He was a son of the late Molly and John Gillis. He will be sadly missed by sons, Peter, Patrick and siblings Brian, Brenda, Linda, Neil, Kevin, Beverly, Billy and Russell. **************************************** This is the obit written and presented by Pete's boys, PJ and Patrick and his sister Bev. Eulogy of Peter Gillis Peter Gillis was born on Nov 17, 1939 the first son to Molly and John Gillis in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. Peter was later joined with siblings, Brian, John, Brenda, Linda, Neil, Kevin, Beverly, Bill, Russell and then Gary. All of these people are in here in spirit if not in body. I guess you could call me the token representative. Peter escaped at a very young age to join the armed services which became a life long career. He met the first love of his life while stationed in the Queen Charlottes back in 1967 and I don't mean the legion. The legion came in after his family and his beloved Max of course. Lil and Pete met and fought and loved and eventually got married in October 1968. There goes Pete's theory that any woman dumb enough to marry him, was too dumb to marry. Peter & Lil remained married for 32 short years until Lil passed on. Don't believe all those stories Pete told you about all the other women he met and loved, Lil and I firmly believed that it was figment of his very vivid imagination. It is quite obvious that Lil smacked him a number of times for statements like that. Not only did he gain a wife, he gained his first son Sammy who unfortunately passed away at a very young age. Sammy was joined first with siblings Peter John otherwise known as PJ and Patrick Brian otherwise known as Pat. His sons were his pride and joy and if you know these men, you can tell through their generosity, sense of humor and story telling that they are indeed Peter's sons. He was known in Three Links Care Center as the only man who had pictures of his wife and his dog, he had no pictures of his sons. That does not mean that he did not love his sons but he really missed his dog. Even though Peter was born on the east coast of Canada, his heart belonged in Masset. One of Peter's favorite comments to Lil was - I don't know where you will be, but me and my pension are retiring to Masset. Peter was a fanatic about baseball often watching up to 9 hours a day when he could. The Blue Jays was really the only team he supported through the years and we all know he often lost large sums of money to his son Pat who bet against any team the Blue Jays were playing. Peter was generous to a fault and gave what-ever he could to anyone in need. For example, he gave generous donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, church, war amps, friends, family or those he considered family and always had enough left to buy the rounds at his beloved legion. I wish I could remember all the names of his friends at the Legion / Lions Club and his colleagues while doing his commissionaire work. We would now welcome any of his many friends who wish to to tell tales. From Peter, Patrick and myself thank you all for your support during the past few months, it was greatly appreciated. submitted by Muriel king <meank@bcsupernet.com>
