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 6, 1928, he was the son of the late Jeannette Marie (Gauthier) Andrea and Michael J. Andrea of Bras d'Or. After high school, Gabe spent his early years working as a wheelsman sailing on the Great Lakes. In 1958, he joined the Cape Breton Post, first in newspaper circulation and later in the advertising department. He worked out of the Northside office for many years, until retirement in 1993. Gabe valued the many friends he met through his work and his involvement in the Kinsmen Club of North Sydney, Northside Minor Hockey, the Cape Breton Exhibition's parade, and other community events. Over the years, Gabe spent much of his time tending to ice rinks and lawnmowing. He enjoyed spending time with his pets; playing, coaching and watching local hockey; fishing with brothers, sons and grandchildren and relating stories of boating adventures. Above all he cherished time spent with his grandchildren, who never failed to put a smile on his face. Gabe is survived by his wife of 53 years, Martina (Bates); and his seven children, Gerard (Mary Lou), Sydney Mines, Kevin (Joanie), Edmonton, Larry (Wendy), Boularderie, Stephen, Boisdale, Anita (Liam MacNeil), Sydney Mines, Brian (Wanda), Sydney Mines, and Martin (Michelle), Sydney Mines. He will be greatly missed by his 12 grandchildren, Caitlin, Bailey, Sean, Meghan, Andrea, Kale, Genevieve, Peter, Breagh, Mary Kate, Matthew and Luke. He is also survived by 13 brothers and sisters, John, Olga Bushell, Rita, Joe (Nellie), Dave (Barb), Elias (Agnes), Francis, Leonard, Lauretta (Herm Smith), Bernie, Tony (Barb), Fr. Jake and Eugene (Ann). Gabe was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Theresa (Denny Hounslow). Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30 at Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Jan. 31, 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to d.francis@ns.sympatico.ca. *********************************** Ein Young Sr. Born in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 23/01/2011 Sailed out of port for his final journey on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, from St. Catharines General Hospital after a short battle with cancer. He leaves behind his loving wife and partner, Sheila; his children who meant the world to him, Lee (John) Zavarella, Ein Jr. (Tracy), Kevin, TJ (Samm); stepchildren, Teresa Hickey, Glenn, Billy Gillis (Lisa). Loved dearly by his mother, Ruth Young (Mommy's little boy) and the late Roy Young. His sister, Ruth Matheson (Winston); his baby sister, Maxine MacMullin (Michael), with whom he had a special bond. Loving poppy to Amanda, Alex, Melissa, Kurtus, Jaime-Lee, Kaitlyn, Dawson and Rylan. Predeceased by an infant son, Ein Gregory. Ein was born in Sydney Mines, N.S., and moved to Ontario in 1980 and started sailing with ULS Shipping Company until his retirement in 2007. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club after sailing for 25 years. His journey is over but he left behind a million happy memories. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St. Family flowers only please. Born in Halifax, he lived most of his life in Scotlake, Georges River. He lived in Alberta for many years working at Local 1325 Carpenters' & Joiners. Billy loved hunting and fishing in the highlands. He always held a special spot in his heart for Cape Breton. He will be sadly missed by everyone. Billy is survived by his dad, Maurice LeBlanc (Christena), Alder Point; his biological father, James Maloney, Alberta; brother, James Maloney (Gabriele), Edmonton; and his sister, Holly LeBlanc, Edmonton; grandmother, Lorraine Roland, North Sydney; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annie (Sweet) Beddow. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert G. Gray; her sisters, Liza, Annette, Eleanor, Minnie, Catherine; brothers, John, Harry, Joseph, Arron, Bill and Walter. She is survived by her three sons, Robert (Carrol) of Norton, Mass., Kenneth (Claudette) of Sydney and Brian (Linda) of Billerica, Mass., (who resided with his mother). Also surviving are six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving is a sister, Vera Stewart (Roderick) of Sherwood Park, Alberta. Service will be held in Billerica, Mass.
