Bridget was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. Born in Bras d'Or, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Elizabeth (Laffin) Hawkins. She is survived by her five sons, John, Robert, Jacob (Eva), Brian (Sharon), George (Ann); as well as three special sons, Kevin, Kenny and Michael Reid; her four daughters, Shirley Ann (George) Snow, Mary, Judy and Betty Lou. Also left to mourn are her brothers, Jody, Earl (Eva) and Jimmy (Margie). Bridget is also survived by her 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She will be sadly missed by her good friend of 70 years Winnifred MacRae. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jacob Reid, three sons, Jacob, Donald and William, brother, Johnnie, sister, Rose and son in-law, Robert Ferguson. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Waver, Palliative Care, and VON. Her family will fondly remember Grandma's Diner. No one passed through her kitchen without Bridget offering something to eat and in her later years, she would depend on Betty Lou to do the same. Visitation for Bridget Reid will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. David Luker officiating. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Alexander Frederick Le Roux Born In: West Arichat, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: West Arichat, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 17/06/2011 Alexander Frederick Le Roux (LeRue), 88, West L'Ardoise, passed away peacefully Friday, June 17, 2011, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Strait Richmond Hospital. Born in West L'Ardoise, he was the son of the late, Alexander and Elizabeth (Mombourquette) Le Rue. He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise, and was a a veteran of the Second World War serving with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, landing on Juno Beach as part of the D-Day invasion. He enjoyed making models boats of the Bluenose, which today can be found all over the world, as well as keeping a daily journal of the weather. He was a devoted husband and father, and is survived by son, Michael, West L'Ardoise; daughters, Simone (Barry) MacNeil, Port Hawkesbury, Yvonne (Don) Wood, Elmsdale, Lucienne (Ray) Matheson, Petrolia, Ont.; grandchildren, Jannine (Dan) Roundtree, James MacNeil, Donald (Soleil) Wood, Adam (Allison) Wood, Nadine (Creighton) Barrett, Danielle (Mark) Thurtell, Stephanie ( Todd) Marten; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Megan, Michaela, Evan and Payton; brothers, Clem, Richard and Gerard. He was predeceased by his wife, Claire, brothers, Charles, Bernard and sisters, Virginia, Rose and Catherine. Ma as she was known by everyone was born in Sydney Mines on June 6, 1920, and was the daughter of the Late J.T. (Tupper) Boyd and Wilamiena Young. She was a member of St. Pius X Church. She was loved by all who knew her and would light up the room when people came to visit. Ma is survived by her daughters, Lena, Truro, Penny (Wayne) Young, Sydney Mines, Betty Ann (John), Florence; and son, Ronald (Cathy) Kentville; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four sisters, Tina Crewes and Lorraine (John) Burton, both of Sydney Mines, Betty (James) Stewart, Sydney, Bev (Don) Robin, Cochrane, Ont.; and several nieces and nephews. Ma was predeceased by her husband, the late Gordon Miles, son, Jackie, daughter, Emma, sisters, Anastasia, Henrietta, Marie, Mary and two brothers, Dan and Rannie. Born April 14, 1936, in Friar's Head, Cape Breton, Donald was the beloved son of the late William and Mary Matheson. Donald married Anna MacLellan on Dec. 26, 1957, and together they raised three children, Betty, Toronto, Debby, Edmonton, and Ian, Kingston. Donald provided for his family through plumbing, electrical and heating (William Matheson & Son). There was never a service call too late or too far away. Later on in life Donald's hobbies included repairing used appliances which he did, we believe, to enable him to go out and meet people. An extremely active community member throughout his life Donald had been; chairperson of St. Michael's Parish Council, board member of the Highland Credit Union, executive chief of Margaree Volunteer Fire Department, councillor and Deputy Warden for the County of Inverness, member of Robert Wick's Council No. 9936, a Fourth Degree Knight's of Columbus, founding member of Belle Cote Community Center, founding member of the Cheticamp Snowmobile club, founding member of Sunset Funeral CO-OP, board member of Margaree CO-OP, and founding board member of the North Inverness Arena. Donald's achievements include the exemplary and long service awards as a volunteer firefighter. Donald was also a proud card carrying member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. Donald is survived by his wife, Anna Matheson; children, Betty, Debby Gale (Harold) and Ian (Joanne); grandchildren, Brett Gale (Danusia) and Erin Gale; and a sister, Gloria LeBlanc (Harry). Born in Gardiner Mines, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Ann (MacDonald) Mackie. Margaret, a devout catholic, was a member of the former Mount Carmel Church, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard, and the CWL. She was known for her great sense of humour and had a deep love for her family; they meant everything to her. Margaret is survived by her children, Len (Rose), Joan McIsaac, Frank (Brenda), Sheila (Russell); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Isobel Roach, Alice Kyte, also cherished friend Sylvia Jeffrey. She was predeceased by husband, Charles, brothers, Angus, Dan, Charlie, Leonard, Bernie, Johnny, Pat, Tom. