Born in Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Emma (Miller) Hoelke. Ileen was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Albert Bridge. She is survived by sons, David (Helen), Albert Bridge, Eddie, Mt. Uniacke, Allan (Irene), Wolfville, Freddie, Mt. Uniacke; a sister, Ada Fischer; a brother, Arnold (Verna) Hoelke, both in Ontario; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A resident of Celtic Court, formerly of North Sydney, Rob was born in North Sydney. He was the only son of the late John Robert and Myrtle (Blagdon) Rideout. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, North Sydney, and in his younger years belonged to the St. John's Anglican Church Men's Club and coached for the North Sydney Little League Association. Rob owned and operated ESP Graphics Ltd. for 20 years before illness forced him to retire. Rob was an avid bowler, bowling in the Men's League, Pro League, and Friday Night Mixed Doubles. He is survived by his loving children, Crystal (Aaron) Fransen of Calgary, Darcy (Michelle) of Sydney, Travis (Katie) of Calgary; the mother of his children, Nonie Rideout of Banff; sisters, Colleen (Howard) Zawacki of Toronto, Roberta Rideout of North Sydney, Cynthia (Raymond) Burton of North Sydney; nieces, April (Chris) Coombs, Tosha Lee Rideout, Samantha Burton; nephews, Raymond Burton Jr. and John Robert (J.R.) Reid, 71, on Friday, March 11, 2011, at his home. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Francis and Mary (Aucoin) Reid. Tommy was an employee of Devco for 42 years. His pastimes included Saturday night dancing, Sunday drives, fixing cars and always being there to help others. He will be sadly missed by his wife, 'Girlie' (nee MacDonald); children, Francis (Cecilia), Tommy (Kim) and Lisa (Ernie) Jewells; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Winnie), Michael (Debbie) and Vernon (Linda); sisters, Vangie (Joe) and Leona (Tony). Born in Grand Falls, N.L., May 12, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Ella (Angel) March. Muriel was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed working with crafts, playing cards, bingo, music, dancing, playing the harmonica and accordion, as well as her pets, Rocky and Pebbles. Muriel opened her home and heart to many of her children's friends. She made them feel as if it was their home, and they loved her for this. Muriel will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Muriel is survived by her daughters, Diane (Harry) Healey, Sydney Mines, Jeanette Conway, North Sydney; son, Paul (Linda) Conway, Mount Uniacke; sisters, Sarah Burke, Montreal, Madeline March, North Sydney. Born in North Sydney, Dea was a daughter of the late Angus and Jane (MacNeil) Keagan. For many years she operated Reg F. MacNeil Agency, until her retirement. She was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with Canadian Women Army Corps., a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. She was volunteer with the #562 Cabot Squadron, Air Cadets, the Girl Guides and for 50 years with the Canadian Cancer Society. Dea was the first woman to serve as a town councillor for the Town of North Sydney. She was a proud supporter of the Cape Breton Liberal Association. In her younger years Dea enjoyed sports, being an active participant in hockey, baseball and bowling. Dea is survived by her two sisters, Anna McCarthy, North Sydney and Jean Stickley, Goose Bay, Labrador; sisters-in-law, Ethel and Sybil Anderson and Nora Keagan, all of North Sydney and by numerous nieces and nephews. Calvin was the son of the late Clarence Pottle and Martha (Clark) Pottle. Calvin was an employee of the CNR as a rail inspector. Upon his retirement he attended UCCB where he obtained a diploma in hospitality, which led him to the Keltic Lodge that held a special place in his heart. Calvin was a pure gentleman who always had a smile on his face. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf with his good friends. He will be missed by his good friends, Laddie and Shalene Sajatovich; his friend and neighbour, Tom Kauffman, whom he laughed with just about everyday, Gerry and Louise MacNeil, Diane Kendal, what wonderful neighbours you were. Michael was an oil burner mechanic by trade and for many years he worked for McPhee's Plumbing and Heating in Glace Bay. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing darts and was a member of several dart leagues in our local area. Etta passed peacefully with family by her side after a courageous year long battle with cancer. She is survived by the love of her life and best friend of 52 years, Vincent; daughters, Celia, Frances (Steven), Sharon (Paul); and son, Douglas (Debi); granddaughters, Erica and Rachel; adopted granddaughters, Kelsey, Elle and Bailey (David and Trina); grandsons, Blake and Wade; nieces, Marianne and Michele; and the extended Frioult family. Etta's uniqueness was the interest she took in everyone and how special she made us feel. She loved her family and was happiest when everyone was home. Etta formed wonderful friendships and treasured every one of them. She took great pleasure hosting events, cooking and entertaining. There was always room for one more at Etta's table. Etta died as she lived, with dignity and grace, surrounded by people she loved. Throughout her illness many people provided love and support. This made us strong then and will continue to do so during our time of loss. She will be surely missed. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Tuesday, March 15 at the S.W.
