Marie a long time resident of International Street, Glace Bay, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay where she had been a resident for the past 2 1?2 years. Born in Glace Bay on April 27, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Augustus 'Gus' and Catherine 'Kay' (Wilson) Slade and a former member of St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay. Marie was an employee of Highland Fisheries, working at the Glace Bay processing plant for more than 20 years. She loved playing darts and played with a league at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 2, Reserve Mines, where she was also a member of their ladies auxiliary. Marie was a very pleasant, lovable and kindhearted person, who never had a bad word to say about anyone. Born in Glace Bay in 1917 she was a daughter of Isaac and Catherine (Haley) Batten. In earlier years, she was active in her parish social activities and annual fairs. She also had a keen interest in sports and was an avid swimmer until well into her 70s. Genny was a gentle and generous person who loved God, family, people, and animals, especially dogs. Genny is survived by three children, Betty (Carl) Turner, Glace Bay, Barbara (Alan) Sullivan, Western Shore, N.S., Joe (Pat), Catalone, Cape Breton and by daughter-in-law, Lee Ann McCormack. Also surviving are five sisters, Gert, Emmeline, Kathleen, Sr. Cecelia Catherine and Anna Marie; five brothers, Jim, Tom, Allie, Naish and Phil; 11 grandchildren, Arlene, Gary, Marc, Trevor, Susanne, Brian, Stephen, Caroline, Tracy, Tanya and Shaun and nine great-grandchildren, Karl, Garrett, Jennifer, Jason, Jamie, Sierra, Jack, Connor and Ryan. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late James William and Isabelle (Foote) Hollett. Jean remained active to the last twice weekly with Northwood Day Care and had been looking forward to the new season for her dart league with the Young at Heart Seniors Club in Spryfield. She was a member of the Spryfield Royal Canadian Legion having transferred last year from North Sydney and, previously, Channel - Port aux Basques, N.L. A champion bowler, she was forced into retirement by arthritis in her wrist. Predeceased by her husband Bob in 1980 and eight of her siblings, she leaves to mourn her sister, Gladys (Mrs. Boyd MacLean) of Glace Bay; her son, James Robert MacAulay; granddaughters, Tanya Christine Radkey, Cheryl Yaulene MacAulay, Meghan Danielle MacAulay, Caitlin Chelsea Anne MacAulay; grandson, James Jonathan MacAulay; great-grandson, Connor Robert Neal Radkey, all currently residing in Halifax; and many nieces and nephews. You are gone, but you will always be in my heart. ************************************************* Margaret Veronica (Keough) Peters Born in: Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 02/04/1920 Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret (Margie) Veronica Peters at the age of 90 years of Mira Road/Howie Center. She died at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, LeVatte's Lane where she was a resident for nine years. Margie was born in Whitney Pier on April 2, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Johanna Keough. Surviving children include, Joanne (Bill Rogers), Michael (Kathy), Elizabeth (Frank Aikens), Bernard and Gregory (Marie). Margaret's family has grown over the years to include grandchildren, Arthur, Matthew, Yvette and Tanya (children of Joanne and Bill), Michael (Lori Dawn) and Lisa (children of Michael and Kathy), Chris (Wendy), Raymond (Marni) and Glenn (children of Elizabeth and Frank), Joanna and Andrew (children of Greg and Marie). Margaret also had seven great-grandchildren, Victoria and Jason (children of Tanya) Jordan and Nathan (sons of Chris and Wendy), Cassie, Faith and Isabella, (Michael and Lori-Dawn), and one great great-grandchild, Mason. She is also survived by her extended family at LeVatte's Lane. She was predeceased by her husband, Austin Peters (1986). Margaret, who was the last person living in her immediate family, is the youngest of six children. She was predeceased by siblings, Mary (Joe MacNeil) Jenny, Loretta (Joe Doyle), Billy and Archie (Doddie), also a niece, Marie Kennedy, and nephew, Robert MacNeil. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Sadie Keough, wife of the late Billy Keough. Margaret is also survived by numerous special nieces and nephews. After Margaret finished her schooling, she went to work at Brown's Jewelry Store and Crowell's Ltd., jobs which she thoroughly enjoyed. Margaret was involved with Home and School on Mira Road, was a member of the Catholic Women's League at Immaculate Heart, and sang in the church choir at both Holy Redeemer and later at Immaculate Heart. Margaret was known for her wonderful homemade baking, and regularly had freshly baked treats waiting for her children when they arrived home from school. This tradition was passed on to her grandchildren, as they quickly learned to ask for Nannies' "brown cookies", who would willingly bake their favourite chocolate chip cookies. A sincere thank you to the Staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care and a very, very special thanks to the staff at LeVatte's Lane who gave 'mom' so much tender loving care over the past nine years.
