Beloved husband of Bess (nee Maidment). Loving father of Mark (Tammy), Todd (Marielle), Craig, and David (Melissa). Cherished poppa of Elizabeth, Jesse, Raymond, Robbie and Caitlin. Survived by his brothers, Bill (Florence), George (Mae), Don (Shirley) and Ken (Linda); his sisters, Mary McDougall and Verda MacKenzie; and by his sister-in-law, Ethel Barrett. Alton 'Al' Fraser of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Boston. Alton was born in Reserve Mines, N.S., in 1933, died in St. Petersburg on April 20, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Geri (Clark) and two daughters, Lynn Oliver (John) of Boston and Leslie St. Cyr of Dedham. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Ryan Oliver of Boston, Katelyn and Brian St. Cyr of Dedham. Brother of Alex and Burt Fraser. Al was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Fraser and sisters, Isabell King, Olive Vingar and brother, Sonny Fraser. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Alton is also survived by two very special cousins, Ave McEachern Kenney (Bob) of No Easton and Colleen McEachern McLean of Westwood. Funeral mass will be held at St. John Chrysostom Church, 4750 Washington St., West Roxbury at 10 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011 ************************************ Frederick 'Teddy' Gouthro Born In: Gardiner Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 20/11/1933 Passed Away In: Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 23/04/2011 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick 'Teddy' Gouthro on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at his home in Whitney Pier. Born in Gardiner Mines, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nellie (Boutillier) Gouthro. He was the youngest of 13 children. His love and dedication to his family will be forever remembered and cherished by his wife of 49 years, Joan (MacDougall) and his sons, Glenn (Angela), Sydney, Roy (Hope), Truro, Scott (Patty), Dartmouth, and John, Yellowknife. Teddy was the grandfather to nine special grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Fiona, Sarah, Marc, Isabella, Olivia, Tyler, Kyle, Emma and Kenzie. Teddy is also survived and will be deeply missed by his sisters, Christie Burke and Isobel (Fred) Baker, both of New Waterford; his brother-in-law, Lorway (Doreen) MacDougall, as well as his many nieces and nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Henry and Sonny and his sisters, Rose, Mary, Hester, Elizabeth, Catherine, Alice and Rosie. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Daisy MacDougall. He was a devoted husband and family man. Teddy was a great father to his boys and always did his best to provide for them in a way that they were given every opportunity to succeed at whatever they chose to do. He got his greatest pleasure from life's simplest things like gatherings with family and friends, attending his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, music concerts and dance recitals, as well as playing horseshoes with his buddies or working in his shop or backyard. As the owner and operator of Teddy's Washer Service for more than 40 years, he left a positive mark on his community through his tireless work for his customers, whom he valued so dearly. He frequently volunteered his time with hockey teams in the Whitney Pier and Sydney Minor Hockey Associations. He was a recent inductee into the Cape Breton Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1981-1982 Cape Breton Colonels Midget Hockey Team. Teddy met many people in his lifetime and made many friends. He had a terrific sense of humour and was blessed with the ability to tell a great story. He will be missed very, very much. Visitation for Teddy will be held Wednesday, April 27, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will take place Thursday at 11 a.m. in Trinity United Church, Whitney Pier, with Rev. Maggie Coleman and Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Born in Loch Lomond (Lake Uist) to the late Hector and Nellie (Holmes) MacDonald. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald in 1989 and infant brother, Hugh James. Mary is survived by her sister, Effie and brother-in-law, Angus MacDonald, Enon; special cousins, Joan Ferguson and Hector MacDonald; and many more cousins, good friends and in-laws. Mary was a graduate of Sydney Academy and Provincial Normal College, Truro. A well-respected teacher for 35 years, with about 30 years spent at Eastmount School, Whitney Pier. Mary was a member of Loch Lomond United Church, where she was organist for more than 60 years, she was also an adherent of Trinity United Church, Whitney Pier, member of Trinity U.C.W and active in the affairs of the church, member of the United Church Women, member of Sydney Presbytery of the United Church of Canada, Cape Breton Council of Churches, president of Loch Lomond Heritage Association, and former member of the Cape Breton Gaelic Choir. Family and friends showed her great kindness during her last days, for that her family is deeply grateful. We will miss her, as she was a remarkable woman. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Thursday 2 p.m. from Calvin Presbyterian Church, Loch Lomond, the minister officiating will be Lynn MacKinnon. Interment in MacKeigan Cemetery, Loch Lomond. Steve was a positive man who could always brighten your day. He was a wonderful man who loved and valued his family greatly. Steve was a passionate guitarist, whether he was creating or teaching music. He is survived by his wife, Gayle (Reid); children, Justine, Amanda, Rory, Alicia and Melissa; mother, Virginia Lake; sister, Dawn Lake; brothers, Brian (Davida) and Ronnie (Carol) and seven grandchildren. He was an uncle and great-uncle. Steve was predeceased by his father, Charles J. Lake. While we mourn for Stephen, we must be thankful we were blessed to have such an amazing person in our lives.
