Louis 'Louie' MacDonald Julia Ann Gwynn Mary 'Catherine' Mac Kenzie Wanda Buffett Frederick 'Fred' Gouthro Joseph Rambeau ******************************************************************************************************* Louis 'Louie' MacDonald Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Littleton, Massachusetts, United States Passed Away On: 01/06/2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louie MacDonald of Littleton, Mass. on June 1, 2011. Louie was born in Sydney and lived on Atlantic Street (now Colby) in his younger years. He was predeceased by his parents, Norma and Clarence MacDonald. Although Louie lived in the U.S. for many years he returned for many summer vacations to his Cape Breton home, which he loved so dearly. He was at his happiest playing cards and telling stories with his friends and family. He is survived by his loving and devoted children, daughter, Stacie (Sean) and grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and MacKenzie; son, Scott (Nicole) and grandchildren, Zachary and Alexa, all of Littleton. His sister, Dolores 'Dodie' (Ken) Coombs of Sydney; also aunts and cousins and a special uncle, Bernie Landry and wife, Gayle, who dropped in for a visit every spring on their way back from Florida to Sydney. Funeral arrangements took place in Littleton. **************************************** Julia Ann Gwynn Born In: South Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 06/12/1922 Passed Away In: South Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 05/06/2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Julia Ann (Dixon) Gwynn at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil's Harbour on June 5, 2011. Born at South Harbour, N.S., Dec. 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Alex L. and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Dixon. Mom was a dedicated, caring and compassionate wife and mother. She was a homemaker all her life devoted to raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom spent her leisure time enjoying her favourite pastime quilting and knitting, which she was very talented at. She was also an avid card player, particularly many great games of 58. She loved being outdoors tending to her plants, picking berries and spending time at her and Dad's favourite place, Black Brook. Mom is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Alex) MacEachern, Baddeck, Rose Rambeau, Smelt Brook, Myrtle (Vince) Galati, Ontario, Colleen (Cecil) Dunphy, Ingonish, Jacqueline (Max) Fraser, Middle River; son, Bernard (Giselle) Gwynn, South Harbour; daughter-in-law, Vera Gwynn; son-in-law, Ralph Williams. Nanny also leaves behind 30 loving grandchildren, 39 adorable great-grandchildren; brothers, Bart Dixon, Ontario, and Fr. Omar Dixon, SFM, Brazil; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, Anthony Paul Gwynn (2001), her daughter, Margaret, her son, Clifford, brothers, Thomas and James and a sister in infancy. In honoring Mom's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph's Parish Church, Dingwall on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. Everyone is welcome to join us for a reception at the church following the service. Private interment in the parish cemetery. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.fillmoreandwhitman.com ***************************************** Mary 'Catherine' Mac Kenzie Born On: 07/06/1917 Passed Away On: 05/06/2011 Our dear precious mother, surrounded by the loving embrace of her devoted family, passed into the arms of our Blessed Lord on Ascension Sunday, June 5, 2011. Our kind gentle mother, Catherine, was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Mac Intyre) Mac Farlane of South West Margaree. Born on June 7, 1917 she was destined to celebrate her 94th birthday in Heaven with the Church Triumphant. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband Frank on Oct. 26, 1971; her son Robert on Nov. 26, 2004; and her son Gerard on April 22, 2011 (44 days earlier). She was also predeceased by her brothers Archie (Sadie) - Sydney, Malcolm - South West Margaree, Dan (Liz) - Kentville, and Jimmy (in infancy), and by her sister Margaret (Barney) Ficociello - Woburn, MA. She is survived by her four children -Anne (Elmer) Syms, Joseph Mac Kenzie, Mary (Peter) Bren, and Hector (Meryl) Mac Kenzie and daughters-in-law - Lorene Mac Kenzie and Mary Mac Kenzie. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Ma, a lady of great faith and devotion to Our Lord and His Blessed Mother, was a member of the Catholic Women's League for approximately 50 years. As a lady of grace and dignity she was also a staunch supporter of the Gaelic culture being a fluent speaker, writer, and reader of the language. In 1973 she graduated from Xavier College with a diploma in Gaelic teaching, a certification put to use in the education of many young people in the Gaelic language. She was also a strong supporter of the Gaelic society and an active member of the Gaelic choir at its inception and for several years thereafter. In earlier years she was also a member of Saint Theresa's choir. Visitation for our darling mother, Catherine, will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at TW Curry Funeral Home, 755 George St., Sydney, N.S. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Saint Theresa's Church with Father Bill Crispo, Father Jim Oliver, Father Martin Mc Dougall, Father Everett Mac Dow, and Father Dan Bastarache concelebrating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks immediately following the Eucharistic celebration. She was the daughter of Alex and Eunice (MacNeil) Robinson. Wanda was a giving and loving soul who gave all she could to help those in need. Her contagious laughter will be missed by all who knew her. She was an employee of Sobey's, North Sydney for the past 27 years. Born in North Sydney on April 30,1952, he was the son of the late Martin amd Mary Gouthro of Frenchvale. Fred will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Brenda (Marsh) Gouthro; his daughters, Donna (Shaun) McGean, Tracey (Billy) MacDonald and his grandchildren, Shaun D., Ella, Mary and Charlie Beth. Also surviving are his twin brother, Thomas (Peggy) Gouthro and sisters, Regina Cann (Cecil Parsons), Martina Donovan and Mildred MacKinnon. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Boutilier and many nieces and nephews. At his request, there will be no visitation. Born in Smelt Brook, Joseph was the son of the late George and Alice (Theriault) Rambeau. He was a hard working man, who aside from driving a school bus for 28 years, made a living on the water. If he wasn't on it, he was thinking about it one way or another. Joseph was a "jack of all trades" who took great love in trying to solve everyone's problems. He was a man who lived everyday doing something for his family and friends. No words can describe what a wonderful and loving husband he was to his wife, Anne (Dixon); and father to his sons, Andy (Gloria) and Joey (Tena) of Smelt Brook, Alan (Gloria) South Harbour; as well as daughters, Joanne (Eddy Fitzgerald) and Andrea (George Fitzgerald), Cape North. Joseph loved his 17 grandchildren dearly and always tried to cherish every moment he had with them. He will also be sadly missed by his sister, Susan (Douglas) Briand, Smelt Brook; brothers William, Smelt Brook and Frankie (MaryAnne) of Eastern Passage; goddaughter, Janice Hayden; daughter-in-law; Kimberly Cameron; and his many special nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by brothers, Francis, Stephen, Peter, sister, Margaret, as well as sister-in-law, Delphina Rambeau and brother-in-law, George Fitzgerald. Visitation for Joseph Rambeau was held Monday, June 6 in St Joseph's Church, Dingwall, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The family invites all to come and celebrate Joe's life today (Tuesday) at 2:30 pm. in St. Joseph's Church, with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. The burial will be in the parish cemetery.
