Brian John Gautier Born In: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 12/03/2011 It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Brian John Gautier, on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Edward and Marie (Baker) Gautier. Before his illness, he worked several years, as a crane operator at the finishing mill at Sydney Steel and later worked as a taxi driver with City Wide. Brian is survived by his partner and friend, Isabel 'Bell' MacNeil; his sons, Darin, Brian (Natasha); brothers, Larry (Valerie), Paul (Ann); sister, Rose Marie (Sandy) Stewart, and the light of his life, his two granddaughters, Irelyn and Shea-lyn. He is also survived by his extended family, Kim and Craig MacNeil; two nieces, Melanie and Bonnie; Heather Farrell, the mother of his children, Nena (Maxx) and grandson, Blayne; Sheldon (Terri Lynn), as well as his good friend, Snookey. The family would like to thank the palliative care unit for all their help and understanding. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service by request. Online condolences may be sent to our web page at www.chantfuneralhome.com. ********************************* Danna Christine Mary LeDrew Born In: Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 17/06/1944 Passed Away In: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 11/03/2011 After a valiant fight, Danna Christine Mary LeDrew, of Sydney, N.S., passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit on March 11, 2011. Born June 17, 1944, she was a beloved daughter of the late Adam Hummel, and her beloved and surviving mother, Barbara Rorison. Danna is survived by her son, Wesley, his wife Anna, and grandson, Cody in Richmond, B.D.; and her daughter, Leah, and her husband David in Toronto, Ont. She is also survived by one sister, Laurie Lee; and two brothers, Jon Hummel and Don Rorison, in British Columbia. A lifelong employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia, Danna spent her well-earned retirement years engaging in her favourite artistic pursuits, and socializing with a vast network of old and new-found friends. There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. LeDrew, interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. It was Danna's wish that memorial donations be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation Cancer Centre Patient Fund. As Danna has touched so many lives as she has taken this journey, we will be accepting visitors into her home to celebrate a truly inspirational woman of tremendous spirit. Guests are welcome at 114 Christopher Cres. on Saturday, March 19, 2011, between the hours of 2-4:30 p.m. ********************************* Russell Gouthro Born In: Nova Scotia, Canada Born On: 21/08/1921 Passed Away In: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 14/03/2011 It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Russell Gouthro of Dominion, announce his passing Monday, March 14, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Gardiner Mines, Aug. 21, 1939, Russell was the son of the late John Joe and Lib Gouthro. Until his retirement, Russell worked in the parts department of various Sydney car dealerships and made many friends through his working career. He was a "jack-of-all-trades" and was always there whenever anyone needed a helping hand. Russell is survived by his wife of 50 years, Queenie (Tomiczek); and his three daughters, Judi Gouthro, Dominion, Elizabeth Sammon, Glace Bay, and Meg (David) Ellsworth, Dominion. Papa loved his grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments. He will be missed by Katie, Daniel, Kat, Jill, Dylan and Julia. Russell is also survived by his brothers, Doug, Gordie and Greg; as well as his sisters, Irene, Sister Paul Marie, Betty, Linda, Donna and Claire; along with many brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Russell was predeceased by his only son, Paul in December 2010 and by brothers, Kenny and Paul. In honouring Russell's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. Eugene's Church, Dominion, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall, all are welcome. He passed away on Monday, March 14, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Sydney Mines on June 19, 1942, he was the son of the late Edwin and Margaret (Rateau) Bailey. Claude was a coal miner at the age of 18. After that, he went on to become a wheelsman on the Great Lakes for 35 years with S.I.U. He was a devoted sailor. Claude was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Andrewlena 'Lee' (Bird) Bailey; sons, Hugh (Bonnie), Bruce (Wendy), Greg (Nancy) and daughter, Belinda Nicholson. Also left to mourn are his precious grandchildren, Greg (Candace), Ian (Agnieszka), Krystal (Francis), Nolan, Katie (Pacho), his little princess Lacey and his two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Emily, whom he loved dearly. Claude is also survived by his sisters, Barb (Dave) Martin and Sheila Luker; his brothers, Eddie (Ella) and John (Marlene); numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Claude was predeceased by his sister, Betty MacIntyre and his brothers, Joe and Henry. Claude's family would like to thank his first cousin, George Bailey, who was like a brother to him, for spending every day with Claude, at home and in the hospital. Eternity begins." ************************************ Murray 'Mackie' MacIntosh Born In: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 15/03/2011 Murray 'Mackie' MacIntosh, 75, of Sydney, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his family at his side, Tuesday March 15, 2011. Born in Sydney, he was the oldest son of the late Henry and Lillian (Gallivan) MacIntosh in a family of eight children. Mackie graduated from Sydney Academy in 1954 and then went to work as a linesman with Maritime Tel & Tel, where he stayed for a few years before gaining employment with the Sydney Police Department for 37 years working in various positions including the Identification Department and then as Staff Sergeant. In his earlier years, Mackie kept quite a busy schedule throughout the years, always finding time to work on various projects and try different hobbies. He hunted deer and moose in Newfoundland with his father and brothers, also supervised the building of 13 houses in the Sydney area, one of which his wife, Ada, still resides in. Mackie had a love of reading and especially enjoyed historical books. He had an advantage as his wife worked at McConnell Library for many years. Mackie also coached baseball and hockey teams with many championship teams to his credit. In the process he developed many longtime friendships. He is survived by his wife, Ada (Penny) and children, Mona, Bradley (Valerie) and Murray (Darlene); sisters, Norma (Doug) Woodill, Henrietta (Ralph) Johnston, Heather (George) Townsend; brothers, Sylvester (Barbara), John (Betty), Surrey, B.C. and William (Cathy), Louisbourg. Also survived by son-in-law, David Kedziora, Whitehorse; sisters-in-law, Betty MacIntosh, Connie Wolschlag, Florida, Eileen (Roddie) MacNeil, Debra (Jerry) Verwey, B.C. and Christina Jeune, B.C. Grandchildren include, Lindsay, Kelly, Ashley, Krysta, Keigan MacIntosh and Henry, Charles and Louis Kedziora, Whitehorse, Yukon. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Tom and Florence Matheson. Arthur was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, Sydney. He was Past Master of Sydney Lodge #84, past District Deputy Grand Master of Cape Breton Center District, he was a member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonary, Prince of Whales Chapter #10 and Cape Breton Preceptory and Philae Shriners. Arthur always made sure children did not go without and donated privately to the Every Woman's Centre, St. Andrew's United Church, YMCA, and many other local families and organizations. Arthur is survived and will be sadly missed by his family, Scott (Pamela) MacDonald, Shanice, Brady, Makayla, Jessie, Josie and a nephew, Robert 'Bob' Matheson. Besides his parents, Arthur was predeceased by a brother, Ballem Matheson and family. Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel, with a masonic service at 6:45 p.m. Funeral service will be Friday, March 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew's United Church with Rev.
