She was the daughter of the late Joe and Lucy (Murphy) Brown, and the wife of the late Maurice Popwell. Vivian retired in 1967 from many years of employment at the Sydney airport. She was well known for her great sense of humour and kindness. Vivian loved life to the fullest. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. Her favourite pastimes were dancing, baking, playing bingo and crib. Vivian is survived by six children, Bobby (Myrna), CheChe (the late Frank) McPhee, Doreen (Rudy) MacDougall, Lucy Gregor (John D.), Willie (Claudine), Craig (Pat); 14 grandchildren, Bobby, Rhonda, Lisa, Tanya, Cheryl, Sonny, Kelly, Tammy, Debby, Shayne, Troy, Krista, Charlene, Darlene; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Also left to mourn are sisters, Mabel (Ron Dalton) and Maurina MacDonald. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by seven brothers, two sisters, and a daughter-in-law. Vivian was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother as well as a remarkable friend. She was loved and cherished by all and will be deeply missed. Visitation will take place at Curry's Funeral Home, Glace Bay, today (Monday, April 25) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Holy Family Church, MacKay's Corner, Tuesday, April 26 at 10 a.m. with Fr. He was a son of the late Joseph and (Loretta MacLean) Chiasson. Bryan was employed many years in the trucking industry and more recently had been employed with Laurentian Energy. As a person who enjoyed most sports, he fondly recalled his coaching days with Little League baseball. He is survived by his wife, the former Jane Finlayson; and a son, Steven, at home; also a sister, Shirley (Joe) Murray, Reserve Mines. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Simon and Russell. Bryan's wishes were, that cremation take place and there will not be any visitation or service. Gerard was an honorable and loving man known to all of us a - husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Catherine (Mac Farlane) Mac Kenzie and the late Francis Mac Kenzie. Memories of Gerard will be forever cherished by his wife and best friend of 22 years Mary Elaine (Mac Neil); and their two children of whom he was so proud, his 'princess' Breanne and 'his boy'- his son Christopher, both at home. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph, Hector (Meryl); sisters, Anne (Elmer) Syms and Mary (Peter) Bren; and sister-in-law, Lorene Mac Kenzie. Also left to mourn are his mother-in-law, Mary Mac Neil; brothers-in-law, Adrian (Bell), Paul, Sydney, and Kevin and sister-in-law, Sheila (Doug) Nicholson, Alberta. Gerard is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. Gerard was predeceased by his father, Francis Mac Kenzie, brother, Robert (Bob) Mac Kenzie, and father-in-law, Reginald Mac Neil. Gerard graduated from Sydney Academy, St. Francis Xavier University, and the University of New Brunswick from which he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1987. Gerard began his practice with David L. Parsons Law Inc. where he remained until opening his own practice in November of 2009. Gerard, an unassuming man, will always be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humour, integrity, and his loyalty to friends and his devotion to family. Gerard was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary/St. Joseph's parish and served on various councils and on numerous boards within his community. Besides being an exceptional lawyer, Gerard took great pleasure in bringing family and friends together for his favourite holidays - Christmas and Easter. He always made sure, while playing Santa at his famous Christmas parties, that there was a gift for everyone. The "big guy" will be missed by all who loved him - family, longtime friends, clients, and colleagues. Visitation for Gerard will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 26 at T.W. Born March 10, 1927, in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Slamco) Carroll, and was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Church, Glace Bay. In Francie's earlier years she enjoyed spending the summers with her family at her summer home on Trout Brook Road, Mira. Francie always opened her home and her heart to visitors, always telling a story or joke. She especially enjoyed the lunch time visits of children and looked forward to the noon visits from students across the street who attended St. Michael Jr High School. Francie was a fun 'Grand Ma' who enjoyed playing Nintendo trying to save the 'Princess' and setting Tetris records. She and Bill were loyal hockey fans attending their grandson Jordan's minor hockey games and tournaments. Francie also loved to bowl with the afternoon ladies league and to crochet, with many of her works of art still being admired and enjoyed. She was also known for her sense of humour, often being the life of the party at any social gathering. Francie is survived by her son-in-law, Leonard 'Len' MacDonald; grandchildren, Jennifer (Simon) and Jordan Evasuk-MacDonald (Tiffany); great-grandchildren, Ethan and Stephen Curran; sister, Helen Cruickshank; sisters-in-law, Helen (Zsolt) Molnar, Carmel Evasuk; brother-in-law, Steve Markiw; nephews, Darrell (Marion) and John (Sylvie) Evasuk, Billy (Myra) Marchysen; nieces Elaine (Greg) Hines, Debbie (George) Cameron, Jeannie (Al) Durand, Arlene Marchysen; grandnieces and nephews; cousins and a longtime special friend, Joann Andrecyk.
