Born in Sydney, she grew up in South Bar, the daughter of Claude and Edie (Hill) Huntley. She attended South Bar School and graduated from Riverview High in 1968. Following graduation Joanne attended NSTC from '68-'70. She was a teacher at South Bar School for 30 years and retired from Harbourview Elementary, as a reading recovery teacher in 2005. Joanne was active in the Nova Scotia Teachers Union for many years both locally and provincially. She was a member of Trinity United Church in Whitney Pier and served on many committees there as well. She loved the outdoors, swimming, camping and spending many happy times on the "North Shore", the home community of her husband, father, and many good friends. She is survived by her husband, Charles; son, James Andrew (Deanna) and grandchildren, Morgan and Jimmy, the pride of her life, Sydney and Peter Hugh, Yamato City, Japan. Sisters, Susan (Ken) Latham, Herring Cove, N.S., Patti (Brian) Murray, Calgary. Nieces, Laura, Herring Cove and Nicole Latham Calgary, Kristen (Dean) Dockerill and great-nephew, Colby, Calgary, as well as many other relatives and good friends. Joanne was predeceased by her mother, Edith; father-in-law, Murdoch MacInnis; cousin, Peggy and dogs, Pepper, Scooter and Baillie. There will be visitation on Thursday, April 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will take place Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Dianne Kempt DLM and Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating. Any acts of remembrance can be made to the SPCA, Trinity United Church or the Arthritis Society of Canada. Best friend and loving husband of 49 years to Mary (Pynn). Loving father of Cheryl Ross (John) and Robert (Julie). He will be sadly missed by his most precious granddaughters Amanda and Jennifer Kelly; sisters Harriet, Carol and brother Rick; special nephew John Marsh Jr. (Cherie); niece Charlotte Boudreau (Fred); brother-in-law John Marsh (Doreen); sister-in-law Betty Bennett and Ruth Madden (Bren) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father William; mother Hilda; stepfather Fred Stewart; brother Charlie, brother Cyril; sister Dolena, sister-in-law Madeleine Marsh, and in laws Archie Pynn and Jane Pynn. He will be especially missed by best friend Eddy Phillipo (Helena). Mel was employed for many years in the heating business (owner of Mel Kelly Heating). He was in the Black Watch and a member of BR: 163 Legion, and an avid Leafs fan. At Mel's request, cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the M.A. Clark & Sons Funeral Home (567 Upper Wellington St., Hamilton). Family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton General Hospital Heart Unit would be greatly appreciated by the family. ********************************* Pauline 'Faye' Daix Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 03/04/2011 It is with sad hearts that we the family of Pauline 'Faye' Daix, announce that she passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011. Pauline was the daughter of the late Albert 'Brickie' and Abby Jane 'Jennie' (Timmons) Demeyere. Born in Glace Bay and raised in Dominion, Pauline spent her younger years working alongside her father and brothers in the family construction business. She was a natural leader and loved the outdoors, spending her spare time swimming, fishing, dancing and singing. Pauline was married in 1950 to her husband of 59 years, Frank, and together they raised their family in "14 yard" in New Waterford. Pauline enjoyed planting flowers, cooking for family gatherings, enjoying a good cup of tea and reading. Pauline's zealous, determined and inquisitive personality sparked in her desire to get to know her creator, Jehovah God from youth on into her old age. This led her to a lifelong career in sharing bible truths with others. Her happiest moments were when she was preaching the 'Good News." She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Glace Bay and New Waterford for 53 years and cherished her privilege of talking about Jehovah's promises for the future. She put her trust in them which was a real strength for her especially in later years. (Isaiah 32:24) And no resident will say, "I am sick"... Pauline held fast to her hope right to the end and passed away knowing that she had made a wonderful name with God and was safe now in his memory. Pauline was known to her family as 'Ma', 'Nanny' or 'Faye' and loved each one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and friends immensely. She awaited the time when she could be with them under better conditions through the resurrection hope of life on a paradise earth. (Job 14:14,15) "You will call..and I myself will answer you. For the work of your hands you have a yearning". She is survived by her children Mary (Bo) LeBlanc, Marcella (Mike) Bennett, Sandra (Myran) MacNeil, Velvet Scott, Frank Jr. (Dorothy), Gus (Carmen) and Daniel (Marjorie). Sisters Marcella, Belgium, Theresa 'Billie', Mary 'Sidie', Lucy, Simone, Adeline, Joanie, Brenda and brothers Albert 'Brickie' and Jimmy. Grandchildren Mark, Michael, Tammy, Frankie, David, Matthew, Josh, Daniel, Richard, Jason, Karlene, and Eugenia. Great-grandchildren Brandon, Felicia, Ryan, Mitchell, Keith, Kelsea, Dax, Kale, Reid and Grayson. Besides her husband Frank, Pauline was also predeceased by her daughter Emily; brothers Clary and Charlie, four sons in infancy and son-in-law Wayne Scott. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Reserve St., Glace Bay. She was 93. She was predeceased by her husband, Victor, daughter, Lucy (E. McMinn) and sister, Gladys (P. Muise). She is sadly missed by her twin sister, Ardua (J. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of... ********************************* John Young Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Don Mills, Ontario, Canada Passed Away On: 22/04/2011 John James 'Jimmy' Young of Don Mills, Ont., formerly of 39 Broadway, Sydney, passed away Jan. 22, 2011. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late William 'Bully' and Florence (Kennedy) Young. He is survived by his only brother, Ronald of Halifax. Also surviving are several cousins in Cape Breton and Newfoundland. He was predeceased by his wife of 34 years, Eileen (Liebel) Young in June 2010. Jimmy worked for the City of Toronto, until 2008, which he took early retirement to care for his ailing wife. He was a devoted husband and compassionate individual who gave his time and money to help those in need. Jimmy loved music and he spent many happy hours playing his guitar, while Eileen accompanied him on piano. A service was held in Jim's memory on March 11, 2011 in Don Mills, interment at Pine Hills Cemetery, Ontario.
