Kenneth MacKenzie Elizabeth 'Liz' Harris Charlene MacIntyre Dorothy (Bernard) Brown Martin Carroll Clara (Delaney) Lloyd David Yates ******************************************************************************************************* Kenneth MacKenzie Born in: Millville, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 04/10/1935 Passed away in: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 23/08/2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kenneth 'Ken' Howard MacKenzie on Monday, Aug. 23, 2010 at the Hamilton General Hospital. Beloved husband for over 53 years to Ruth (nee Ross). Adored and adoring father to Calvin (Tracey), Ken (Kim) and Ross (Judy). 'Fun Papa' of Wesley, Steven, and Matthew. Beloved brother of Hector (late Florence) of Millville, Donald (late Emily) of Hunter's Mountain, and Duncan (Rae) of Hamilton. Dear brother-in-law of Carrie MacKenzie, Patricia, Marion (Pat) Cooper, Ron (Alda) Ross, and Grace (Harry) Cybulskie. Beloved uncle to many nephews and nieces. Youngest son of the late Daniel and Annie Mae (nee MacDermid). Predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Agnes and Roderick MacKillop, Mary and Archie MacAulay, Murdoch and Catherine, Robert (Bob) and Ken's twin brother, Harold. Born Oct. 4, 1935 in Millville, Cape Breton, he came to search for his fame and fortune in Southern Ontario in his teens. He had over 40 years experience working in Tucketts/Imperial Tobacco where he made many, many friends. Time spent at his trailer with his sons, their partners, his grandchildren and his friends gave him an audience for his many jokes, eager mouths for his great cooking and brought much quality to his life. He was blessed with a beautiful voice that he shared with all, at any and all occasions. The family received friends at the L.G. Wallace Funeral Home, 151 Ottawa Street North (905-544-1147). A service was held in the memorial chapel on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #58 (Barton Street). "We are thankful unto God for Ken being in our lives - we are better people for having known him." ********************************* Elizabeth 'Liz' Harris Born in: New Brunswick, Canada Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 30/08/2010 Elizabeth Mary 'Liz' Harris, 71, Sydney, died suddenly on Aug. 30, 2010. Born in New Brunswick to the late Scott and Iva (Rideout) Seely, Liz moved to Cape Breton in 1965 with her late husband, Jim Harris. After a lengthy career at the Cape Breton Regional Housing Authority, Liz retired from management to pursue the things she loved best. Liz enjoyed gardening, tole painting, the piano, her books, and story-telling, but her greatest joy was sharing time with her husband and best friend, Jim. She also enjoyed and took great pride in her children and grandchildren. Liz is survived by daughters, Kimberly, Karrie, Kathie and Susan and sons, Scott and Stuart and their spouses. Also surviving are her grandchildren, John, Gregory, Geoffrey, Ryan Cameron, Brett, Lauren, Christine, Sophie and Owen. Liz leaves behind her sister, Marion and brothers, Phil, Alvin, Bruce, Lorne and Dale. Besides her loving husband, she was predeceased by grandson, Stephen. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of.... ********************************* Charlene MacIntyre Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 31/08/2010 photo Charlene MacIntyre It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, Charlene MacIntyre, at Scarborough General Hospital on Aug. 31, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. Charlene was born in Glace Bay, N.S. in 1956, and moved to Toronto in 2004. Charlene enjoyed playing darts and was a member of the Harp and Crown Dart League in Pickering, Ont. She loved to dance and spend time with her family and friends. Charlene was a loving mother to Cheryl Hoffmann (Peter), Vincent Cameron (Marsha), Crystal Savory (Toby) and Blaine MacIntyre and grandmother to Nicholas, Jorja, Clark, Jamie and Oliver. She is survived by her parents, Angus and Lorraine (Warren) MacIntyre and her brothers and sisters, Vincent, Tom, Ida (Dan Hinds), Joe, Norman (Jocelyn), Angus and Vera (Scott Schiffner). Charlene was loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed. She was predeceased by her grandparents, James Warren and Mary Michalik, Glace Bay and Joe Hughie and Margaret (MacKinnon) MacIntyre, Grand Mira. Mass will be celebrated with Fr. Norman McPhee at St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery. Refreshments and video to follow in church basement. Born April 10, 1928 in New Jersey, USA, she was the daughter of the late Mildred (Clarke) and Harry Bernard. Dorothy grew up in Charlottetown, P.E.I. and lived most of her adult life in Sydney, N.S. