She was born at Fox Island, Nfld. to the late Arthur and Minnie Coley and she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Esther is survived by her son, Stuart Young; daughters, Evelyn (Kevin) Donovan, Minnie (Brian) MacLeod; grandchildren, Donna, Daniel, Melissa, Brian, Tyler, Ashley, Kayla and one great-grandchild, Cameron, who was the apple of her eye. She is also survived by her one sister-in-law, Rita Bussey as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Young; second husband, Roy Bussey; sons, Gilbert Young, George Bussey; daughter-in-law, Florence Young,; sister, Emily Carter; brothers, George and Ivan Coley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ernest (Ruth) Bussey, Gordon (Eileen) Bussey, Everett Bussey. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 1, 2011 at St. Bartholomew's Church, Louisbourg from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 at St. Bartholomew's Church, Louisbourg with Rev. Funeral arrangements are under the direction ofŠ ************************************ Charlotte MacIsaac Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 27/04/2011 It's is with heavy hearts, that we, the family, announce the passing of Charlotte MacIsaac of Steele's Hill, Glace Bay on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Charlotte was the daughter of the late Thomas and Victoria (Stewart) MacDonald. She enjoyed playing darts with the Reserve Mines Pensioners Dart League and bowling with the Seniors Knox Bowling League. Charlotte cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved gardening; it brought her both pleasure and peace of mind. Charlotte is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Leland) Jessome, Beverly (Michael) Currie, Kathy (Richard) Spear and sons, John (Mary) MacIsaac, Greg (Karen) MacIsaac. Also surviving are sisters, Theresa, Viola, Alice, Dora; a brother, Gus MacDonald; special nieces, Marilyn McInnis, Georgina MacDonald, Alice Shaubel; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Charlotte was predeceased by her husband, Vincent MacIsaac in 1997; son, Gary; four sisters and three brothers. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. Webster, 92, of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney on April 28, 2011 at Harbourstone. Born in Milford Bay, Ont., she was a daughter of the late William and Mary (Sayer) Clark. Kathleen was a post mistress in Milford Bay, Ont., for several years. She was a social person and this job enabled her to meet and develop friendships with those she saw daily. In earlier years, she was a member of St. Mark's Anglican Church and the Eastern Star in Milford Bay. Kathleen also enjoyed knitting and doing puzzles. Surviving are son, Doug (Betty), Ontario; daughters, Nancy Harris, Kelowna, B.C., Mary Ann (Sen) White, Sydney; grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Tammy and Rhonda Harris, Kevin (Rosie) White, Karen (Chris) Melski, Kim White; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Cassidy. Kathleen was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, Kathleen was predeceased by her husband, Pat Webster; brothers, Dave (Pearl), Art (Audrey), Bob (Mary), Colan; sisters, Vera (Wib), Dorie (Jimmie), Jen (Jack), Alice (Levi); son-in-law, Ron Harris. The family would like to thank all the staff at Fisherman's Cove, Harbourstone EnhancedCare, for all their care and support ************************************** Wallace MacRae Born In: Middle River, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Middle River, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 28/04/2011 Wallace John MacRae, 81, Middle River, Victoria County, died April 28, 2011, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Middle River, the son of the late Margaret (MacRae) MacPherson of Middle River. He was a member and elder of Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middle River. He was a member of the choir, served on the board of managers and was Sunday school superintendent for a number of years. He also represented the congregation at Presbytery for two years. He attended the Provincial Normal College, graduating in 1952, he taught in various Cape Breton, Eastern Nova Scotia and Central Nova Scotia schools for 35 years, retiring in 1982 in Central Colchester Junior High School, where he taught for 12 years. During his teaching career he was an active member of the NSTU. Upon retiring he returned to Middle River, where he resided and became very active in the community. He was an active member of the Middle River Historical Society and held the position of treasurer for that organization for several years. He served on the board of directors of the Victoria Farmers Co-operative and on the board of directors of the Middle River Recreation Association. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. He was also an active member of the alumni of the Nova Scotia Teachers College, serving as treasurer for a number of years. He was a life member of the Colchester Historical Society. He is survived by a number of cousins. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Dan MacPherson and his grandparents as well as uncle, George MacRae and aunt, Annie Mae MacKenzie. The body is resting at MacAskill Funeral Home, Sunday, May 1, 2011, with visiting hours 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 2, 2011, at Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Arrangements under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck. *************************************** Joseph 'Joe' MacDougall Born In: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 27/04/2011 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Joseph MacDougall Sr., on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Alex Rory and Christina (MacDonald) MacDougall. He was a member of St. Pius X parish in Sydney Mines. Joe was a coal miner for 37 years, working at the Princess Colliery and the Prince Mine. He retired in 1991. Joe was a handyman and loved to fix vehicles. He had such patience, especially with his grandchildren. He was a practical joker and welcomed everyone he met with a smile and a finger shake. Joe is survived by his three sons; Joey and Lorne (Lila), both of Sydney Mines, Kevin (Stewart), Ontario, and his daughter, Lisa (Stephen) Doucette, Ingonish Beach. He was a very special grandfather to six grandchildren, whom he adored, Holly (Rod) Parr, New Glasgow, Grant (Danielle) Donovan, Dartmouth, Lachlan Doucette, Ingonish Beach, Lorne Jr. (Danielle) MacDougall, Dartmouth, Lloyd (Holly) MacDougall, Sydney Mines, Jennifer MacDougall, Sydney Mines. He also had 13 great-grandchildren, Marissa (Marcus), Farrah, Lauren, Yvonne, Grace, Sophie, Sean, Gabrielle, Isaiah, Jordan, Jaden, Felicity and Dominic. Joe is also survived by his sister Jenny (Gordon Webb), Arkansas; brother, Kenny, Sydney Mines; many nieces and nephews and his special kitty, 'Mocha'. