(Julie) Guam Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 13/04/2011 With heavy hearts we regret to announce the passing of our mother, Julia G. (Julie) Gaum, at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on April 13, 2011, following a lengthy illness and hospitalization. Born in Sydney, she was the eldest daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Buell) Cahill. In death as in life, she will be together always with her beloved husband Harry, who passed away in 2004. She was also predeceased by her brother, William Cahill and her sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Maurice Sampson. For nearly 30 years, Julie and Harry were equal partners in the family business, Harry Gaum Distributors Ltd., delivering Esso Home Heating products in the greater Sydney area. Julie was a member of St. Joseph's parish and a member of St. Joseph's parish CWL. As a former hair stylist, Mom took great pride in her appearance over the years, ensuring a youthful look always. Very much an advocate of healthy lifestyles, she exercised on a regular basis, walking almost daily to town and faithfully practising her yoga until she became ill. Meal planning for her family was of utmost importance to her and in later years she thoroughly enjoyed dining out at various local restaurants with her son, Gerald. She so enjoyed her annual vacations with her family and friends to "The Old Home Week" celebrations in Charlottetown, P.E.I. and to the Truro Exhibition. She loved her home and her gardens and both were looked after with tender loving care. An avid supporter of local craft shows, she loved to purchase hand made treats and send loving packages to her three adorable granddaughters whom she was so proud of. She is lovingly remembered and survived by her son, Gerald of Sydney and her son, Bruce, his wife Alexis and their three adoring daughters, Samantha, Ali and Hannah, all of Toronto, Ont. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Cahill, Kingston, Ont.; numerous loving nephews and nieces. At the family's request there is no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 16th., 2011 at St. Joseph Parish, Cabot St., Sydney, at 10:00 a.m. with Father Conrad Edwards officiating.