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and country music. Dorothy is surived by her son, James (Lillian) Brown, Lower Sackville; daughters, Janice (Rob) Somerville, Maine, Carolyn Fourgére, Halifax; grandchildren, Tyler and Kyle Somerville, Dallas, Geoff and Kimberlea Brown, Jillian Fourgére and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harry and Chester, both of P.E.I., Wayne, Alberta, Keith, Ontario; sister, Jean Cousins, Florida. She was predeceased by her husband, John James Brown; daughters, Nancy, Brenda; son-in-law, Scott Fourgére. Cremation has taken place. He was 86. Marty was born May 24, 1924 in Whitney Pier and spent most of his life in the Sydney area. He was the oldest child of the late James P. and Jane (Kehoe) Carroll. He is survived by his loving children, Nancy (Joe Gillis), Josh and Kit (John Kelly); one grandchild, Jocelyn Gillis and one great-grandchild, Lauren Elizabeth Johnston. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Flannigan; brothers, Patrick James (Bunny) and Tom (Lillian) O'Flaherty and stepbrother, Jim O'Flaherty, as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed as a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty (LeBrun) Carroll and four children, Susan, James LeBrun, Martin Joseph (M.J.) and Jane Elizabeth, who all died as a result of Cystic Fibrosis. He was also predeceased by his brother, Paul, stepbrothers, Tim, Cecil, and Michael and stepsister, Nellie. Marty was a bricklayer by trade and a woodworker by design. His woodworking hobby produced many gifts for his family and friends. These gifts are an important part of Marty's legacy because they were carefully crafted with love. He enjoyed reading and reciting poetry, was proud of his Irish heritage but most of all enjoyed being with people. He had a positive attitude and was a great conversationalist. His stories of years gone by were shared with many and were always laced with a wonderful sense of humour. He also used his talents to build and fly kites for the neighbourhood children. He served in the Second World War in England and Holland with the Canadian Army and was an active member of Branch 12, Royal Canadian Legion. He was awarded the Palm Leaf to the Meritorious Service Medal (M.S.M.) which is the highest legion award that can be granted to a life member for involvement in community activities. He worked at Sydney Steel for over 44 years, retiring as superintendent of the brick department. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mental Health of Nova Scotia, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Veterans Comfort Fund or any other charity. Marty's family want to acknowledge the amazing staff and facilities at Maplestone Enhanced Care for the loving care provided to dad and mom while they were residents. The respect, dignity and most of all the love they freely displayed to our parents is etched in our hearts forever. Thank you so much. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Sadie (Wade) Delaney. Clara enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, she was a former chairperson for the Red Cross Core. She was a member of St. Augustine's parish. Clara is survived by her daughters, Helen (Jerry) Cole, Judith Antinello, both of Sydney; sons, Arthur (Lise), Cheticamp, Frank, Sydney, Robert (Eileen), Sydney River; sister, Mary Doucette, Sydney; nine grandchildren, Joanne, Jimmy, Taylor, Cheryl, Jay, Lisa, Tanya, Erica and Brittany; eight great-grandchildren, Josh, Mikeala, Hunter, Landon, Hailey, Christopher, Nicholas, Rhylan, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of... ****************************************** David Yates Back to Cape Breton Post Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Framboise, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 03/09/2010 It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of David Yates on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late David and Phyllis (Davies) Yates. He lived on Tower Road, Glace Bay most of his life, until he moved to Framboise in 1989. Davie worked for a time in the coal mines in Glace Bay and Broughton. He also spent some time working in the uranium mine at Elliot Lake, Ont. as well as Cambridge, Ont. He was an ardent fisherman and conservationist and enjoyed fishing in the Mary Joseph River in the Framboise area. One of his favorite pastimes was walking the trails and beaches near his home. He enjoyed playing cards and many Saturday nights were spent at that activity in L'Ardoise and Grand River area with his favorite partner, Eva Sampson. He enjoyed time spent with good neighbors and friends in the Framboise area especially Terry and Ruby Burton who have been so kind to him during his illness. He was predeceased by his parents; oldest sister, Phyllis and brothers, Dennis and Kevin. He is survived by his sisters, Lily (Richard) Brock, Middletown C.T., Joyce (Frank) Debison, Cambridge, Ont., Gail (Shep) Doucette, Glace Bay, Barbara (Courtney) Hart and brother, Edward (Sharon) Yates as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
