BARRIE It breaks my heart to announce that cancer has claimed the life of George W. Barrie, my best friend, my lover and my husband in his 75th year. He passed away with his wife and family at his side. George was born Dec. 3, 1935 in Florence, Cape Breton to George and Elizabeth Barrie. George leaves behind his loving wife, Noreen (Kelly); his children, Catherine (Brian) Kelly, Ann (Irwin) Zaifman and Vaughan (Tim) Burden. Also his grandchildren, whom he loved very much, Nichole Kelly (Chris), Krystal Kelly (Joe), Cindy and Larry Wolfe, Matthew and Kaitlyn Burden and Zoe and Jacob Zaifman. Also missed by Noreen's children, Robert Kelly (Cheryl), Brian Kelly (Catherine), David Kelly (Colleen), Aileen Kelly-Devoe (Dave) and Sharon Creith (Dave). George also leaves behind several sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews, mostly in Nova Scotia. George served his country and NATO in Germany and at home with PPCLI. At George's request there was no public visitation or service, cremation has taken place. Born in Baddeck, C.B., she was a daughter of Christina (Don) Whitehead and the late Roy Nicholson. Lisa is survived by her children, Morgan, Kaitlyn, Kaleb, Mackenzie; sister, Tracey; several aunts and uncles. Cremation has taken place. 'Bip' MacPhail, 70, St. Peter's, Richmond County, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston, surrounded by family and friends. Born in Oban, he was the son of the late Hugh and Catherine (MacLeod) MacPhail. Melvin passed away shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. He is survived by his daughters, Kimberley (Russel) Carter and Angela (Terrance) Bona and son, Shane (Stephen) MacPhail and three grandchildren, whom he adored, Kyla Carter, Shalyn Bona and Ashlyn Bona. They will greatly miss their grampy Bippy. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Charles and Audrey (Whitman) Tracey. Ted was the first men's hairstylist East of Toronto, running the family barbershop for a number of years. For 16 years, he worked as regional manager for Central Trust, retiring from Nova Scotia Trust. Surviving are his son, Jeff (Katie Tolan), Washington, DC and their children, Rebecca and Andrew; daughters, Ellen (Mark) Gibbs, Ottawa, Ont. and their children, Kyle and Nathaniel and Erin (Jean Guy) Belzile, North Bay, Ont. and their children, Brianna and Keenan; great-grandchild, Christian; sisters, Frances (Wilfred) McLean and Laurel (Don) Alexander; longtime friend and dance partner, Jessie MacDonald; and his cat, Shadow. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Christena (Cameron) Poulain. She was a member of St. Theresa parish, Sydney and a former longtime member of the parish CWL. She was also a member of Club 55 and Sydney Steelworkers Pensioners Club. Millie was a very active member of the ladies auxiliary Branch 12 Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney. She had been employed at the general office as well as Zellers. She worked for years as a seamstress out of her home.
