Born in L'ardoise, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Catherine (Martell) Sampson. Obeline was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her children, Connie (John) Jennings, Albert Bridge, Kay (Paul) Fraser, Kentville, Michael 'Mike' (Dena) Karluk, Marion Bridge; nine grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Karluk and her siblings. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday June 20, 2011 in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Reception to follow. Billy enjoyed a good game of cards with family and friends, country music and good food. Friendship came easily to Billy and the loyalty he so readily gave to so many is evident in the number of relationships he has nurtured throughout his 68 years. Billy is survived by his loving wife Evelyn (Delaney) of 48 years; adored daughter Heather (Sandy McNeil) and cherished granddaughter Victoria (St. FXU); sisters Arlene (Phil), Devereaux, Sydney River and Doreen Smith, Hawaii; brothers Hughie, New Victoria, Bobby (Margie), USA and Davey (Margurite), Windsor, NS. Besides his parents, Billy is also predeceased by sisters Fran and Kay. Cremation has taken place as per his wishes. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Monday, June 20th at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church, Hudson St., New Waterford with Rev. Born in Goirle, The Netherlands, she was the daughter of Cornelius and Agnes Marie (Peeters)VanBijsterveldt and immigrated to P.E.I. with her husband in March, 1956. Later in life, they were long time residents of Big Bras d'Or, Cape Breton. Mom loved welcoming visitors and guests to Mountain View by the Sea, which she managed for many years. She loved gardening and chatting with her many friends and neighbors. She is survived by her husband, Jozeph Pieter; her children, Sophia, Mieke Manley, Joseph, Patricia VanSchaick McCune, Vincent and Pieter; her sons- and daughters-in-law, Alexander Manley, Janet (MacLean), Joan (Clark), Timothy McCune, Sheila (Mettam) and Lisa (Tran); her grandchildren, Barbara, Maria, Patrick and Elizabeth Hayes; Anna-Marie, Gillian, Aiden and Sander Manley; Marguerite, Krista, Janet, Joseph and Jakob VanSchaick, Sharon Hines and Stacey Tippeneskum; Chelsea and Magnus McCune; Ian and Mark Van Schaick; Cara and Schuyler VanSchaick; her great-grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle and Kya Tippeneskum; also by her brothers and sisters and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Marinus and Maria Bysterveldt, Quirinus and Magdalene VanBijsterveldt, Franz Abrams, Johannes and Jeanne VanBijsterveldt and Adrianna and Harry van den Broek, by Nellie Gjerlov and by many nieces and nephews. Because we have something of Mom in all of us. ***************************************** Sr. Mary Maloney Born In: Joggins, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 17/06/2011 Sister Mary Maloney, 86, a Sister of Saint Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany, the motherhouse, on Friday, June 17, 2011, in the 53rd year of her religious life. Born in Joggins, Nova Scotia, Sister Mary was one of 10 children of the late Martin and Jean (Scott) Maloney. Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on Feb. 15, 1957, pronounced her first vows in 1959 and her perpetual profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1964. Prior to entering the congregation, Sister Mary worked as a domestic as well as in factory and general office work. After her profession of vows, Sister spent most of her life ministering in institutions operated by the congregation. In Antigonish she served at Bethany, St. Martha's Hospital and St. Martha's Convent (St. F.X.). She served also at St. Pius X Seminary, Ottawa. In 2002, Sister retired to the motherhouse where she resided until her death. Sister Mary is survived by sisters, Dorothy Maloney, New Glasgow, Isabel Chadwick and Elizabeth Munzie, both of Trenton. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Gladys Anderson, Margaret Maloney, Phyllis Kearns and brothers, Charles, Dan and Martin. The remains will be resting at Bethany, beginning Sunday, June 19 at 1:15 p.m., where a Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, June 20, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Chapel. Born 1921 in Ramea, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Nina (Morris) Payne. Mom resided for many years at the Maple View Manor in North Sydney, where she enjoyed a good game of cards, bingo and puzzle nights with her friends. She then later moved to Lower Sackville to be close to her family and resided at Ivy Meadows Nursing Home, Beaver Bank. She is survived by son, John (Audrey) of Lower Sackville; daughter, Veronica Belisle of Beaver Bank; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Pat; sister, Violet and brother, Hubert. Mom will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and a friend to all who knew her. Online condolences may be made to www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com. ****************************************** Douglas Vallance Born In: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Barrie, Ontario, Canada Passed Away On: 29/05/2011 With much sadness we announce the passing of Doug on May 29, 2011 at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ont. Born in North Sydney and raised in Bras d'Or, he was the son of the late John and Josie Vallance. Doug left Cape Breon at the age of 18 and spent his adult life in Ontario, with many visits to Cape Breton. He was well known for his work in the arena industry around the world, selling, designing and installing Crystaplex Arena products and Ice Pro products for over 40 years. He designed a system called Supportless Dasher Board, which is still used today and bears his name. He spent numerous weeks in both Sydney and Halifax working in Centre 200 and the Halifax Metro Center. He received many awards and much recognition for his work. Doug is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jane, Barrie, Ont.; his son, Brent, Mississauga; his sister, Marjorie Serafinus, North Sydney; his nephew and his wife, Greg and Lisa Serafinus, Halifax; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; his half-brothers, Dan and Jackie Vallance; half-sisters, Mary Allen, Jean Marlowe and Doris Bowser. Cremation took place and a Memorial Service, presided over by his sister, Marjorie and a Celebration of Life was held June 10, 2011 at the Westwood Arena, Rexdale, Ont. "We loved him and he will be missed." ******************************************** Helen Delores (Coadic, Hayes) McCabe Passed Away In: Sundridge, Ontario, Canada Passed Away On: 16/06/2011 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Helen Delores McCabe (Coadic, Hayes) she was 76 years of age. She passed away peacefully with her loving husband and best friend by her side on June, 16, 2011, in Ontario where she resided for the past 20 years with husband Art McCabe. Delores 'Dodie' was employed as a nurse for many years at St. Rita Hospital before her retirement in the 1980s and where she met her friend of many years, Dorothy Mackenzie. Delores will always be remembered for her sewing, especially when it came to her quilting. Delores will be sadly missed by her husband and best friend, Art; her loving dog, Spooky; her children, Denise (Shawn), Donna (Peter), Patti (John), Steven (Dale), all of Sydney, and Barbra (Dave), Ottawa; sisters, Mary and Verne of Sydney; many grandchildren; Carole Ann and Raymond, whom she adored and had the chance to spend quality time with as they grew with her. She had a special place in her heart for Tristan, her great-grandson; also great-grandchildren; as well as Art's children and families, Dave (Michelle), Brenda, Brian (Vicky), Kelly (Dave) and Sherry, all of Ontario. During her retirement she became well known for her sewing and baking and helping out in the community of Sundridge. She was a member of the quilting club where she met many dear friends. She was predeceased by mother Alice (Mulrooney), father Augustine (Hayes), brothers, Pat, Jim, Tom and sisters, Rita and Loretta. She has left a part of her in all of us and will always be in our thoughts. There is no visitation or funeral.
