Alexander 'Sandy' Muise Michael MacDonald James Cadden George 'Chick' Brown Gordon Strong Barry Corbett Leonard Marshall ******************************************************************************************************* Alexander 'Sandy' Muise Born in: Boularderie, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 15/12/1942 Passed away in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 29/08/2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander 'Sandy' Muise, on Aug. 29, 2010. He was a very kind and passionate man who loved his family dearly. Sandy was born on the farm in Boularderie, Cape Breton on Dec. 15, 1942. Having been raised on the farm, he acquired a passion for gardening and the great ourdoors. He spent most of his adult life living and working in Sydney. During his last 12 years, he and his wife Gail lived in Halifax working as superintendents of several apartment buildings. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gail; his four sons, William (Natalie), Gary (Andrea), Ronald (Christa) and Darren (Dee). Sandy is also survived by his loving mother, Lucy Muise; his two brothers James, and Donald (Debbie) and his sister, Mary (Reg); along with many extended family members. Sandy also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Sophie, Davis and Lauchlan. Sandy was predeceased by his father, Bill. The family would like to thank all the wonderful people who helped make Sandy's last few months as comfortable as possible. MacDonald 86, Mass./Big Pond/East Bay It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Michael A. MacDonald, on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 in Haverhill, MA. Born in Big Pond, N.S., to the late Dan J. and Isabel (MacIntyre) MacDonald. Big Mike, as he was known, is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Dad was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor who loved spending time at his home in East Bay, Cape Breton, fiddle music, dancing and Gaelic songs. Dad instilled his love for Cape Breton, its people, music and dance in each of us. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Martha (Martina MacIsaac); daughters, Christina (Wally) Murphy, Alanna MacDonald, Anne (Richard) Packard, Carol (Terry) Melanson and son, Michael MacDonald, all of MA. He will be remembered as a loving Papa by grandchildren, Devin, 'Chrissy', Brenda, Ryan, Stephen, Jimmy, Travis, Shawna and great grandchildren, Brianna, Joshua, Riley and Shanna. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel in 1989 and a daughter in infancy and by his sisters, Rachael (Joe) MacIsaac, Effie (Malcolm) MacKinnon, Mary (Mickey) MacKinnon, Catherine (Sandy) MacKinnon and Betty (Ernie) Ross. Visitation for Mr. MacDonald will take place on Sunday, Sept. 5 from 5-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, N.S. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, East Bay, N.S. with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and joint direction of Cota Funeral Home, North Reading, MA and T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. ************************************** James Cadden Born in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 23/10/1963 Passed away in: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 01/09/2010 James Richard Cadden Oct.23, 1962 - Sept 1, 2010 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of James Richard Cadden on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at the age of 47. He was a beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend. Jim was born in New Waterford and was the son of the Dave and Bessie (Hart) Cadden. He was a renowned drummer and a member of the Cape Breton Professional Musicians Association. He played in a number of popular bands from East to West Coast over the years, one of which was Johnny Burke and The Eastwind Band in Ontario. For a time Jim was a studio drummer for such performers as Janie Fricke, and Mel Tillis. Jim was very well known in the music business and will be missed by many. Not only was Jim a brilliant drummer but was very talented in string instruments and played bass on many occasions. Jim loved his family very deeply and his last departing words after every daily visit with his brother, Bree was "I love you". Jim is survived by his brother, Bree (Sharon) of New Waterford; four nieces, Lois Zaat (Steve) and children, Ethan and Marla of Saint John, N.B.; Dale Cadden and her children, Kelsey, Kalvin and Keir of Upper Tantallon, N.S.; Jennifer Cadden (Nolan Young) of Edmonton, Alta., Sally Cadden, Brampton, Ont. He is also survived by many close friends, cousins and neighbors, who were always there for him. Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by a brother, Albert. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place, under the care and direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. Funeral service will take place Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Calvin United Church, Hudson Street, New Waterford, with The Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, with a luncheon to follow at Calvin Hall, all are welcome. We will meet again" *********************************** George 'Chick' Brown Born in: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 16/05/1948 Passed away in: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 01/09/2010 It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and brother, George 'Chick' Brown, who passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010 at the Northside General Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Born in North Sydney on May 16, 1948, he was the son of the late William and Grace Brown. Chick loved family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chick was a welder by trade and a member of UA Local 682, often working out of province. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 008 in Sydney Mines. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Christine; his children, Lorraine (Rodney) Marinelli, Sydney Mines, Charice (Dana) Woods, Ont., George Brown, North Sydney, Patricia Brown (Lawrence), North Sydney, Lyle Brown (Crystal), North Sydney; stepchildren, Brandi LeBlanc (Corey), N.B., Andrew LeBlanc (Lacey), N.B.; his four brothers, Kenny, Jimmy, Thomas, Bruce; his two sisters, Susan, Janice, as well as his 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Lou and Evelyn Strong. Gordon was self-employed in the fishing industry; he was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors. He is survived by his wife, Violet 'Sissy'; sons, Kurt (Sabrina) and Leonard (Hilda); grandchildren, Renee, Kurt Justin, Trevor and Cody; brothers, Gary 'Doc' (Valerie), Bruce (Helen) and Lewellyn (Carol). Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Walter Corbett and Anna 'Nancy' (Crowe) Corbett of Dominion, and was a member of St. Eugene's parish. Barry was a true family man, nothing or no-one came before his wife Donna and their children Cassidy, Sarah and Keagan. Barry enjoyed sports, especially baseball and hockey, and he was a true fan to his team "The Boston Bruins". In 1980 Barry was a member of the Dominion Hawks baseball team and in that year they won the provincial title. He had a great sense of humor with a very quick and dry wit, Barry was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Barry was employed with the Autism Society, Resi-Care and in earlier years at Jaspers Restaurant in Glace Bay. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 26 years, Donna (Ferguson); daughters Cassidy, Sarah; son Keagan all at home; mother Nancy Corbett, Dominion; brothers Neil (Michelle), Greg (Donna), Walter (Paula), Michael (Mary), all of Glace Bay, Jake (Stella) New Waterford; sister Renee (Eddie) Penny, New Waterford, nieces, nephews and many great friends. In keeping with his giving nature, Barry's wishes to be an organ and tissue donor were honored. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the V.J. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Stephen and Helena (Herney) Marshall. He was a mechanic by trade. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Leonard is survived by his companion, Carol (McDonald) Paul; daughters, Twila Gould, Shelly Poulette, Eskasoni, Kyanne Paul (Tarek), Krystal Paul, Claire (Billy) Meuse, all of Membertou; sons, Warner Gould, Cloud (Alicia) Paul; sister, Mary Jane Marshall, brothers, Mike, Leo (Judy) and Lawrence Marshall, Eskasoni; 11 grandchildren; six godchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Lena Rose Gould, grandson, Eben Ryan Gould, sister, Nora Sack, brothers, Wilfred, Roddie, John and Bernard. Visitation will be held Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, after 7 p.m. at the family residence, 34 Veteran's Ave., Membertou. Leonard will then be resting in the Gabriel Centre after 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, until mass time 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at the Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni. Interment to follow in church cemetery.
