Born in New Port Station, Hants County, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Daisy (Rhodnizer) Fletcher. Muriel was a member of United Baptist Church of Sydney. She was a member of the Steelworkers and Sydney Pensioners Club as well as several darts leagues and she was an avid tarabish player. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Muriel is survived by her companion and friend, Greg Chiasson; her two sons, Terry (Debbie) Boyd, Iqaluit, John (Pam) Boyd, Dartmouth; her six grandchildren, Chris, Matthew, Josh, Andrea, Karla, and Olivia; her one precious great-granddaughter, Brianna. Muriel is also survived by her sisters, Esther Fownes, Moncton, Georgie (Jack) Walsh, Berwick, Audrey (Lloyd) Lyttle, Ellershouse, Daisy Taylor, Hillsborough; brother, Elroy (Kathy) Fletcher, Amherst; sister-in-law, Kaye Boyd; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Boyd, one sister, Margie, two brothers, Earl and Laurie. Visitation will take place Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Bob Hussey officiating. Reception to follow. Interment at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to our webpage at www.chantfuneralhome.com ***************************************** Alice (White) Kiley Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 11/10/2010 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our precious mother, wife and grandmother, Alice Bennett Kiley (White), 74, of Dartmouth who left us peacefully on Oct. 11, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for a year before deciding it was her time to go Home and be with her Lord. She was an inspiration to us all for her strength and determination. Born in Glace Bay in 1936, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Gertrude (Coffin) White. Mom retired from her job as manager with Sears Canada in 1995, after 20 years, to spend more time with her family, especially her grandson DJ. She loved to play cards on weekends and gardening during the week. Along with everyone else, her family of squirrels she fed every day will miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Wilfred; sons, Gary and Joey; daughter, Darlene; son-in-law, Claude Oppedisano and her grandson, DJ who was the light of her life. Also her sisters, Marie Parent, Rose Fitzner; brothers, Garfield, Bill, Martin, Dice, George and Wilfred. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Gladys Walsh, Shirley Kuna and brother, Ronnie. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. W. Verge, the VON and palliative care for their wonderful support and compassion. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lung Association of N.S. Online condolences may be viewed or sent to www.mattatallfuneralhome.com. ********************************************* Lawrence MacInnis Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 12/10/2010 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our father, Lawrence Sylvester MacInnis, on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, surrounded by his family. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Donald John and Mary Elizabeth (MacKinnon) MacInnis. Lawrence worked for Sears Canada as service manager for more than 25 years. He was very involved in the church and a very active fundraiser both for the church and in the community. He was a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders; an original piper crossing the Canso Causeway and returning for the 50 year anniversary. He enjoyed many activities, such as fishing, boating, playing guitar and singing, bird watching, especially the eagles and visiting with his family and friends. He also loved photography and had his own developing lab in his basement at his home in Mira. He has touched and inspired many people with his strong spiritual faith and beliefs. Lawrence is survived by his sons, Bill (Barb) and Bob; his daughters, Lynda (Calvin) Eddy, Beverly (Ernest) Mugridge, Anita (Charles) Foley and Nancy MacInnis. Also surviving is one brother, Cam; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Ann; a daughter, Madeline in infancy; two sisters; eight brothers and one great-grandchild. Visitation for the late Mr. MacInnis will take place on Sunday, Oct. 17 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Mission in Marion Bridge. Interment to follow at St. Margaret's Parish Cemetery, Grand Mira South. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James Francis and Annie (MacCormick) MacNeil. Peggy was a member of St. Alphonsus Church, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. A homemaker most of her adult life, she enjoyed playing cards, sewing and reading. Surviving are daughters, Patsy (Frank) Jurcina, New Waterford, Mary (Charles) Neville, Victoria Mines, Virginia Rizzato, New Waterford; sons, Joe (Catherine), New Victoria, David (Dale), Truro, Stephen (Janice), Sydney; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild, Reid Antle. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Bernard, two daughters, Mildred Evelyn and Mildred Perpetua, two grandchildren, Allan Neville and Audrey Gillis, one brother, Joseph Francis, two sisters, Patricia White and Mary E. Bishop. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Born in Sydney, Doug was the son of the late William 'Bill' Morrison and the late AnneMarie MacInnis-Hutt. Doug took pleasure in the simpler things in life - he was an avid reader, he enjoyed watching television and could be found on the boardwalk listening to the bands. In his younger years he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. But what he truly enjoyed was spending time with family and friends. Doug is survived by his sisters, Donna Murphy (Bill), Sydney, Cathy Morrison, Calgary, and Carol (Jerry) MacNeil, Sydney; also special nephew and friend, William Joseph 'Joe' Murphy; along with many nieces; nephews and stepfather, Murray Hutt. Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by his sisters, Deborah and Patricia, and nephew, Kenneth Ranni. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Sheldon Chant officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home.
