There is a section on the Griffins on p.51 of the book "Cape North and Vicinity". The Allisons appear on p.37 of the same volume. In the 1901 census the Allisons are reported as Ellisons. (N.B. I have a piper friend named Wally Ellison who was born in Margaree.) The Catherine Griffin, widow in Margaree in 1858, mentioned by Carol was born Catherine Cameron, daughter of Archibald Cameron of Barra and Mary Cameron of Strathglass. See MacDougall's "History of Inverness County", pp.410-411. She may be the widow of Daniel Griffin, who was married to a Catherine Cameron. In the 1871 census of Ingonish there is a widow, Catherine MacInnis Griffin (b.1826), widow of John? Griffin. She was a daughter of John and Catherine MacInnis of Grand Narrows. There are also in Ingonish in 1871, Michael Griffin (b. 1852) and his wife Tina Allison, d/o Peter and Christy Allison of Aspy Bay. He appears to be a son of catherine MacInnis and John? Griffin.
