MacLean ******************************************************************************************************* Duncan Lamont Passed away in: St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 28/09/2010 Peacefully on Sept. 28, 2010 at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 96th year. Duncan will be forever missed by his wife, Anne. Dear father of Diane Morley (Rick) and Donald Lamont (Phyllis). Brenda Foster (Al Shaw), Dan Morely, Andrea Lamont, Nicole Lamont (deceased) and Kristin Lamont, will forever cherish the memories of their dear grandpa. Duncan will be missed by his four nieces. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24 (55 years), a lifetime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 936, a veteran of the Second World War; moreover, a dedicated family man, top notch auto body man, a dependable letter carrier (15 years), a wonderful woodworker who enjoyed a good round of golf with friends. Family invites friends to Butler Funeral Home, 33 Duke St. (downtown) on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home chapel on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society, Niagara Region or the charity of one's choice would be greatly appreciated by the family. Online condolences www.butlerduke.ca. *********************************************** Robert 'Bobby' Gay Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 26/09/2010 It is with great sadness, that we, the family of Robert 'Bobby' Gay Jr., announce his passing on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010 in Ontario. Bobby was born in Glace Bay, the son of Robert Gay and the late Irene Gay. Bobby will be remembered for his great talent as a guitar player and singer and his love of putting together model planes, boats and cars. He will be sadly missed by his children Kimberly, David and Bobby Jr., all of Ontario; His father, Bob; three brothers, Jerry and Sheldon, Glace Bay and Glenn, Halifax; two sisters, Sharon Brampton and Carolyn, Glace Bay and his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Irene and brother, Alex in 2008. Funeral arrangements will take place in Ontario. "Until we meet again. Rest in Peace." ************************************************* Bernard 'Eckles' McLeod Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 29/09/2010 Bernard McLeod, 68, of 118 Fifth St., Hub, Glace Bay passed away suddenly on Sept. 29, 2010. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Michael and Isabel (McDonald) McLeod. Bernie is survived by sister, Mary Mills; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Michael, Alex, Ginger, Billy and Francis; sisters, Shirley, Rita, Theresa and one in infancy. Bernie was employed many years ago at Cadegan's Fish Plant. He was also an avid softball pitcher in his younger years. Bernie also enjoyed harness racing and spending time as a member of the Hub Club. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Curry's Funeral Home. There will be a memorial mass for Bernie on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial in the parish cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to jmcurry@ns.sympatico.ca. ************************************************ Shirley Chiasson Passed away in: Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 28/09/2010 Shirley Chiasson, age 64, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit on Tuesday, September 28, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late John James and Lorena (Spencer) McDonald. Shirley had many friends that she thoroughly enjoyed this summer when she was visiting her grandchildren in Toronto, the highlight of her summer. She was an avid dart player. Shirley is survived by three sons, Danny, Ontario, Glen (Sonya), Victoria Mines, Ian, South Korea; husband, Danny; grandchildren, Payton, Nicole, Brandon, Taylor and Carson. Also surviving are sisters, Agnes (Kenny) Pastuck, Cecilia McPherson, Rosie Smith, Janice Mackie, Ann (Clarie) Gillis; brothers, Joseph (Rosalie), Johnny; mother-in-law, Jeanette Chiasson; brothers-in-law, Michael (Charlaine), Joey and a sister-in-law, Helen. Shirley was not only a loving, caring mother to her children; but also to many other children that she baby-sat over the years. She was predeceased by brothers, Melvin and John William; sisters, Kathleen Currie, Melissa White and Theresa Cooke. Visitation is today, Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Bill Rankin is Saturday, 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church followed by a reception in the church hall. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date in the parish cemetery. The family offers its sincere thanks to the Palliative Care Team at the Regional Hospital and Dr. O'Brien, Glace Bay. If love could have saved you; You would have lived forever. ****************************************************** Brent Porter Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 10/02/1981 Passed away in: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Passed away on: 26/09/2010 It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Brent William Porter on Sunday, September 26, 2010 in Edmonton. Brent was born in Glace Bay, February 10th, 1981. He has been living in Alberta for the past four years and was a member of Local 1325 working as a scaffolder. Brent graduated from Glace Bay High School in 1999 and from NSCC in Port Hawkesbury with his Forestry Resources Certificate in 2000. He continued as a student for many years after, gaining knowledge and sharing it with others. Brent was a person of great vitality; he loved to skateboard, paint, draw and spend time exploring the outdoors; he could make a fire out of the air. Brent had a great appreciation for music and loved to play the guitar and sing. He was an avid reader and very artistic. Brent spent time with family and friends this past summer in Glace Bay, and shortly after returning to Alberta he passed away. Brent will be forever loved and missed by his parents, Walter and Brenda (Martin) Porter; his sister, Tara (Shane) and his brothers Ryan (Sharon) and Clint (Tania); nephew, Brandon, many aunts and uncles, cousins, special friend, Alyson Roach and all of his friends - you know who you are; he loved you deeply. Brent was a true and wonderful synergism; God love and bless him. Always remember, "Bruce is cooler than you." He was predeceased by his grandparents, Thomas (Dolores) Porter and Edward (Joyce) Martin. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Captain Kristian Simms will be held on Monday, 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Citadel, Glace Bay followed by interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
