Donald 'Gordon' Macaulay Ruby (Adams) King Mabel MacDougall Mary (Nicholson) Malley ******************************************************************************************************* Donald 'Gordon' Macaulay Born In: Baddeck Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Baddeck, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 08/06/2011 Donald William 'Gordon' Macaulay, 98, of Baddeck, passed away June 8, 2011, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital. Born in Baddeck Bay on Nov. 22, 1912, he was the eldest son of the late Murdock and Annie (MacDonald) Macaulay. Gordon was self-employed all his life. He started his career in sales at the early age of 16 going door to door around Cape Breton Island, selling subscriptions to the Family Herald. He later went on to sell life and automobile insurance and in 1949 he opened Macaulay's Garage Ltd. where he bought, repaired and sold automobiles. He was also involved in the construction and pulp wood industries. Gordon was a member of Greenwood United Church, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Philae Temple Shriners and St. Mark's Lodge No. 35 of Baddeck. In 2000, Gordon was honoured by the Baddeck and Area Business and Tourism Association for his support and interest in community affairs. Gordon is survived by his wife of 63 years, Grace 'Ruth' Baker; son, Gordon (Doreen) Macaulay and daughter, Suzanne (Earl) MacDonald. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Christopher (DeeDee), Jeanette (David), Jonathan (Kelsey), Shauna and Kimberley (Darcy); five great-grandchildren, Shamus, Grace, Sam, William and Ryder; and many nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by his brothers, Alex, Dr. Dougall and Dannie and sisters, Margaret and Isabelle. In honour of Gordon's wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of MacAskill's Funeral Home and there will be no visitation. A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at Greenwood United Church on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Karen Lynch officiating, reception to follow. Family flowers only, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. **************************************** Ruby (Adams) King Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Passed Away On: 08/06/2011 Peacefully at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, Ruby Claudine King, in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of the late Harold King (May 23, 2000). Predeceased by her infant son, Paul Gregory (Aug. 14, 1954). Dear mother of Debbie and her husband, Marc Dupuis. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Andree (Paul) Davis, Justine (Mark) Bucknell and Troy Dupuis and her great-grandchildren, Cole, Faith and Zach Davis and Trent Bucknell. Born in Sydney, N.S., Ruby enjoyed her retirement years divided between Oshawa and Port Richey, Florida. Arrangements entrusted to Oshawa Funeral Home, 847 King St. West, Oshawa (905-721-1234). Online condolences may be offered at www.oshawafuneralhome.com *************************************** Mabel MacDougall Born In: North Ingonish, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 08/06/2011 Mabel MacDougall, 85, of Brown Street, Sydney, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born in North Ingonish, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Mary Chatfield (Canning) Hardy. Mabel was instrumental in setting up the hospital auxiliary, serving as president for 14 years and vice-president for four years. Til present day, she continued to be an active member. Her number one interest, besides her family, was the ladies auxiliary and raising money for the hospital. In 2003, she was named "Maritimer of the Week" for her volunteer efforts on behalf of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Mabel was also an avid tarabish player with her best friend, Nellie Betts. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. Mabel was a member of St. George's Anglican Church, Sydney. She was formerly employed with Eaton's, Smart Shop and Dr. Sandy MacDonald. Surviving are her daughter, Cindy (Michael) Anthony, Howie Centre; sons, Bill (Carole), Medicine Hat, Donnie, at home, Lloyd (Anne), Albert Bridge, and Gerald (Veronica), Sydney; brothers, Wilfred (Jean), Sydney, Gordon (Stella), North Ingonish, Richard, Toronto, and Gerald (Barb), Vancouver Island; grandchildren, Keith (Izabella), Craig (Zoe), Kent, Pamela Buist (Philip), Melissa, Robert and Anthony; great-grandchildren, Kara, Evan, Madeline, Cole and Frederick. Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Allan in 1998, sisters, Gladys, Lizzie and Elsie, brothers, William, Claude and Harold. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. George's Anglican Church on Monday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Glen Kent officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Clarke) Nicholson. She lived for many years on School Street in Caledonia before moving to Ontario. Mary is survived by daughters, Susie (Dannie) Royal, Dominion, Heather (Bob) Mounce, Glace Bay; sons, Donald (Maryann) Nicholson, B.C., Brian (Dorothy) Muzzerall, Ontario, Doug (Liz), Muzzerall, Ontario, Jim Muzzerall, Glace Bay, Jerry (Merna) Muzzerall, Ontario, and Gerald Muzzerall, Ontario. She is also survived by sister, Margaret 'Peggy' MacPherson, Ontario; sisters-in-law, Joanne Nicholson, Glace Bay, Thelma Nicholson, Sydney; 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by son, George, daughter, Donna, brothers, Donald, Thomas, George and sister, Marion. Visitation for the late Mrs. Mary Malley will be Friday, June 10, 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service to be held 11 a.m., Saturday at Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Kirk Neville officiating. Interment in Black Brook Cemetery at a later date.
