Mrs. Eaves, a daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth (Munroe) Gosbee, was born in New Waterford, N.S. She grew up and received her education in New Waterford and has lived in Watertown, Mass., since 1963. She was the beloved wife of the late John R. Eaves, Sr.; devoted mother of Leona F. Pooley and her husband David, Cincinnati, Ohio, John R., Jr. and his wife Lucy, Watertown, Mass., and the late Thomas A. Eaves, who died Nov. 30, 2010; dear sister of the late Beatrice Hall, Alonzo Gosbee and Percy Gosbee; and loving grandmother of David Pooley and his wife Debra, John Pooley and Michael Pooley. She is also survived by nephew, Raymond (Cecilia) Gosbee, River Ryan; nieces, Ruth Burchell, New Victoria, Elizabeth (William) Porquet, New Waterford, Margaret Sweet, Marjorie (David) Patry, both of Maine. Visitation will be held Friday, June 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with her son, Thomas, at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral service will take place Saturday, June 11 at 2 p.m. in Calvin United Church with Rev, Nancy Whitney-Latham officiating. Hazel's remains will be taken to the church at noon on Saturday. Burial will follow the funeral service in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvin United Church, New Waterford. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca. **************************************** Thomas Alonzo Eaves Born In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States Passed Away On: 30/11/2010 Thomas Alonzo Eaves, 60, a resident of Watertown, for a good part of his life, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 30, 2010, in the Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, after a sudden illness. He was born in New Waterford, N.S., and his family moved to Watertown, Mass., when he was 14 years old. He was a graduate of Watertown High School and had worked as a stock clerk for several businesses in the area. Mr. Eaves was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Pequossette Aerie 1928, in Watertown. He was a the beloved son of the late Hazel M. (Gosbee) Eaves and John R. Eaves, Sr.; brother of Leona F. Pooley and her husband David Pooley, Cincinnati, Ohio, and John R. Eaves, Jr. and his wife Lucy M. Eaves, Watertown; and uncle of David (Debra) Pooley, John Pooley and Michael Pooley, all of Ohio. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Oakley and Josephine (Lukow) Hill. In his younger years, he was employed as a truck driver. He was known as a kind and friendly person, who will be missed by all who knew him. Lionel is survived by his brother, Basil (Martha) Hill, Sydney, their children, Stephen, Amanda and Christopher; his daughter, Lisa, Sydney Mines, and grandson, Brandon. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Josephine (Elliot). Cremation has taken place. Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Lillian (Poirier) LeBlanc. Pauline, a devout Catholic, was a member of the former Mount Carmel Church, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. She was employed at the G.I. Plant in Sydney for two years and then with St. Agnes Convent for 25 years. Pauline enjoyed exercising at Curves and more recently at The Loop in New Waterford. She was a loving and giving person with strong faith who truly believed that family comes first. Pauline received great pleasure out of cooking for family and friends during their many gatherings. She was especially known for her baking skills and would often bake for various family events. Her kindness and love was greatly appreciated by all who knew her. Surviving are daughter, Dauphine (Michael) Campbell; grandchildren Michella, Brent and Kylee, Manitouwadge, Ont.; sister-in-law, Louise Dobbin, Dartmouth; niece, Shauna (Pat) Berrigan, Dartmouth; nephew, Steven (Jennifer) Syms, Cambridge, Ont.; cousin and best friend, Eileen Roach, New Waterford. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Edward. