Alexander 'Odie' Maxwell Catherine 'Kay' Dawson Marie MacLellan Richard 'Graham' Walsh ******************************************************************************************************* Alexander 'Odie' Maxwell Born in: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 04/03/2011 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather, brother and friend, Odie Maxwell, age 75, on Friday, March 4, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Alexander and Caroline (Timbury) Maxwell. Odie was a coal miner for most of his life, working with Devco for 37 years. He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Ward, St. Catharines Ont.; sons, Lloyd and Erin both of North Sydney, his sisters, Alberta 'Bert' (Carl) MacKeigan, North Sydney and twin sister Caroline 'Girlie' MacKenzie, Leitches Creek; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as two special friends, Paula Cleveland and Cheryl Bradley. Also survived by his former wife Mae MacAulay Odie will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Audrey MacLean; son Alex; daughter Shannon Gale; sister Anna; and brothers Danny, Ken, George and Van. Visitation for Odie will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, from the funeral home chapel, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of... ********************************* Richard 'Graham' Walsh Born on: 22/01/1925 Passed away on: 04/03/2011 A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and uncle, Graham Walsh, 86, died at home on March 4th, 2011. He showed strength and love right up until his last days with us. A devoted family man, Graham leaves behind his wife Sadie (MacVarish) the love of his life for fifty nine years and their four children, Linda (Joseph) MacNeil, Richard (Eveline Schombara) Walsh, Wendy (Dave) Rumbles and Martin (Heather Estey) Walsh. He gave us the kind of love that is unconditional, unshakable and unquestionable. Through his quiet strength and loving ways he has helped mold us into a close and loving family. He was truly proud of his children and grandchildren, Lachlann, Adam, Terrance, Cristina and Jarrett. We thank him for loving us, allowing us to love him and for always being there for us. We are proud to be his children and grandchildren. He will always be with us in our hearts as we know we are with him in his. Graham is also survived by his sister, Janet (Nanna) Bearnes. Graham is a proud veteran of WWII. Joining at the age of 17, he served for several years, 1944-1946, in Europe where he was wounded numerous times, earning several medals. For 43 years he worked on the Steel Plant, doing a variety of jobs. He retired from his position as foreman of the Heavy Equipment Mobile Division; a job which suited his strong work ethic and his natural mechanical ability. It was at this time that he took up golf and curling. Many at Seaview will remember seeing Graham and his buddies traveling around on the "Hooterville Trolley." He was known and liked by many. Graham is the son of the late Thomas and Kathleen (James) Walsh of Inglis Street. He was predeceased by granddaughter Marissa, brothers, Patrick, Charles, Thomas, Kenneth; sisters, Theresa, Alice James, Marge MacPherson, Bessie Baker, Mary Mercer, Helen MacLean and Madeline MacKinnon. Graham Walsh has left behind a wonderful legacy of love. He will walk with us forever. You are our hero! Visitation will be held Monday March 7, 2011 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday March 8, 2011 at St. Theresa's Church, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception to follow in the funeral home reception area. Interment to take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
