Donald Joseph Morrison Antoinette 'Toni' MacInnis Clarence Darroch Neil 'Bob' Bennett Harriet Doyle Annie Wilson Jesse William Reid ******************************************************************************************************* Donald Joseph Morrison Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 28/02/2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Donald Joseph Morrison. Donnie passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at his residence in Glace Bay, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Donald and Marguerite (Martell) Morrison, and was a former resident of Blackett Street, Glace Bay. Donnie received his schooling in Glace Bay and furthered his education at Acadia University, where he attained his masters in mathematics, Dalhousie University and UCCB. Donnie was a teacher at Morrison High for many years until he went to Glace Bay High as vice principal, he also taught night school in Glace Bay and for the last number of years he tutored many students in mathematics. Donnie was a member of The Tyrian Youth Masonic Lodge No. 45, having served as master in 1977, secretary treasurer of the board of trustees of The Tyrian Youth Masonic Lodge No. 45; a member of the Cape Breton Lodge of Perfection; a member of the Isle Royal Chapter Rose Croix; a member of the Nova Scotia Sovereign Consistory and a member of Philae Temple of The Shrine. Donnie was a very likable person who friends enjoyed spending time with, especially when they were having trouble solving a mathematical problem. He also enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzle books and for the past 10 years making crafts, which he and his wife Winnie would sell from their kiosk to passengers from the cruise ships in Sydney. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Winnie (Gouthro); father in-law, Hugh Gouthro Sr., Port au Port, N.L.; sisters-in-law, Anne (Terry) Penny, Port au Port, N.L., Mary (David) Achorn, Lawrencetown, N.S., Kathy (Ron) Wheeler, Cambridge, Ont.; brother in-law, Hugh Gouthro Jr., Edmonton, Alta.; uncle, Harold Ulmer, Alberta; aunt, Jean Morrison, Sydney, N.S.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Donnie was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Catherine Martell, paternal grandparents, Anges and Sadie Morrison, parents, Donald and Marguerite Morrison and mother-in-law, Florence Gouthro. Visitation will be held Friday, March 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, with a Masonic service to be held Friday evening at 6:45 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated Saturday at 2 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donnie's memory may be made to the Glace Bay High School Scholarship Fund; the Glace Bay Food Bank or a charity of one's choice. Online condolences to the family are available through www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ********************************* Antoinette 'Toni' MacInnis Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Steele's Hill, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 27/02/2011 It is with deepest sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Antoinette 'Toni' MacInnis on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Kate (Chisholm) Stanley. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church. She worked for CARA Operations (airport) for a number of years and retired from the Breton Bay Nursing Home. She enjoyed sharing her love of cooking and baking with her family, friends and the St. Ann Sodality Ladies Auxiliary - which she held very dear to her heart. Toni will be sadly missed by so many friends that loved her dearly; she enjoyed every moment she spent at the 45s table; her Saturday nite 'bunkino'; not to forget the trips to the Casino. Left to mourn is her daughter, Susan (Joss); sons, Johnny and Stevie (Cathy); brother, Cletus (Mary) Stanley; sister, Emily (Leo) Landry; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John 'Geezer', daughter, Betty, brothers, Leo, Edgar, Normie, Alex, Frankie, and Herbie, sisters, Anna, Marjorie, Alice and Madaline. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Curry's Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held Friday, 11 a.m. in St. Anthony's Church with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Email condolences to jmcurry@ns.sympatico.ca. ********************************* Clarence Darroch Born in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 28/02/2011 It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Clarence Darroch, 74, of New Waterford, on Feb. 28, 2011 at home. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Cameron and Marguerite (Mason) Darroch. Clarence worked at Nos. 16, 12, 26 and Lingan collieries for 36 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Army, Navy, Airforce for many years and enjoyed playing darts and camping in Cheticamp with his family during the summer months. Surviving are daughters, Brenda (Jimmy Swartzack) Darroch, Wanda Darroch and Deborah Sullivan, all of Glace Bay; brothers, Camey, New Waterford, Blair (Rita), Sydney; sisters, Doreen, New Waterford, Dale (Wayne) Ralston, Connecticut; many nieces and nephews; two grandchildren, Shaun Darroch and Cory Sullivan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Eileen (MacNeil) Darroch. