Born Agnes Delores Campbell, March 30, 1927, in Victoria Mines, C.B., N.S., to the late Russell and Susan (White) Campbell. She is survived by siblings, Michael, Theresa, Rita, Dorothy, Evelyn Bernadette, Bernie, Fraser and Hilary. She was predeceased by brothers, Blaise, Donnie, Aloysius, Russell and two sisters, Alice and Susan in infancy. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Rev. Gregory MacKinnon, sister-in-law, Patricia MacNeil, and scores of nieces and nephews. Married in 1951 to the late William F. (Bill) MacKinnon, she is survived by their son, Bill (Eleanore), Hamilton; and daughters, Janet (Al), Calgary, Joan (Alfred), Halifax, Mary Pat (David), Ottawa, Fiona, Toronto, Susan (Thane), Fairmont, and Sine (Fred), Toronto. She has 18 grandchildren, Anna and Max Cameron, Mathieu, Emily and Susan Doucet, Katie, Ben and Leah Siversky, Jodi Adams, Brandon and Devin MacKinnon, Emma, Thomas and Sean Mungall, Thane Cameron and Andrea, Gillian and Aela Bever; and three great-grandchildren, Rosa, Sophia and Talia. Agnes was educated at Holy Angels High School in Sydney, and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1949. She taught at Notre Dame High School in Sydney Mines, where she also coached the boys hockey team. She returned to teaching at St. Andrew's Rural High School in Antigonish, where she taught from 1965 to 1990, earning the respect and affection of her students and colleagues. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering in the community and travelling. She was a woman of sharp wit, compassion and common sense who opened her home to all. People were drawn to Agnes for her sense of fun, discerning mind and genuine interest in people. She loved skating on the lake at Low Point, walking on Mahoney's Beach, and above all, she loved her friends and family. To the end, she was independent, engaged and enthusiastic about life. We shall miss her. The family would like to thank Gert, Mary and Debbie, and the wonderful staff at St. Martha's Hospital where she received superior care. The funeral will be held Saturday, March 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Ninian's Cathedral, Antigonish. He died at the palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness. He was born March 7, 1932, to Mary Belle (Lynk) and Harold Ley. After his mother died when he was a newborn he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Jane G. and John H. MacPherson in Donkin. He graduated from Morrison High School in 1951 and as a young adult he was a member of the sea cadets where he received many certificates. Carl worked at Devco for 38 years retiring in 1992 as manager of the Dominion Coal Yard. He was a member of Gordon United Church where he held many posts over the years including clerk of session. Carl was a life member of the Reserve Mines Volunteer Fire Department for 46 years during which time he held the positions of assistant secretary, lieutenant hook and ladder, treasurer and member of the executive. Carl's pastimes included playing cards, visiting the casinos, travelling with the family, crafts, sports (especially watching the Toronto Maple Leafs) and spending time with his family. He may be best remembered for his sense of humour. In his youth, Carl was an accomplished athlete in hockey and boxing. He is survived by his sons, Alan, with whom he resided, Dr. David (Ann); and daughter, Margo (Angus) Nicholson. Also surviving are grandchildren, Marissa and Ryan Ley, Matthew and Dillon Nicholson; his sister, Lillian Moquet; many nieces and nephews; special niece, Jackie Robertson and nephew, David MacMullen. Carl was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Marion (Beaton) in 1999, his sisters, Lila Andrews, Janet Malamakis, Martha MacMullen, brothers, Jimmy and Johnny MacPherson. Linda was the daughter of Mrs. Evelyn (Gallivan) Ball, Sydney, and the late Lloyd Ball. Linda will always be remembered for her amazing strength, strong faith, determination and positive attitude and the ability to make others laugh. Linda enjoyed her many years spent working with the public and making friends at Bens Bakery and became a familiar face to numerous people throughout the community. Linda will be forever missed and cherished by her mother, Evelyn Ball-Holt (Malcolm); her son, David Gaudet (Shawna); and her daughter, Angela Gaudet. She will always be loved by her grandsons, Noah and Cohen Gaudet and Robert and Nicholas Barrett. Tim passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Reserve, he was the son of the late Alonzo and Georgina (MacNeil) Young. Tim was a member of St. Eugene's Church in Dominion. He was employed with Devco for 43 years retiring from Phalen Colliery as a supervisor. While at Devco he was a draegerman with mine rescue. He also was a member of the Dominion fire department for 35 years. Tim enjoyed his walks on the beach with his dog. Tim will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Carmelita (MacKinnon); daughter, Charlene (David) Findon, Brockville, Ont.; sons, Darrow, Alberta, Bill (Jackie), Glace Bay, and Allan, 11Dominion. Also surviving are sisters, Norma (Jack) Hardy, Glace Bay, Melinda (Dwayne) Lloyd, Dominion; special cousin, Catherine 'Tossie' Saccary, Dominion; and six cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Stubbert. Chrissy passed away in the Northside General Hospital on March 8, 2011. She was a kind and gentle lady, a devoted and faithful wife, a dedicated and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a good neighbour. Chrissy was the daughter of Alexander and Hughena (MacDonald) MacNeil. She grew up on the south side of Boularderie in Groves Point. Upon marrying she spent the remainder of her life in Millville on the north side. She dedicated her life to raising her family and was an accomplished seamstress and cook. In her younger years she enjoyed furniture refinishing, gardening and various other handiworks. She cared about animals; birds and strays that visited her yard were always fed. Chrissy was a member and honourary elder of St. John's United Church, Big Bras d'Or, Johnstone Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and a lifetime member of St. Johns U.C.W. She is survived by brother, John A (Sadie) MacNeil, Millville; daughters, Harriet Andrews, North Sydney, JoAnn Crenshaw, Marrimac, Mass., Wilma (Kevin) Carey, Sydney Mines; sons, Harold, St. Catherines, Ont., Clifford (Astelle), Millville; grandsons, Jay and Joel Leclerc, Troy and Jason Stubbert and Calum Andrews; step grandchildren, Nicole and Jesse Gough; 11 great grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Florence, he was the son of the late Robert and Veronica (King) Simpson. He was a member of St. Stephen's Parish, Florence. Robert was an employee of Devco for 36 years, before his retirement in 1992. He was a pure gentleman who always had a smile on his face. He was an avid bowler, and enjoyed being with his friends and family. He will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend, Arlene (Vickers); brothers Walter and David, Sydney Mines, James and John, Saskatoon, Sask.; sister Shirley Pentecost, Florence; and aunt Edith MacMullin, Sydney Mines. He was like a father to his nephew Buddy (Tracy) Pentecost, niece Shauna (Sean) Moore, and a loving great-uncle to Carrington and Matthew Pentecost. To honor his wishes, there will be no visitation. A lifelong resident of Sydney Mines, Peter was the youngest son of the late Joseph and Maude (Rolfe) Mills. Born in Glace Bay, N.S. on February 28, 1934, he was the son of the late Gordon and Emma (Mercer) Maidment. Cecil was a Korean War veteran and was also a factory worker in Scarborough, ON., for many years. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Elmire 'Emma' (Cormier) Maidment; four children, Betty and Cecil Jr. both of Ajax, ON., Gordon (Diane) of Saint-Antoine, and Gary of Bouctouche, N.B.; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Joseph Maidment, and sisters Jean (Nickie) Madore and Joan Jewells, all of Glace Bay. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
