Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Mary Katherine MacLean. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sydney, and a former member of St. Mary's Church, Big Pond, where she was raised, then moved to Sydney and worked as a housekeeper for many years. She will be remembered for her humbleness and kindness that she shared with all who new her. She is survived by a niece, Cathy (Rudy) Poitras, Maine; and a nephew, Michael (Cynthia) MacLean, New Hampshire; three great nephews and several cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Theresa MacLean and a brother, Michael MacLean. Visitation for Mary will be held Friday, March 18 from 11 a.m. until the funeral time at 12 p.m. both in St. Mary's Church, Big Pond, with Fr. Joe Gillis officiating. Gordon passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born Jan. 11, 1923, in Rose Blanche, N.L., he was the son of the late John Albert and Annie (Strickland) Parsons. For the greater part of his life, he was a resident of the town, a member of St. Anne's Church and a proud member of the Merchant Marines. In his earlier years Gordon fished on dragger boats out of Newfoundland, Louisbourg, Glace Bay and later worked in the fish processing plants for Highland and Clearwater Fisheries. He was a very quiet and soft-spoken family man who will be remembered for his sense of humour and his quick wit. In his spare time, Gordon enjoyed doing yard work and making to scale replicas of 'Newfoundland Boats' to give to family and friends. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Susan (MacDonald) Parsons; daughter, Margaret Ann (Andrew) MacDonald, Glace Bay; son, Duncan, at home; granddaughter, Nicole Parsons, Sydney; brothers, William (Anne), John (Mabel), Austin (Anne), all of Newfoundland, and Ron, Glace Bay; sisters, Susie (Hubert), Annie Mae (George), Milita, all of Newfoundland; nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by brothers, Clyde and Wilfred. In honoring Gordon's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral mass. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A private family interment with graveside prayers lead by Fr. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ********************************* Dolena 'Dolly' MacIsaac Born In: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away In: Nova Scotia, Canada Passed Away On: 15/03/2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, nanny, great nanny, and sister, Dolena 'Dolly' MacIsaac, 93, of Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay, and formerly of Lower Daley Road, New Victoria, on March 15, 2011, at Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Port Ban, Inverness County, she was a daughter of the late John Alex and Mary (MacDonald) Kennedy. Dolly was a member of the former St. Joseph Church in New Victoria. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage and enjoyed many facets of the culture. Fluent in Gaelic, she was also an accomplished highland dancer who danced at various parish picnics throughout the area in her early years. She always remained true to her roots and, in later years, learned how to play the fiddle and continued to follow the highland dancing and Scottish music scene. Her enthusiasm was eventually passed on to her succeeding family, many of whom are actively involved in highland dancing and playing the bagpipes. During her younger years Dolly loved to ski and drive her vehicle and continued to drive a car well into her 80s. Surviving are daughters, Diane (Dennis) Deveaux, Millie, both of New Waterford; sons, Alex (Deanna), Victoria Mines, Jack (Evelyn), New Glasgow; sisters, Madeline MacIsaac and Millie MacEachern, both of Inverness; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Dolly was predeceased by her husband, John Archie MacIsaac, four brothers, Dougall, Joe, Jack and Neil, three sisters, Kay Phillips, Sarah MacIsaac and Mary Margaret 'Mendy' MacIsaac. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Dolly will take place Friday, March 18 at 2 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. An avid skater and yoga practitioner who had a loving interest in people and helping those who were often challenged by what life had in store for them. Celina will always be remembered for her devotion and love of her family, especially her late husband, John. Born on Feb. 13,1916 in Harbor Breton, Nfld., Bessie was the daughter of the late Noami and Thomas Bungay. Mom was a woman who had deep faith in her God and was a devoted member of the Salvation Army Corps in Glace Bay. She worked diligently for the corps, always active in the Home League donating her beautiful crochet and knitted handiwork as well as cooking in the kitchen for the annual church suppers. Bessie will always be remembered as a genuine lady with a gentleness of spirit, love of family and friends, undying faith and quick wit. She was predeceased by her parents, husbands, Sydney Ferneyhough and George Ashe. She was also predeceased by her sister, Beatrice Porter; brothers, Bill and Max Bungay and stepson, Fred Ferneyhough. Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Annie Mae Knockwood. Mom had many friends and family and held a special place in her heart for all those she loved. She was a mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and she was also considered "Gram" to many of our friends. She loved life, enjoyed gardening, the beach, camping and she took pride in her cooking and loved doing crafts. Her passion for music was very apparent as she was married to two very well known fiddlers and you could always see her smiling listening to her favourite reels. Although we will miss her dearly, her spirit and memories will always be with us.
