Mary 'Mae' Daigle Pearl McDonald Annie Mae Poirier Philip Evans John James Young ******************************************************************************************************* Mary 'Mae' Daigle Born In: Canada Born On: 29/12/1922 Passed Away In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 06/04/2011 Yesterday, April 5, 2011, we celebrated the life and death of Mae (Mary) Daigle, Glace Bay, who was born on Dec. 29, 1922. Mom is survived and sadly missed by sons, Russell (Joan), Margaree, John, Glace Bay, Ron (Cynthia), Winnipeg, Harold (Terry), Glace Bay, Richard (Violet), Glace Bay, Gerard (Moria), Oshawa, Eddie (Zilla), Port Morien; and daughters, Pearl (Jimmy McCarthy), Glace Bay, Mary (Kevin Pembroke), Mira, Theresa (Jimmy Callaghan) and grandchildren, Mark, Jamie and Matthew Callaghan, with whom she resided. Mae is also survived by her brother, Gerard (Frances), Amherst; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. All Mae's grandchildren were special, but she always had a special love and devotion for Roddie, who showed her love, conquers all. Mae was predeceased by her husband, Cliff, parents, Jim and Sis Haley, brothers, Eddie, Beau, Tom and a sister, Annie Irene in infancy. She was also predeceased by daughter-in-law, Kerry, grandson, Freddie and great-grandson, Stephen. Mae loved to walk, play the piano, chat with her family and friends on the computer and always enjoyed exercising, talking diets and looking for "just a little chip" of anything. No matter what the situation, mom found some humour, raising 10 children on her own; she was not only their inspiration but friend and hero. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone, is Friday morning, 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church. Cremation to follow, interment at a later date in the parish cemetery. Reception to be held in the church foyer. As an expression of sympathy for Mae, memorial donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ********************************* Pearl McDonald Born In: Lamaline, Newfoundland, Canada Born On: 03/05/1926 Passed Away In: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 04/04/2011 It is with an aching in our hearts and an everlasting love that we the family of Pearl (Hillier) McDonald, of Emerald Street, North Sydney, announce her passing at the Northside General Hospital, on Monday, April 4, 2011. A loving Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Pearl was born in Lamaline, Nfld. on May 3, 1926. She, along with her parents and siblings emigrated to North Sydney in 1927. Pearl was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lucy (Crews) Hillier. She was a homemaker at heart and prior to her illness took great pride in her home and in providing a hot meal on the table for her family and anyone else who needed a good home-cooked meal. Her door was always open to the neighborhood kids who seized every opportunity to share a meal with her children. She was an inspiration to her family; strong, courageous, and the rock that we all leaned on. She had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. We will always remember her silliness and her laughter. Pearl is survived by her loving children: Paula, Paulette, and Sheri (Leo) at home, who devoted the past few years of their lives to Mom's full-time care; Amelia (Dougie) Chisholm, Sydney Mines; Lucy (Kevin) Miller, Big Bras d'Or; Doug (Donna), North Sydney; Colin (Jane) Cleveland, NS; Pat, Florence; Sandy (Linda) Port Hawkesbury; Blair (Romaine) Sydney Mines; daughters-in-law, Debbie, North Sydney and Shirley McDonald, Millville; son-in-law, Rick Simm, Florence; special grand-daughter, Emily, at home; sisters, Mary (Mim) Bragg, Lyn (Bob) Ballam, Sharon (Hector) Lantz, all of North Sydney, Lillian (Bob) Dolomont, Aylesford, NS; brothers, Howard 'Nipper' (Betty), Ernie (Betty), Joe (Pearl) all of North Sydney, Alex (Millie), Big Bras d'Or; grandchildren, Kim, Kent, Aimee, Stacey, Krista, Rick, Joey, Lisa, Tara, Colin, Rhonda, R.P., Mark, Kelsey, Tanya, Meagan, Allison, Stephen, Jordan and Emily; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, who celebrated 75 years of marriage in 1995, prior to her Mother's death in 1996, followed by her father's death in 1998. She was also predeceased by her loving daughter, Dale (Rick) Simm in 2001; her sons, David (Debbie) in 1995; John in 1964; also by sisters, Cora in infancy, Meta (Maurice) Casey, Daisy (Eddie Noble) (Jimmy Donovan); brothers, Clyde and Maurice in infancy; special nephew, Erin Ballam and his foster brother Robert who died tragically in 1989. In following her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Joseph Church, Archibald Ave., North Sydney, on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial to take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Mom's life, to be held in the basement of St. Joseph Church, immediately following the mass. Online condolences may be sent to www.pierfuneralhome.com. ************************************ Philip Evans Born In: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 28/03/2011 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, brother and friend, Phil Evans on Monday, March 28, 2011. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Llewellyn 'Lew' and Lena Evans. In his younger years Phil worked with C.N. Marine, later with Allen Ice Co. in North Sydney and until the time of his death, he was a Parks attendant with Natural Resources. He loved to spend time in the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, fly tier, hunter and trapper, and a proud member of the North Sydney Wildlife Association. He enjoyed fishing the Margaree River and cooking whatever his catch of the day was. Phil had a great sense of humour and his laugh seemed larger than life. He is survived by Joan Evans, mother of his daughter, Jennifer (John Donovan) and his son, John (Alisha Devoe), both of North Sydney; his four grandchildren, Hunter, Jersey, Brianna, Brady and by his siblings, Brent (June) of Point Aconi, Patsy, Georges River, Beth (Denise) of Yarmouth, Vivian (Colin) of Margaree Valley, Harvey (Kathy) of North Sydney; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Phil was predeceased by his brother, David. Visitation for Phil will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser officiating.
