Parsons ******************************************************************************************************* Marilyn Haidon Born in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Denver, Colorado, United States Passed away on: 19/10/2010 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Marilyn Haidon on Oct. 16, 2010 in Denver, Colorado. Born in New Waterford, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Florence (Rigby) Fleming. Marilyn attended Provincial Normal College and taught in New Waterford schools for three years before moving to Ontario. After her marriage to Bill, they travelled to Denver where they have made their home for over 50 years. She is survived by husband, Bill; son, Tracy; daughter, Angela (Rick) Crooks; grandchildren, Kayla (Alex), Dillon and Andrew; sister, Deanie (Art) White, Port Hawkesbury; brother, Cyril (the late Cappy) Feming, Dundas, Ont. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Mildred Walsh and Bernadette Sobol and brothers, Dennis and Thomas. Cremation has taken place with burial in Denver. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to angelasscissors@aol.com. ************************************** Charles 'Sandy' Libbus Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: River Bourgeois, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 17/10/2010 Charles 'Sandy' Herbert Libbus, 74, of River Bourgeois passed away Oct. 17, 2010 in Strait Richmond Hospital, with his loving family by his side, after a battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Charles and Violet (Babe Watkins) Libbus. He was a pipe welder and construction worker for 50 years, also a former member of the Boilmakers union, UA Pipefitters union of Antigonish (local 244) before becoming a member of local 682, UA of plumbers & fitters in Sydney for the past 35 years. Charlie was an avid hunter, fisherman and in his later years loved to bird hunt with his faithful and constant companion 'Gabby', who will miss him greatly. For the last number of years Charlie would be seen on the weekends travelling to Sydney to go "skeet shooting", a sport he loved dearly, with all of his buddies at the C.B. Trap & Skeet Club. He will be remembered by family and friends for his warm smile, easy going nature, sense of humour, for making people laugh, and for always having a joke to tell, as well as his love of children and animals. He will be sadly missed by his best friend and loving wife of 52 years, Madaline (Cook); also his five children: son, Cal, Alberta; daughters, Lavenia (Sid) Hardiman, Patricia (Rodney) Fougere, both of St. Peters, Melissa (Sandy) MacKay, Calgary and Lorena (Jason) Mann, Shubenacadie. Also by his grandchildren, Jason and Kyle Libbus, Ryan, Jeffery, Tyler and Elliott Campbell, Evan (Melissa), Erin Fougere, Duncan and Connor MacKay, Lexie, Jenna and Caelan Mann as well as great-grandson, Ian Fougere. He also leaves to mourn his brother, Roddie (Brenda) Watkins; sisters, Louise (Murray) Matheson, Esther (Alec) Tomko, Karen (Stewart) Boozan, all of Sydney; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Joe and two infant brothers. Cremation has taken place but a visitation of remembrance will be held at the River Bourgeois funeral home on Friday from 2-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at St. John the Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Everett MacDow presiding. Donations in Charlie's name may be made to the Cancer Society, Strait Richmond Palliative Care or a charity of your choice. A private interment will be at a later date. Messages to the family may be made by visiting www.greensfuneralhome.ca ********************************** Carol Cooke Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Sydney River, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 16/10/2010 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Anne Cooke of Sydney River. Carol Anne passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Nina Josephine (Lynch) Cooke. Carol Anne was a resident at the Braemore Home, Sydney River and a former resident of King Edward Street, Glace Bay. While living in Glace Bay she was a member of St. Anne's Church. In earlier years, she and her group of close friends enjoyed bowling, dancing and their numerous outings. She had a love for all types of music and enjoyed listening to the radio. Carol Anne was a very happy and likeable person with a great sense of humour. She will be sadly missed by her brothers, Billie, John A., both of Glace Bay, Patrick, James, both of Ont; sisters, Josie Cooke, Montreal, Marie Cooke Anderson, New Waterford and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by brothers, Aubrey, Paul and three siblings in infancy. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 2-4 p.m. only, with a funeral service to follow at 4 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. The family would like to express their thanks to all nurses and staff at the Braemore Home for their care and compassion given to Carol Anne during her stay at the home and also to the nursing staff at the Cape Breton Hospital especially the palliative care unit for making her final days as comfortable as possible. **************************** Brian Windeler Passed away in: Port Hastings, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 16/10/2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing on of Brian Thomas Windeler on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Brian was a wonderful, loving father to Thomas, Emily and Sophie. He passes on a love of music, the outdoors, storytelling and learning. Brian is survived by his wife, Helen (MacDonald) and parents, Betty (O'Keefe) and Bruce Windeler, Port Hawkesbury. Brian was the youngest of seven siblings, he is survived by his sisters, Dorothy (Gary) and Colleen (Shawn) both of Sydney; Charlene (Darren), Calgary; brothers, Henry (Janet), Labrador and Keith, Athabasca. Brian was predeceased by his brother, Ross and sister-in-law, Brenda. There will be no visitation. A memorial service for family and friends will be held in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. with Wayne Yorke, DLM officiating. