Lucille MacLeod Frances 'Bibby' Lafford Etta MacNeil Adolf Wawer (Wawrzynczyk) ******************************************************************************************************* Lucille MacLeod Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Donkin, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 25/06/2011 It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Lucille MacLeod, on Saturday June 25, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John Archie and Christine Margaret (MacPherson) MacLeod. Lucille was a nurse and was employed at the Isaac Walton Children's Hospital, Halifax until her retirement. She is survived by her sister, Lynda Dale MacLeod (Jo Bissell), Sanford, North Carolina; brother, Donald ( Margaret) MacLeod, Mira; sister-in-law, Alice MacLeod, Port Morien; as well as her nieces and nephews; her special niece, Amy (Terry) O'Keefe, Port Morien, who have been her guardian angels for the past several years. Besides her parents, Lucille, was predeceased by her sister, Annie Margaret MacLeod; brothers, Archabald MacLeod and Clifford MacLeod. As per her wishes there will be no services. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in Lucille's memory can be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of... **************************************** Frances 'Bibby' Lafford Born In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 26/06/2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frances. She passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Frances was born in Sydney, a daughter of the late Neil J. and Ellen (Boutilier) MacLean. Frances worked for many years at Crowell's clothing store on Charlotte Street. She retired at the tender age of 73 when Crowell's finally closed its doors for good. She was a very religious and spiritual person, who regularly attended daily masses at St. Theresa's Church when she was able to. Frances loved to cook and bake, and always shared it graciously with her friends and relatives. They all knew that there would be some treats waiting for them when they dropped by. She was known for her baked donations to the annual St. Theresa's C.W.L. fall fair. Frances was predeceased by her husband Charles Blair Lafford in from St. Peters, Cape Breton, who passed away in 1967 and is survived by her son, Blair (Wendy). Frances is also survived by her brother, Edward 'Teddy' and Rita MacLean, Kitchener, Ontario and one sister-in-law, Betty MacLean, Sydney. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Wallace 'Hoppy', Leonard 'Lenny', Hector 'Hecky', and Alfred 'Alfie' and sisters, Kate Fitzgerald, Louise Higgans, Helen Richardson, Mary 'Bap' Neville, Annie 'Lou' Tobin and Christina 'Teenie' MacDonald. Many thanks go out to the staff in the Spanish Bay Unit at the Cove Guest Home where Frances resided for the past 15 months. Frances's wishes were that there be no visitation, her remains have been cremated. There will be a mass held at St. Theresa's Church on Wednesday, June 29 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow at St. Theresa's Parish Centre. Memorial donations may be made to St. Theresa's Church. Etta passed peacefully with family by her side after a courageous year long battle with cancer. She is survived by the love of her life and best friend of 52 years, Vincent; daughters, Celia, Frances (Steven), Sharon (Paul); and son, Douglas (Debi); granddaughters, Erica and Rachel; adopted granddaughters, Kelsey, Elle and Bailey (David and Trina); grandsons, Blake and Wade; nieces, Marianne and Michele; and the extended Frioult family. Etta's uniqueness was the interest she took in everyone and how special she made us feel. She loved her family and was happiest when everyone was home. Etta formed wonderful friendships and treasured every one of them. She took great pleasure hosting events, cooking and entertaining. There was always room for one more at Etta's table. Etta died as she lived, with dignity and grace, surrounded by people she loved. Throughout her illness many people provided love and support. This made us strong then and will continue to do so during our time of loss. She will be surely missed. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 15 at the S.W. Online condolences may be sent to our web page at www.chantfuneralhome.com. **************************************** Adolf Wawer (Wawrzynczyk) Born In: Katowice, Poland Passed Away In: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 24/06/2011 Adolf passed away peacefully June 24, 2011 In Northwood Guest Home, Halifax. Born in Katowice, Poland, the eldest of five children, he was the son of the late Victor and Barbara (Sierny) Wawrzynczyk. Torn from his family and studies at the age of 17, he was taken POW by the Russians and sent to the Siberian camps. He was later released to the British and then fought alongside them in the North African and Italian campaigns as part of the Polish second corp. At the end of WW2 he finished his studies in Chemical Engineering in Bologna, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1947 as part of a relocation program for Polish veterans. His first work in Canada was as a laborer on farms in Manitoba. He then resided in Winnipeg where he met and married Krystyna Jarzabek. He worked his way from lumberjack all the way up to Corporate Technical Director of the St Anne Pulp and Paper Companies that were owned by Parsons and Whittemore. He had a keen interest in the development of pollution control technologies for the paper industry. His ability to speak seven languages was a great asset in dealing with his international clients. He resided in Nackawic, NB until his retirement, whereupon he moved to Dartmouth, NS to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He spent his life taking care of not only his family in Canada, but his brothers and sisters in Poland. His commitment to their care during the difficult years of communist rule in Poland was greatly valued. He will always be remembered for his kindness and his generosity. He was an active member of both his Polish and Canadian communities. He had a special interest in the Polish Combatants Association (SPK). He never forgot his roots. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Krystyna, Halifax; his sister Magda Woznica, Poland; his children; Dr. Maria Wawer, and son-in-law, Dr. Ronald Gray, Baltimore; Dr. Ursula (Robert) Coffin, Bedford; Dr. Andrew (Karen) Wawer; and his beloved grandchildren, Alexander, Max and Elzbieta Wawer. He was predeceased by his brothers Alek and Ireneusz his sister Ella; and his sister-in-law, Halla, Poland. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be held at St Thomas Moore church, 1 Kuhn Drive, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia at 11a.m. on July 1, 2011. A reception hosted by the Catholics Women League will be held in the church hall following.
