Captain George Greene Kathy MacDonald Creighton Benjamin Bungay Malcolm 'Malcie' MacDonald John O'Keefe ******************************************************************************************************* Captain George Greene Born In: Burgeo, Newfoundland, Canada Born On: 02/07/1934 Passed Away In: Petit De Grat, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 15/06/2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a great husband, dad and pépé, on June 15, 2011, surrounded by his family. Born in Burgeo, Nfld., he was the son of the late George and Bertha (Strickland) Greene. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lynette. He was a proud and loving dad to Garfield (Marlene), Sydney, Maureen (Mark), Cole Harbour, Cheryl (Glenn), Fall River, Jennifer (Charlie), Fall River, Heather (Bill), Barrie, Ont. Never a prouder pépé to Ashley (Mike), Natasha, Bianca, Erin, Joella, Bailey, Kayla, Haley, Brittany, Matthew, Mason, Laura, and Mallorie; brothers, Albert (Selma), Halifax, Cecil (Ada), North Sydney. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his brothers, Seward, Fredrick, Maxwell, Gordon, and Lewis. He worked for Booth Fisheries and then Richmond Fisheries for 40 years as a Captain then Shore Captain. One of his favourite pastimes was telling stories of his fishing experiences in vivid detail. Spending time with his grandchildren resulted in lots of joy and laughter. The family would like to send a special thank you to the nurses and staff of the third floor palliative care of St. Martha's Hospital. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at IML Funeral Home, Petit De Grat. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Parish Church in Petit De Grat. Arrangements are under the direction of IML Funeral Services in Petit De Grat. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A luncheon to follow at the KOC. Arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home. ******************************************* Creighton Benjamin Bungay Born On: 16/09/1918 Passed Away On: 16/06/2011 Born Sept. 16, 1918, in North Sydney, a resident of Bras d'Or, Creighton was predeceased by loving wife Melita (DuGas). He is survived by sons, Eric (Paula), Tampa, Florida, and Hal (Candis and children, Brenan and Alana), Fletcher's Lake, N.S. The son of the late George and Jenny (Dicks) Bungay, Creighton, the oldest of 13, is survived by brothers George, North Sydney, and Reginald, Little Pond, and sisters Mary (Mrs. Lauchie Stubbert), Alder Point, Sadie (Mrs. James Roland), Alder Point, and Joyce Mulley, Florence. He will be deeply missed by companion, Helen MacNeil. Creighton was predeceased by brothers William, Clyde, Murray, Leo, and sisters Susan (Mrs. Gus Pero), Vera (Mrs. Tom Riggs) and Cavell. A proud veteran of the Second World War, Creighton served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy, and was 'Mentioned in Dispatches' for Distinguished Service by King George VI. He was a member of the Cape Breton Naval Veterans Association, a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 83, and also served 16 years leading young men with the Boy Scouts of Canada. A carpenter by trade, Creighton was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners. Visitations will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. Funeral mass take place at St. Anne's Church, Alder Point, Saturday, 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 83 in Florence. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harbour View Hospital, Sydney Mines or a charity of your choice. ***************************************** Malcolm 'Malcie' MacDonald Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 14/06/2011 Mr. Malcolm 'Malcie' MacDonald, 72 of Glace Bay passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Olivia (Clarke) MacDonald. Malcie was a resident of Victoria Haven Nursing Home for more than 20 years. He was well known in the Glace Bay area. He is survived by sisters, Joan (the late Garfield) Jenkins, Ont., Christine (Gary) Putt, Ont.; brother, Robert (Annie) MacDonald, Ont.; nieces, Beverley (Hall) White, Wendy Lee Curtis, Glace Bay, Michelle Putt, Ont.; nephews, Gary Jenkins and Karl Jenkins, Ont. and numerous other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Malcie was predeceased by brother, Elroy, Ont. and sister, Hazel Hall, Glace Bay. Visitation for Malcie MacDonald will take place at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Cremation will follow. Interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Victoria Haven Nursing Home. O'Keefe, age 87 of Maple Avenue, Glace Bay, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, John F. was the son of the late Arthur and Helena (Bates) O'Keefe. He was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Glace Bay. John F. started working for the S & L Railway Company in 1943. He left his job to serve his country during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Engineers. When the war ended, John F. returned to his old job, retiring in 1986 from the S & L/Devco Railway Company. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 3, Glace Bay and also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1953, Glace Bay. John F. was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan and in his younger years, coached little league baseball in the local area. He loved to hunt, fish and play cards. But mostly; John F. will be remembered as a quiet, compassionate and gentle man, who loved his wife and family. John F. is survived by his wife, Margaret (Moffatt) O'Keefe; one daughter, Lynne (David MacIsaac), Glace Bay and one son, Kevin (Lorraine) O'Keefe, Ottawa. Also surviving are three sisters, Marie McGean, Leona O'Keefe, both in Massachusetts, Betty Nealis, Glace Bay; four grandchildren, Michael, Laurie, David, Natalie (Adam) and several nieces and nephews. John F. was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Anthony, David, Arthur and three sisters, Mary, Rose, Victoria. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Norman MacPhee will be held Monday morning at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church, followed by interment in the parish cemetery. All are invited to a reception at John F.'s daughter's home on 1 Norwood St., Glace Bay. As an expression of sympathy for John F., memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Diabetic Association or Palliative Care. The Knights of Columbus, Council 1953, Glace Bay, will hold a prayer service Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Members of the R.C.L., Branch No. 3, Glace Bay will form an honour guard for their departed comrade on Monday morning at the entrance of St. Anthony's Church.
