You could look in St George's Anglican church records. That was the first church in the Sydney area, and reported marriages other than Anglican. Just a note, The first Presbyterian church in Port Morien was much earlier than 1965. It became St. John's united church when the union came about in 1925.There could be some records that could help in their archives. -----Original Message----- From: can-ns-capebreton-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:can-ns-capebreton-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Donna Walford Sent: October 4, 2010 7:36 PM To: can-ns-capebreton@rootsweb.com Subject: [Cape Breton Co NS] Early Marriages Hi Everyone: John and Catherine are my ggrandparents and I have not been able to find a marriage certificate for them. I have 3 of the children's birth records and 2 say they were married in 1864, Cow Bay and one is 1863 or 1865 but I can't find either. 1. JOHN2 FERGUSON (NORMAN1) was born Abt. May 1835 in Scotland, and died 30 July 1920 in Glace Bay, CB, NS. He married CATHERINE MACDONALD November 1864 in Cow Bay, CB County, NS. She was born 04 December 1844 in New Boston? Cow Bay, NS, and died 06 June 1912 in Glace Bay, CB, NS. Notes for JOHN FERGUSON: Immigrated to Canada in 1840 from Scotland. I did notice there was a meeting house in Cow Bay and wonder if that is where the marriages were performed. Family was Presbyterian. Marriage Notes for JOHN FERGUSON and CATHERINE MACDONALD: Rev Hugh MacLeod of Mira was the only Presbyterian Minister in the Industrial CB area and he served 15 congregations within the bounds of the area. The first Presbyterian Church in Port Morien had their first service 24 July 1965. Notes for JOHN FERGUSON: Immigrated to Canada in 1840 from Scotland. Any help appreciated.
