(Wishie) MacNeil Herbert Bonness Chisholm ******************************************************************************************************* Cassie Campbell Born In: Oban, St. Peter, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 27/04/2011 It is with deep sadness that we, the family announce the sudden passing of Cassie Campbell at home on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Born in Oban, St. Peter's, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Lizza (MacIntosh) MacDonald. She enjoyed baking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her especially her cat, Minnie. Cassie is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Carmella MacDonald; five granddaughters, Candace, Robyn, Sarah, Samantha and Sabrina; four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Neil MacDonald, sister-in-law, Elizabeth MacDonald; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Hughie (Anna) and John Dan MacDonald. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will take place Friday, May 6, 2011, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow. Beloved wife of John Lucyk for 27 years. Loving mother of Kyle. Dear daughter of Sarah Belle (MacLean) and the late James Stewart. Will be greatly missed by her sisters, Linda (Rodger) MacLeod, Brenda (Doug), Wendy (Ian) and Karen Stewart. Daughter-in-law of Lena Lucyk and the late William Lucyk and sister-in-law of Danny, Bill and Terry and their families. Born in Seal Harbour, Guysborough County. He was a veteran of Second World War, serving overseas. Online condolences may be sent to our web page at www.chantfuneralhome.com. *************************************** Roger Deveau Born In: Cheticamp, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 26/04/2011 Roger Daniel Deveau, 70 of Cheticamp, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Cheticamp, he was the son of the late Henry and Marie Therese (Cormier) Deveau. Roger was a member of International Brotherhood of Boilermakers local for 48 years (as a welder and instructor). He was co-owner of the former Industrial Welding Ltd. Roger was also a founding member of Cabot Trail Arena and a NIRCA board member. His hobbies included golfing, hockey, hunting, fourwheeling and motorcycling. He was well liked among his co-workers, friends and family. Roger will be sadly missed by his best friend and brother, Raymond. Roger is survived by his wife, Hughena (MacKinnon) Deveau; children, Lise (Bruno) Gaudent, Cheticamp, Maurice (Julie) Deveau, Chatham, Ont., Michelle (Jules) Chiasson, Cheticamp, Roger 'JR' Deveau, Sydney; grandchildren, Jeannot, Mario Chiasson; stepchildren, Jimmy (Monica) Jeffers, Sydney, Mary Noelle Skelly, Toronto, Sandy Jeffers, Sydney; step-grandchildren, Amanda, Ashley, Amy, James, Alexander, Brianna, Kaitlyn; one brother, Raymond (Beatrice) Deveau, Cheticamp; three sisters, Patricia Chiasson, Jeanne (Arthur) Williams, both of Mississauga, Ont. and Diane Deveau, Toronto. Born in Winnipeg, Man., she was the daughter of the late John and Alice (Noyles) Andrews. Roberta was a marvelous quilter, who also loved bowling and playing cards. She worked at Zellers and also as a governement office worker. She is survived by her son, Robert, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, James (1997); brothers, Lionel and Kenneth and sister, Gladys. There be no visitation, a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Online condolences to www.twcurry.com. ******************************************* Donald John, BA, CLU, LL.D (Hon) MacLean Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 30/03/1922 Passed Away In: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Passed Away On: 24/04/2011 Don passed away after a short illness April 24, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at North York General Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, N.S., March 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Donald John (Danny) MacLean and Edith Grant MacLean. He is survived by his much loved and devoted wife of 57 years, Suzanne (Somerville) and three adored daughters, Heather (Jim Appleton), Marg (Brian Carlson) and Allison (Stewart Morrison). He is also survived by his seven grandchildren that he loved dearly, Ian (Katie), Sarah and Rebecca Appleton, Connor and Emily Smith, Cameron and Spencer Morrison. He was patiently awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild in June. He is survived by his brothers and sisters in-law, Drs Glasier and Jo Somerville, Jan and Rod Ainsworth, and four nieces and ten nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Grant and Roy MacLean, and sister Jean MacDonald. After completing his high school education in June of 1940, he joined the Canadian Army and for the next five and a half years served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe. He attended Mount Allison University where he was an honour student and an outstanding athlete, excelling in hockey, football and track and field. In 1949, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. Upon graduation he joined the Prudential Assurance Company of England in Montreal and moved to Toronto shortly after. In 1954, he became a Chartered Life Underwriter. Don was awarded the John A. Tory Gold Medal for having secured the highest marks in all of Canada. He was a life member of the Million Dollar Round Table and held many offices including the National President of the Life Underwriters of Canada. In 1976, Don was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Lottery Corporation and also served as the Chairman. His other interests led him to serve in such positions as a Trustee at the Art Gallery of Ontario and St. John's United Church. His passion for politics led him to join the Albany Club in his first year in Toronto and he served on the Board for many years and was the club's President for two years. He was actively involved with the Conservative party since his university days, where he served as Prime Minister of mock parliament. He was elected a member of the Board of Directors of Mount Allison Federated Alumni and served as its President. Don was very active member of the Mount Allison Board of Regents and became chairman of the board in 1982. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Mt. Allison in May 1986. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to St. John's United Church or the Palliative Care Unit of the North York General Hospital. **************************************** John A. (Wishie) MacNeil Born In: Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Passed Away On: 16/11/2010 Joseph A. MacNeil (Wishie), 76, died peacefully Nov. 16, 2010, in Vancouver, B.C. Born in Reserve Mines, he was the grandson of the late Michael and Margaret MacNeil, 793 Neville St. He is survived by many relatives and friends in Cape Breton, Ontario and British Columbia. He was predeceased by his mother Christine Russell, Aunt Rhea MacNeil and brother Leo MacNeil. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines, Saturday, April 30 at 10 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall. Sleep peacefully Wishie. ***************************************** Herbert Bonness Chisholm Born In: Chelsea, Massachusetts, United States Born On: 07/06/1926 Herbert Bonness Chisholm. Born June 7 1926 in Chelsea, MA and grew up in Somerville. Preceded in death by wife of 58 years, Norma S. Carey and brother Alvah Chisholm. Survived by brothers, John and Roy; sons, Carey and Todd and daughter, Sara. Herb graduated from Somerville High School in 1944 and entered the naval air force. He graduated from Williams College in 1948, where he served as the captain of the cross country team, then attained a MA in History from Boston University (1950). From 1951-60 he worked in Naval Facilities Management,& from 1962-1981 for NASA, retiring as Chief of Resources Management of the Astrophysics Program. He retired from the Naval Reserves as a commander in 1980. Herb rediscovered long distance running in the 1970s and completed over 20 marathons with multiple sub 2:40 efforts. He was a nationally ranked masters distance runner for over 20 years until an injury ended this hobby. He and Norma then became avid square dancers and he continued to organize dances until his death. His other two passions included hunting/fishing and sing alongs. Herb loved his summer residence in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