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Dr. Margaret Johnson, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Barra Head, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Jane (Peck) Paul. Left to mourn is her only surviving sister, Caroline Gould, We'koqma'q. Also left to mourn the loss are sons, Albert Julian, Gerald Johnson, Gerard (Regina) Johnson, Thomas (Elizabeth), Derek (Sharon) and Prentice all from Eskasoni and daughters, Joan Marshall, Carol (Russell) Marshall, both from Chapel Island, Lottie Johnson, Elizabeth (Ryan) Paul, Patricia Dennis, Mary C. (Allan) Googoo, all from Eskasoni. She also had 80 grandchildren, 153 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Albert Julian and John T. Johnson. Her children, Arthur Julian, Ralph Julian and Linda Moore and her brothers, William, Teddy, Peter and John N. Paul; her sisters, Esther Johnson, Sarah Joe, Mary Googoo, Martha Lewis, Annie Tina Paul, and Bridget Ann Basque. She was an expert in basket making, bead working and sewing and taught these crafts in Eskasoni, N.S., Lennox Island, and Morell, P.E.I., Gesgapegiag, Quebec, Conne River, Nfld. and surrounding Mi'kmaq communities. She had gone to many craft shows and demonstrations that showed her crafts such as EXPO '67 and The Smithsonian Museum, Washington, DC. She even voyaged from Halifax to New York on a Tall Ship and on arrival she demonstrated her basket making. She was instrumental in keeping the Mi'kmaw culture alive by passing on Mi'kmaq traditions such as language, prayer, dance, song, and Waltes. She was a great historian and storyteller. She was the first woman band councillor in Eskasoni. She was on the Native Women Association, Eskasoni School Mi'kmaw Language Elders Committee, Homemakers Club. She worked at the Mi'kmaw Lodge until she was 93 years old. She was the "Role Model of the Year" from the Eskasoni High school during the school year 2000-01. Eskasoni Fisheries named a fishing vessel "Dr. Granny" in her honour. She received an Honorary Doctorate from St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, in 1994. She was a foster parent to many children since the 1950s and she continued to care for children up until recently. She was a nurturing mom to many. She will be greatly missed for her humour and she touched the lives of whoever met her. She will continue to be in many conversations in years to come. Our mother will rest at the Gabriel Center starting on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Fr. I'm happy to have helped everyone that I can." ************************************ Joseph Anthony Sampson Born in: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Florence, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 17/10/2010 It is with heartfelt sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of Joseph Sampson on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Florence, Joe was the son of the late James and Rose (Landry) Sampson. He was a member of St. Stephen's parish, Florence. For many years, dad was employed with Devco and after his retirement, he was employed as a bartender at the Florence Fire Hall. Dad loved his family and the simple things in life, like going for a drive or tinkering in his garage. His greatest pleasure was being with the love of his life, Mom. Dad also loved his violin and spending time with his brothers 'having a tune.' Joe is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Daryl) Rendell and their boys Matthew, Kyle and Cody; his son, Robbie (Shannon) and their son Aaron. He is also survived by his brothers, George (Donna), Big Bras d'Or, Frank (Bev), Florence, and Harold (Georgette), Big Bras d'Or; one sister, Alice (Johnny) Miles, Alberta; sister-in-law, Evelyn Sampson, Florence, and special nephew, Jackie (Janice) MacInnis, Point Aconi. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Rhobena, their son, William and daughter, Joanne and her son Brian, brothers, John, Charlie, Buddy, Billy and Thomas, sisters, Leona MacInnis, Josie MacLennan and Elmeda Simard. Visitation for Joe Sampson will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. St. Stephen's Church, Florence, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. Burial in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Florence. Parsons Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 16/10/2010 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved brother Kevin at home on Oct. 16, 2010. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph and Cecilia (Coloumbe) Parsons. In his earlier years, he was a merchant seaman and was employed by the S.I.U. (Montreal). Upon his return to Cape Breton he worked for 30 years with the Nova Scotia Commission on Drug Dependency for Addiction Services in Sydney as a counsellor attendant. He also worked at Park House and at detox until his retirement. Kevin is survived by his sisters, Annette Smith, Dartmouth, and Genevieve Parsons, Glace Bay, also numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Isabel Casey and Bertha Miller, brothers Donald and Joseph. In keeping with Kevin's wishes, there will be no visitation. A celebration of Kevin's life will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21 at St. Anthony's Church in Glace Bay. Burial in the parish cemetery. Reception to follow in the church hall.
