Eric passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, doing what he loved to do, fishing. Eric would have turned 62 on Sunday, June 12, 2011. Born in Burnt Island, N.L., he was the son of the late Arthur and Sarah (King) Keeping. Eric was a life long fisherman. He loved fishing with his buddy, Basil Vaters and good friend, Herbie Nash. He also cherished his long Sunday drives with his loving wife of 36 years, Frances 'Maid'. Eric will be sadly missed by his wife, Frances 'Maid' (Cluett); daughter, Leona (Jason) McVicar, Halifax; son, Eric (Cara), Halifax; brothers, John (Linda), Newfoundland, Arthur (Katie), Newfoundland; Poppie's four treasures, grandchildren, Jacob, Bryanna, Rebecca and Ava. He was a former member of St. John's Church, Glace Bay. Carl was employed with a car parts manufacturing plant in Kitchener, Ontario for many years. He was "Mr. Fix It"; there was nothing he could not fix. He was a quiet and very kind man and will be missed by all who knew him. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Florence Lund. She is survived by her loving husband, Jimmie of almost 50 years; along with her four children, Jo-Anne, Halifax, Michelle (Carlo) DiLiberatore, Halifax; Scott (Bridget), Sydney; Rhonda, Halifax. Bette was also the proud grandmother of Leyna, Jordon, Saxon, Savannah, Rielle, Sloane and special godchild, Dylan MacDonald. Bette is also survived by her siblings, Eileen (Allister) MacDonald, Louise Cann, Christine (John) Thompson, John (Margie); Eddie (Kaye), brother-in-law, Raymond Petrie; sister-in-law, Mora Lund. She was predeceased by siblings, Gordon, Elmer, David, Evelyn, sister-in-law, Frances, brothers-in-law, Wayne Cann and Lee Marshall. In her early years she worked at MacGillivary Guest Home, then for many years drove a school bus and most recently was employed at the Mira Stitch'n Post - a job which involved her greatest passion, quilting. She was lifetime member of the St. Margaret's Ladies Aid in Grand Mira. She had many hobbies, some of which included ceramics, tole-painting, cake decorating, bunka and wood working. She was known to enjoy a good game of tarabish and was never afraid to speak her mind. The family would like to send a special thank you to mom's doctors, the staff and nurses at the QE II 4th floor Med Day Clinic, especially Paula Sudworth-Adams, and to Janice Black, whom Mom always referred to as her 'guardian angel'. Born in Freshwater, N.L., and a former resident of Thompson Street and Pellett Avenue, New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Mary Jane (LeShane) Butt. Beatrice was a member of Calvin United Church and a former member of the UCW. In her younger years, she was employed at General Instruments. Beatrice enjoyed quilting, oil painting and was a volunteer with the joy program. She was a real lady and was loved by all. Beatrice will be remembered for her compassionate and gentle nature. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. He was the only child of Peter John and Marie Jeannette (Chiasson) McKeown. He was the proud owner of Laurie's Motor Inn. A true businessman at heart, Laurie unknowingly helped many in his community. He enjoyed the simple things in life, most of all, a drive through the provincial park or a fishing trip to Wreck Cove. His heart was truly in his hometown of Cheticamp. He will be missed by family and friends both near and far. Born in Whitney Pier in 1925, Teresa was the daughter of the late David and Margaret (Hayes) Piercey. Mum served as a member of the Canadian Women's Army Corps in the Second World War. She was an avid reader and kept daily journals. She passed her love for reading to her children. She will also be remembered for her world class cooking, gardening, travelling and always having a warm heart for children and grandchildren. Teresa is survived by her children, daughters, Glennis Gordon (Ned), Sydney, N.S., Tara Henry (Jim), Langley, B.C.; sons, Robert (Betty), Beaverbank, N.S., Randy (Diane), Sydney River, N.S., and George (Natasha), Ottawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Sean, Tara, Amber, Colin, Robert, Daniel, Sidney, Cameron, Iain, Conor and Georgia and great-grandchildren, Connor, Madison, Breanna, Justin, and Tanner. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. ******************************************* Roger Michael Christmas Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Membertou, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 11/06/2011 Roger Michael Christmas Sr., 55, of 66 Tupsi Dr., Membertou, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary Bridget (Isadore) Christmas. Roger's favourite pastime was working on computers and being a ham radio operator (VE1CMR). He was employed with MicMac News for a number of years as photo-type setting layout and design and then was employed with Membertou Band Council for 25 years as the elementary school bus driver. He served in the Militia and the Canadian Armed Forces starting in 1978 as a Corporal in Halifax and CFB Borden, Ont. He took a rank down to private when he joined the regular forces as a mechanic when he retired from CFB Borden he was a Master Corporal. Roger also drove charter bus runs outside school activities during the summer months. He drove during the Wally Bernard Hockey Tournaments and volunteered at the C@P site in Membertou and St. Anthony Daniel at the time. He greeted each of his students with a smile and a hello and sometimes even a hug, having the song Cotton Eye Joe blasting when they got on to his bus. Dad was a very respected man in his community and he will be deeply missed by his past and present students, especially by those who knew him. He is survived by his wife the former, Jessie Simon; his children, Cynthia (T.J. Sylliboy), Ben (Michelle Paul), Miranda (Billy Loveys), Roger Christmas Jr.; grandkids, Britany, Keegan, Shayla, Ethan, Cody, Oceania, Shana, Mason, Hope, Emma, Jayla; brothers, Robert (Edith) Christmas, George (Terry) Christmas; sisters, Judy (Basil Hodder), June (John) Christmas, Cecilia (Earl) Christmas, all of Membertou; and sister, Joan (Paul) Martin of Ottawa. Online condolences may be sent to twcurry.com. ****************************************** SISTER MARCELLA RYAN Sister Marcella Ryan 71, Mississauga, ON/Glace Bay Sister Marcella Ryan passed away peacefully at the Trillium Health Center, Mississauga, ON, On Sunday May 29, 2011 after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. Born in Glace Bay, May 19, 1940, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Agnes (MacIntyre) Ryan. She entered the Sisters of Charity, in Halifax in 1959. Marcella was first professed in 1962. Sister Marcella taught school for 17 years in NewWaterford and Glace Bay. She completed studies in Canon Law at St. Paul University, Ottawa and subsequently worked for 13 years in the marriage tribunals of Nelson, B.C., Montreal and Halifax. In 1996, Sister Marcella was elected to Congregational Leadership and served in this capacity for 6 years. From 2004 - 2006, she was Pastoral Assistant at Merciful Redeemer Parish in Mississauga. Sister Marcella volunteered as settlement worker and tutor with recent immigrants. Besides the Sisters of her Congregation, she is survived by her sisters: Mary (Dennis) Milner, Barbara (Michael) MacCormack, Elaine Kalm, Annette (Fred) Orthwein; her brothers: Francis, Partrick (Sylvia), James (Liette), William (VIivian), John and sister-in-law Betty and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Geralda, June McNeil, Caroline McNeil, her brother D'Arcy, her sister-in-law Alice Ryan and brothers-in-law Charles McNeil and James McNeil.