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Monday, March 7 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Wilson Avenue, New Waterford. Born in Sydney, N.S., Bob was the son of the late Neil Gregory and Mary Teresa (Antle) Bennett. Bob was an avid golfer with a passion for reading and music. He dedicated himself to public service for over 30 years. He was a devoted father and grandfather. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. ********************************** Harriet Doyle Born in: Barra Head, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Chapel Island, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 26/02/2011 It is with great sadness that we have to announce the peaceful passing of Harriet Mary Doyle, 87, of Chapel Island, that occurred at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston on Feb. 26, 2011, with her family and friends by her side, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Barra Head, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Bridget (Stevens) Battiste. Harriet attended Shubencadie Indian residential school for 10 years as many Mikmaw children did at that time. She was a strong and caring woman. She believed in family, and loved her community of Potlotek. She travelled and made many pilgrimages to St. Anne de Beaupre for healing, and was devoted to St. Anne and Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. She looked forward to participating in the St. Anne mission every summer in Chapel Island where she was able to visit with family and friends where she felt the peace that St. Ann brings to those who attend the mission. She held the honour of washing the Statue of St. Anne and held that role with much love and devotion. She belonged to the Chapel Island Rosary Group and provided much prayers for others in time of need. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Barra Head. In 1955, she made a pilgrimage to Medjejourie with the members of her community and made several long time friends. Harriet had a great sense of humour. She was dignified and caring, earning the love and respect of family and friends. She had a talent for gardening which was evident every year. She believed in living life to the fullest. She enjoyed playing cards when she attended bingo and made many friends. She loved to cook and bake. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Stephen King novels in particular. She followed world events very closely. She also loved to sew and make clothes. She enjoyed watching Indian hockey and baseball and enjoyed attending PowWows in Unamaki. Harriet is survived by daughters, Patti Doyle Bedwell (George), Halifax, and Helen Doyle (Peter), Chapel Island; granddaughter, Hannah; grandsons, Michael, Noah and great-grandson, Austin. She is also survived by her godchildren, Bridget Elaine Paul, Eskasoni and Russell Battiste, Potlotek; sister, Mary Rose Gould, Membertou. She is also survived by a large family of nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Doyle; grandson, Joshua; brothers, Stephen and John; sisters, Isabel, Theresa, Mary Ann, Mary. On Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 6 p.m. in honouring Harriet's wishes, she will rest at the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Chapel in Chapel Island. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Barra Head. Cremation to follow. Burial will be held in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery, Barra Head at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to C.H. Boudreau Funeral Home, Arichat. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John Roach and Annie (MacInnis) Roach. She is survived by her loving children, sons, Darryl (Joy), Sydney River, Kirk, Houston, Texas; daughter, Shauna (Paul Oldford), Glace Bay; grandchildren, Lara (Ryan), Erin, Paul (Denice), Nan, Annie Beth and Daniel, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by sister, Catherine Shea and brothers, Glen (Jean) Roach and Charles (Margaret) Roach, sister-in-law, Carrie Roach and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, 'Woodie' in June, 2010 and sisters; Annie Stacia and Catherine Elizabeth in childhood and brothers, John, Duncan, William and Daniel and daughter-in-law, Eileen (Hull). She was employed as an operator/supervisor with Maritime Tel & Tel prior to becoming a full time mother to her family. She was a member of Knox United Church, the United Church Women and the Jubilee Rebekah Lodge. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place at Knox United Church, Commercial Street, Glace Bay on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Findlayson and Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Emily Elizabeth Reid (Chafe). He will be dearly missed by his seven children, Pauline Reid (grandchildren, Boyd, Brandon and Halie), Carol Ann Reid (grandchild Christopher and three great-grandchildren), Philip Reid (grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha and Jeremy and three great-grandchildren), Sarah Woodland (grandchildren, Paul and Brittany), Kathy Krasowski (grandchildren, Mitchel, Robyn and Emily), Jean Reid (grandchild, Julia), Linda Ryan (grandchildren, Ethan and Mya).