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 12 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.vjmcgillivray.ca ****************************************** Patrick 'Pat' MacMillan Passed Away In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 08/06/2011 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Patrick 'Pat' MacMillan, 89, of Northside Guest Home, formerly of 571 King St., New Waterford, on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at the Northside Guest Home. Born in Scotchtown, Sept. 24, 1921, he was a son of the late John Daniel and Grace (Cherry) MacMillan. Pat was a member of the former Mount Carmel parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. In his early years he picked coal at the Summit for his father's coal hauling business. He worked in No. 16 colliery for 22 and a half years and left there to do construction as a carpenter and then to do maintenance work at the trade school in Point Edward. Upon retirement he continued to do the things he loved such as, camping, playing pool, watching boxing, woodworking, planting flowers and caring for his property. Pat was a veteran of the Second World War, a third degree honorary lifelong member of 3209 KOC in New Waterford, a member of branch 12 legion in Sydney, a former member of Local 1588 Carpenter's Union and of the New Waterford Pensioners' Club. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 63 years, Mary Irene (Hervé) MacMillan, RN; three sons, Pat (Betty Anne), Lingan, Hervé (Margaret Ann), Mexico, Alexis John (Maribeth), Phillipines; grandchildren, Jennifer (Donnie) Hutchings, Sydney, Janis (Tim) Dimond, Alberta, Irene Alexis (Keith) Boutilier, New Waterford, and Alexis John, Phillipines; great-grandchildren, Parker and Pierce Hutchings and Alexis Erica Boutilier; brother, William (Dolores) MacMillan, Ontario; sister-in-law, Ellen MacMillan, New Glasgow; many nieces and nephews. James was born in Inverness on Jan. 21, 1937, he was the son of the late James and Christina (MacDonald) Campbell of Little Judique and lived all of his life in Red Islands. He worked on his property and local jobs in the area. James attended Johnstown Academy and was a kind, generous and religious man. James had many friends and enjoyed music and loved to sing, read and draw. He is survived by his only sister, Kay, with whom he resided, as well as many cousins and friends. Resting in Sacred Heart Church, Johnstown, Friday from 10 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 11 a.m., with Rev. Joe Gillis presiding, burial to follow in the parish cemetery. His loving wife of 43 years, Gwendolyn M. (Ross) MacLean, died on January 3, 2011. He leaves two daughters, Kimberly S. MacKoul and her husband, Michael of Millbury, Mass. and Jennifer L. Elwell and her husband, David of Auburn, Mass.; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Ryan MacKoul and Heather and Samuel Elwell; a sister, Mary Turner of Lancaster, Mass.; two brothers, John MacLean and his wife, Ann, of Trenton, Ont. and Kenneth MacLean and his wife, Judith, of Lancaster, Mass.; many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert MacLean, who died in 2009. John was born and raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, the son of John W. and Johnetta (Johnston) MacLean. He was a graduate of Morrison Glace Bay High School. In 1958, he relocated to Clinton, Mass. For 34 years, John was the co-owner and co-operator of Res-Tech Corp., retiring in 2010. He was a member of the PAV and the Clinton Turn Verein, and a former member of the Society of Plastics Engineers. Especially proud of his Scottish heritage, he was delighted to be a 2008 recipient of the Clinton Leprechaun Society's Shillelagh Award. Per John's request, services and burial are private. She was born June 24, 1942, in Miller's Passage, Nfld., to the late George and Olive (Stone) Lawrence. She is survived and loved with all our hearts by her husband of 46 years, Alex Storm, Louisbourg; her daughter, Phyllis B., Parrsboro; son, Edward C. (Kate Gillis), Bedford; son, Jason (Chantal Ouellette), Orleans, and sons, Morgan, Louisbourg and Julian R. (Sandra Holloway), Dominion. Emily was a proud grandmother to Chloe, Mylene, Madison and step-grandson, Nicholas. She loved her family and friends immensely, was noted for her culinary skill and enjoyed reading, politics and the ancient craft of bobbin lace making, teaching this craft to many, including costumed staff of Fortress Louisbourg. She will be missed by all. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Phillip G. Lawrence (September 2006), (Judy). Her surviving siblings are sister, Alice Balcom (John), Newcombville and brother, Jonathan Lawrence (Cathy) Louisbourg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Emily attended the Empire Business College, Sydney. In her early career she worked for the Workman's Compensation Board and later she worked as a private secretary at Fortress Louisbourg. A dedicated hard worker she also co-owned and operated The Atlantic Statiquarium, Marine Museum in Louisbourg. Visitation for Emily will take place Friday June 10, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday June 11, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home 564 Alexandra St. Sydney.
