Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Gregory and Ruth (Hareguy) Fewer. He is survived by companion, Bev Souter, Toronto; daughter, Kimberly and two grandchildren, MacKenzie and Caeden, Winnipeg; brother, Gary (Maxine), Northside East Bay; sisters, Colleen (Wilf) MacCormick, Truro, Patricia (Gregory) MacLean, Sydney, Ruth (Frank), Sydney, Rebecca (Eugene), Sydney, Sheila (Gary), Sydney. She was the loving mother to three children, Bell (Frank) Ball, Bruce (Helen) Hickman and Cathy (Max) McPherson. She is also survived by sisters, Evelyn (Francie) Milley, Dora (Mel) Larson, Muriel (Dennis) Joynsen, Arlene (Brian) Darby and brothers, Bill (Jeanette), Art (Lil), Johnny (Rose), Charlie (Maureen), Richie (Debbie), Paddy (Irene). She was predeceased by her parents, Nina and Art Eagles; first husband, George; second husband, Lenny; brothers, Frankie and Ray. She will be sadly missed by her family, many friends and many grandchildren. Services to take place in Fort Frances, Ont ************************************** John Delaney Born in: Inverness, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Inverness, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 26/10/2010 It is with heavy hearts we, the family, announce the passing of John Barry Delaney, on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Inverness on June 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Ronald and Martha (Chisholm) Delaney. Barry worked as a coal miner, small engine repairman, adult care worker and recently as a heavy equipment operator. He belonged to the Operators Union Local 955. Barry was a wonderful father, papa, brother, uncle and son. He was a great friend to all. Barry was a very caring and compassionate person. He enjoyed playing cards and hunting. He was an avid storyteller and many laughs were shared by all with him. Barry is survived by, Eileen (MacNeil); son, David; daughters, Darlene (Justin) and Deborah (Charles), all of Inverness; brothers, Bill (Margie), Bernie (Karen), both of Dartmouth; sisters, Janice (Joe), Calgary, Mary (the late John) Lloyd, New Glasgow, Laurie, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Lorraine (the late Ronald) Delaney, Dartmouth; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Ronald. Barry's pride and joy were his grandchildren, Gillian, Avery, Owen and Ainslie. They adored their papa. He was very proud of his children and their many accomplishments. Visitation for Barry will take place on Saturday, Oct. 30, 7-9 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Inverness Funeral Home, MacIsaac Street, Inverness. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at Stella Maris Church with Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial to follow in parish cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.mem.com. ************************************** James 'Jimmie' MacLean Born in: Donkin, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 27/10/2010 James F. 'Jimmie' MacLean passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Taigh na Mara. Jimmie was born in Donkin, son of the late Angus and Jeanette (Scott) MacLean. During the Second World War he was a member of the RCAF and served in Canada and overseas. He was a member of John Bernard Croak VC branch 003. In Donkin, he was a well known Donkin bus service driver and was very active at St. Luke's United Church. He then spent 30 enjoyable years working at Seaboard Power Plant. Bowling, skating, dancing, watching sports and music were his main interests. Jimmie was an accomplished button accordion player and used his talent to play for seniors' parties and at the homes for special care all over the CBRM. His band was usually referred to as 'The MacLeans" and was comprised of Jimmie and his wife, brother Fraser and sister-in-law the late Georgie MacDonald. This activity gave him great enjoyment. He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Rodena (Matheson) MacLean; his daughter, Audrey (Robin) Barrett, Beaver Bank, N.S., and cherished granddaughter, Rilla; brother, Fraser (Joan) MacLean, Donkin; brothers-in-law, Holmes (Sheila) and Grant (Nancy) Matheson and sister-in-law, Margaret (Garry) Wilcox, all in Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmie was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Willie (Etta), Archie (Martha) and Stanley (Sarah) and sister, Agnes (Alex) Milley and also by brothers-in-law, G. Robert (Ada) and Willie (Betty) Matheson, sisters-in-law, Ellen (Robert) MacDougall and Georgie (Ken) MacDonald. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Patten Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's United Church, Donkin, at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 1, 2010. No flowers by request. Sparrow Born in: Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 25/04/1926 Passed away in: Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 15/10/2010 The last surviving member of his family, Joseph G. Sparrow passed peacefully with his family by his side at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born and raised in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Dr. Cecil and Helen (Tobin) Sparrow. Survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Loretta (Deveaux ); six sons, Cecil, Manny, Joey, Kelly (Iris), Colin (Ruth), Gerry (Denise); three daughters, Starla (Cecil MacQueen), Joanne (Fabian Lahey) and Doreen. Predeceased by brothers, Alex, Henry, Eddy, and Emanuel who died in action during the Second World War, and sisters Vin, Elaine, Jane, Murial, and a niece Betty. A veteran of the Second World War, Joe served in the armed forces from 1942-46. A machinist by trade, he retired from Cape Breton Development Corporation. A patriotic man, he dedicated his time to veteran affairs. He served on the executive of Branch 40 Legion for 12 years, president for seven years, Cape Breton District Commander from 1987-89, Zone Commander Zone 4 1989, three consecutive terms poppy chairman of the Provincial Command, president Cape Breton District Comfort Fund for 25 years representing 29 Branches in Cape Breton, N.S. He was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal and the Palm Leaf. He was also president of the Glace Bay Seniors Pensioner Club for seven years, president of Branch 2 Legion named in honour of his father Dr. Cecil John Sparrow. Funeral services have been entrusted to Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. In keeping with Joe's wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Reserve Mines on Monday, Oct. 18th at 2 p.m. Burial to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Reception to follow in the parish hall.
