A longtime Professional Golfer - a love for the game like no other. Born Jan. 6, 1926, in Sydney, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kasprysk) Paruch. She moved to Florida in the early 1970s from Montreal. She was a devout Catholic, enjoyed knitting, her dog 'Nicky' and chatting with neighbours. She was preceded by her husband, John, sisters, Stella Sobol, Minnie Shelly, and brother, Adam Paruch. She is survived by sister, Wanda Huk; brother, Teddy Paruch; and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial took place Sept. 4, 2010, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. **************************************** Arthur 'Art' Hood Born in: Canada Born on: 24/08/1931 Passed away in: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 12/09/2010 Passed away peacefully today (Monday, Sept. 13, 2010), at the age of 79, to join his loving wife Camella. Art spent a good part of his career working for the S&L Railroad. Later as a mature student he graduated From St. FX University earning his BA degree, on scholarship, at the age of 42. A man of integrity he refused to accept an offer of early graduation for his second degree (six weeks shy), to accept employment with the Federal Department of Veteran Affairs, retiring as a veterans councillor. Arthur leaves behind his daughter, Colleen (Hood) Doyle, husband Gorman, of Halifax; son, Arthur M., wife Pauline, of Dartmouth; sister, Nancy Matthews, husband Milton; nephews, Paul, Vance and Scott of Calgary; and brother, Larry, wife Nancy; nephews, Nicholas and Oscar, of Halifax. Born Aug. 24, 1931, he was the son of Arthur M. and Helen Hood. Raised in Glace Bay and Amherst, he moved as a young man to Sydney where he met the love of his life, Camella MacDonald, and returned to Glace Bay to raise his family. Affectionately know as Art by his many friends and relatives, he was lovingly called 'Sonny' by his immediate family. Art and Camella moved to Dartmouth after retiring to be near their children and grandchildren, Rebecca, and Christopher Doyle, Jessica, Arthur M. and Daniel Hood. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his greatest interest and joy in life. Art was a pool player, comfortable on a guitar, with a voice easy on the ears. He was an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast, and later in life an avid golfer. MacLennan, 96, of North River, died Sept. 12, 2010, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born Sept. 12, 1914, he was the son of the late Alexander N. and Jesse B. (MacKenzie) MacLennan of North River. He was a member of St. Ann's Bay United Church. Worked for Fisher Scientific of Toronto for 35 years. Served in the air force from 1942 to 1946. Served in Canada, Goose Bay, England and Central Europe. He is survived by sister, Florence (Eugene) Endermuhle; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Mamie Kathleen (Paley) of Elmsdale, N.S., and sister, Alene Lovegrove. The body is resting at St. Ann's Bay United Church with visitation Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 12-2 p.m. followed by funeral service at 2 p.m. in the church with Diane Kempt officiating. Margaree, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 13/09/2010 With great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Margaret who passed away at Saint Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, Sept. 13, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Born in N.E. Margaree in 1917 she was the eldest daughter of the late Frank and Cassie (Campbell) McDaniel. She married George Porter of Stellerton in 1943 and spent most of her married life in Sydney. In later years they moved to Pomquet, where they operated Porter's Bed and Breakfast for many years, which suited her giving personality. Always active in her church, Margaret was a lifelong member of the Catholic Women's League and the Cooperative Movement. She was a skilled crafts person and loved to pass on talents that included quilting, knitting and weaving. Margaret is survived by her daughters, Virginia Turner (Bill), Pomquet, N.S. and Jane Hominick (Brian), Riverview, N.B.; and her son, Dave (Josephine), Sackville, N.S.; her grandchildren, Sarah Abihanna (Joseph), Halifax, N.S., Daniel Porter, Sackville, N.S., David Turner (Jocelyn McNabb), Edmonton, Alta.; and Laura Leger (Jason), Moncton, N.B.; her sister, Catherine McDaniel, Antigonish, N.S.; brother-in-law, Clarence Porter (Gladys), Stellerton, N.S.; and a wide circle of friends. Lee at the Glace Bay Hospital after a brief illness on Sept. 13, 2010. Born in Sydney, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Allan and Elizabeth (Wadden) Pollett. She was married to James Lee on Jan. 23, 1940, and raised a family of six at Morien Station before moving into the Senior's Complex in Port Morien over 30 years ago. Once there, her love of gardening saw her take over the grounds which she tended with love, joy and lots of work until just a few yeas ago when her health wouldn't allow her to continue. The grounds were a summer showplace for years, that were admired by all who lived there or passed by. Aside from her love of flowers, Marion also loved her birds that visited her many feeders outside her window. Visiting her children that were spread out across Canada, also brought happiness to her life. Marion will be lovingly remembered by her children, Anne (Dwight), Bruce (Debbie) and Paul (Connie); her nieces, Lillian, Marguerite and Florence; her daughters-in-law, Kathlene Lee, Wendy Lee and Janice Smith; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Florence passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at the Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford where she had been a resident for the past 4 and a half years. Born in Glace Bay, Aug. 26, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Temple and Amelia (Rideout) Richards, and was a member of St. Eugene's Church, Dominion. Florence was a homemaker, a job she truly loved. Her true passion, besides her family and friends was dancing up a storm with the love of her life Frank. As a couple they became well known as 'The Dancers'. She also enjoyed numerous card games, especially 45s and scat. Florence was an outgoing person who truly loved to laugh. Florence was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Donna (Dennis) Sinclair, Glace Bay, Julieanna (Alonzo) MacNeil, Gardiner Mines, Paulette (Donald) Sexton, Truro, Debbie Barker, Toronto, Francene (Junior) MacNeil, Reserve Mines, Denise (Danny) McNeil, Glace Bay; sons, Richard (Irene), Alberta, Byron (Diane) Ontario, Roy, British Columbia, Michael, Truro; special granddaughter, Linda MacNeil, who Florence raised as a daughter; and special niece and nephew, Marilyn and Nick; also mourning her loss are 36 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