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lillian Grace (Gale); daughter, Genevieve; brothers, Alec, Donald, Dan, Roddie; nephew, Frankie; sisters, Sarah O'Quinn, Elizabeth Jessome, Annie Mae Peck and Maggie Hall. The family wishes to thank his son, Joey, who took great care of 'Da', and devoted his life to being with him after 'Ma's' passing. Recently, "Grampy" lived with his granddaughter, Holly and her family in New Glasgow. Joey and her family made great sacrifices to make sure he had the best care possible. We are forever grateful. Born in Main-a-Dieu, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Ida (MacGillivary) Willett. Alice was the beloved wife of Harold Langley for 55 wonderful years. Alice is survived by her daughters, Shirley Robinson, North Sydney and Sandra (Tom) Burchill, Victoria, B.C.; along with 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Clarice Golbeck and brother, David Willett; daughters-in-law, Sadie and Faye Langley; sisters-in-law, Audrey Langley and Evelyn Willett; brother-in-law, Ed MacAulay; several nieces and nephews. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca. ***************************************** Joseph MacLellan Born In: River Ryan, Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 21/07/1969 Passed Away In: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Passed Away On: 18/04/2011 It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Joe at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa on April 18, 2011. He is survived by his father, Bill MacLellan, River Ryan; sisters, Anita MacLellan, Fredericton, and Charlene Cameron, Toronto; brother, Charlie (Peggy) MacLellan, Lingan. Joe is also survived by nieces, Jennifer Brewer, Toronto, Anne Louise MacLellan, Sydney, Meaghan MacLellan, Calgary, Jessica Cameron, London, Ont. and nephew, Jaime Brewer, Fredericton. He was predeceased by his mother, Louise 'Tuddie' MacLellan in October, 2010. Joe entered the world the same night as Neil Armstrong walked on the moon (July 21, 1969) giving him a historical reference point that few people enjoyed. He graduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS) in 1995 with a Bachelor of Computer Science and worked for several companies over the last 16 years in Ontario including Nortel and Entrust. He was presently employed with The Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC) in Ottawa as a systems architect. Computers were his passion and career but Joe had many varied interests including movies, science fiction, and sports like hockey and golf but he especially liked to fish as a boy and carried that love with him all his life. He was an avid supporter and season ticket holder of the Ottawa Senators and his house was littered with Senator's jerseys and souvenirs. Joe never forgot where he came from and he wore so many Cape Breton shirts, hats, and jackets, that his co-workers used to refer to him as the Billboard from Cape Breton. He came home every year at Christmas and vacation to visit his parents. He was a caring and gentle soul who was generous to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know him. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass of celebration will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating, interment will take place in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, a reception will be held in Joe's honor immediately following at the KOC Hall, 3226 Plummer Ave., all are welcome. Refreshments will be served following the service in the reception area ******************************************* Herbert Bonness Chisholm - Born June 7, 1926 in Chelsea, MASS, and grew up in Somerville. Preceded in death by wife of 58 years, Norma S. Carvey and brother, Alvah Chisholm. Survived by brothers, John and Roy, and sons, Carey and Todd and daughter, Sara. Herb graduated from Somerville High School in 1944 and entered the naval air force. He graduated from Williams College in 1948, where he served as the captain of the cross-country team, then attained a MA in history from Boston University (1950). From 1951-1960, he worked in Naval Facilities Management and from 1962-1981, for NASA, retiring asa chief of resources management of the astrophysics program. He retired from the Naval Reserves as a commander in 1980. Herb rediscovered long distance running in the 1970's, and completed in over 20 marathons with multiple sub 2:40 efforts. He was a nationally ranked masters distance runner for over 20 years until an injury ended this hobby. He and Norma then became avid square dancers and he continued to organize dances until his death. His other two passions included hunting & fishing and sing-alongs. Herb loved his summer residence in Cape Breton, NS. Born in River Ryan on May 28, 1944, where he lived his entire life, he was a son of the late Joseph and Veronica (MacPhee) Lee. Papa is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 43 years, Anita (Feit), sons, Ricky, Joe and Manning, daughter, Veronica Murray and her husband, Blair. He will be greatly missed by the grandchildren he adored, Devon, Joshua, Shannon, Taylor, Kate, Molly and Libby, Christopher and Abbey-Lynn, also surviving are sisters, Tootsie (Charles) MacLeod, Josephine (Allan) Borgal, Marcella (late Thom) Bosse, Sharon (Tommy) DeGiobbi. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Veronica (MacPhee) Lee, sister, Barbara and beautiful infant granddaughter, Holly Lee-Ann Murray. Roddie was a member of the former St. Michael's Parish and Men's Club. He loved being in his yard doing various chores. Our "Papa" worked in the coal mine until an injury forced his retirement. He spent several years of his life as president of the Injured Workers Association of Cape Breton, where he worked tirelessly on behalf of those who needed his help. He also served as a sub district four board members for the UMW. To honour his wishes, our Papa will be cremated and his remains spread where he wanted to be. There will be no visitation.