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 21 from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. Willard 'Bill' Ramsay Born In: Barryville, New Brunswick, Canada Born On: 22/01/1921 Passed Away In: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Passed Away On: 17/06/2011 Passed away peacefully June 17, 2011, in Winnipeg. He is remembered by his wife Nell; son, Michael; daughter, Kathy (Paul) Hearsum; grandchildren, Kelli (Mitch), Reid and Breanne; sister, Noreen; sister-in-law, Vera; brother-in-law, Edward Ruchkall and his wife Shirley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his father, Albert, mother, Marceline, infant son, Philip, brothers, Louis, Peter, Joseph, Brian and sister, Viola. Born Jan. 22, 1921, in Barryville, N.B., Bill joined the RCAF in 1941 and enlisted in the RCMP in 1946 after demobilization. While stationed in Flin Flon, Man., he met the woman who would be his love for 60 years, marrying Nell on July 16, 1951. Bill proudly served in the RCMP and his career took the family to Sydney and Halifax, N.S., and then to Winnipeg, where he retired in 1971. Bill then worked in the security detail at the Bank of Canada until he retired for a second time in 1981. Now fully retired, Bill and Nell travelled widely throughout Europe and Israel, with the highlight a visit to Rome and the Holy Land. They escaped Winnipeg's cold winter months with frequent trips to Hawaii. Summers were spent fishing, playing bridge and cribbage and relaxing in their trailer at Royal Lake. Bill retained his ties to the RCMP, actively participating in the RCMP Veterans' Association, "D" Division. He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus as part of his devotion to the Roman Catholic faith. Bill's family appreciates the kindness and care he received from Dr. David Breckman, the home care helpers and the staff on the third floor of Grace Hospital, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace General Hospital Foundation or another appropriate charity. Born in Bras d'Or, Earl was the son of the late Robert and Ethel Reid. Earl was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was employed as a mechanic with the City of Sydney, Public Works Department for 33 years. Earl enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was an avid player of horseshoes and won many championships throughout Cape Breton and Nova Scotia. Also, Earl loved baseball where he was known for his umpire skills. Earl is survived by his loving children, Jeannie (George) MacPherson and Earl (Evelyn); along with his grandchildren, Kari and Allana MacPherson, Robert, Mark and Jennifer Reid. He will also be missed by his great-grandson, Dawson, his pride and joy. Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by his wife, Allie (Black), his brother, Robert and special sister, Alice MacKinnon. Visitation will take place Tuesday, June 21 at the S.W. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Anna Belle (Marsh) Razzolini. Ardua was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard. She was predeceased by her husband, John Anthony Kalbhenn, sons, Ludwig Jerome, Milton John and Manfred Augustus, sisters, Revolta Bois D'Enghien (her twin) and Gladys (P. Muise). She is sadly missed by her son, Joseph Rudolph (Ellen), Foymount, Ont.; daughter, Anna Beatrice Roach (Peter), New Waterford; two brothers, Dante, Pembroke, Ont., Esperando (Marie), Dartmouth, N.S.; sister, Beatrice (A. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Arthur and Saydy (Patterson) Reeves. He and his brothers owned and operated A.E. Reeves & Sons and later was employed with Levatte's, until his retirement. Edwin was a member of the Sydney Lions Club. He was an assistant teacher for the Dale Carnegie Course. Edwin enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Edwin is survived by his loving wife, Eugenia 'Jeni'; his two sons, Darryl (Donna) Reeves, Sydney, George (Stephanie) Reeves, Halifax; daughter-in-law, Sheila Reeves, Sydney. He is also survived by a sister, Jean Travis, Montana; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Beverley Jean in infancy, son, Kenneth Milton Reeves, grandson, Jason Reeves, sister, Georgie, brothers, John, Weldon and Roy. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a late date.
