Born in Port Morien, the daughter of the late Chester and Dolly (Stillman) MacIntosh, Mary was a resident of York Street until entering Seaview Manor. Prior to her marriage, Mary trained and worked in Montreal as a CNA. Mary was a former member of Epworth United Church and the church choir and is now a member of Newsom United Church. She was a former Brownie leader as well as one of the original members of the Coal Town Chorus. Mary enjoyed numerous outings of entertaining as well with the Cape Breton Ukulele Strummers. She enjoyed many wonderful times camping and canoeing at Mira Provincial Park with her husband, Roy and special furry friend, Eriskay. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roy, former Glace Bay Fire Chief and daughter, Wendy as well as sisters, Georgie Mitchell and Mabel Maloney. Left to survive her loss is daughter, Sandra (Butch) Shibinette; grandson, Adam (Angelina); sisters, Caresse Sheppard, Dawn (Russell) Power, Paulette (Kenny) MacDougall; brothers, Chester (Anderea) MacIntosh and Leroy (Eleanor) MacIntosh; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Cecilia Baillie. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home. There will be no visitation at her request. Born in New Waterford, N.S., to the late John A. and Blanche (Cropley) Redmond, Hazel moved to Sydney with her family in her early childhood. Graduating from Sydney Academy and Nova Scotia Normal College, as well as studying at Saint Francis Xavier University, Sydney Campus. Hazel led an active and full life in Sydney, and upon her marriage, moved to Horne's Road, Mira, where she continued to participate in community activities including, Women's Institute and Canadian Red Cross. A dedicated educator, Hazel was a classroom teacher, administrator, and teacher trainer and served in schools in Mira Gut, Round Island, Sydney, Mira Ferry, retiring from Malcolm Munroe Junior High School, Sydney River. Hazel played an active role in HW Phillips & Son Ltd., carrying on the Redmond family tradition of bookkeeping. Predeceased by her husband, Harold W. Phillips; brother, Frank Redmond, and her parents, Hazel is survived by her daughter, Shirley (John) MacLeod; son, Harold R. (Mary Ferguson) Phillips; brother, Henry (Leona) Redmond; grandchildren, Rob (Brenda) MacLeod, Calum (Bev) MacLeod, Rod (Suzan) MacLeod and Charles Phillips; great-grandchildren, Ian, Kyle, Michael, Hayley and Logan MacLeod, and several nieces and nephews. His strong faith was his guide in life. He was a good friend to his friends and neighbours, the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather in the world. Dad was a lifelong blood donor and supportive of other charitable organizations. Seven-month-old Noah knew the love of family, extended family and a host of kind and caring friends. Noah loved laughter and the company of his brown bear 'Nelson' and friend Nemo. He shared hugs, kisses and smiles that will be remembered forever. Kay was a faithful member of Trinity Anglican Church and co-owner of Goodwin nurseries for 40 years. In her youth, she was active in the AYPA, where she met Angus, the love of her life. Family was the focus of Kay's life. She may have been tiny in stature, but she had the biggest, warmest and kindest heart with room for everyone. Kay had an open and welcoming home that was always full of love and wonderful treats. You never left her kitchen with empty hands or tummy. He is survived by his sisters Mary Murphy and Kay Patribny. He is predeceased by his son Donald (1958) and one granddaughter Danielle MacDougall.
