William 'Bill' Gallivan John Mombourquette Mary (Clarke) MacKeigan Michael MacKinnon MADISON RAE MCDOUGALL ******************************************************************************************************* William 'Bill' Gallivan Passed away in: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 14/02/2011 Mr. William Leo Gallivan formerly of 160 Shore Rd., Sydney passed away Feb.14, 2011. Bill was a resident of Taigh Na Mara where he received excellent care for the past two years. Mr. Gallivan is survived by his four sons, Gregory (Mary-Lou), Strathmore, Alta., Brian (Marilyn), Sydney, Lorne, Edmonton, Alta. and Leo (Cheryl), Calgary, Alta.; sister, Eileen MacNeil, Glace Bay; daughter-in-law, Marlene, Sydney; grandchildren, Chris, Dallas, Kyle, Erin, Lindsey, Janine and Courtney, great-grandchildren, Dylan, Cameron, Caiden, Brianne and Liam. Mr. Gallivan was predeceased by his loving wife and best friend Mary Genevieve 'Jennie' in 1990 along with sisters, Ann-Pauline, Colette and Cecilia. Bill was a lifelong resident of Whitney Pier. He served during the Second World War on the corvette HMCS Bittersweet and worked at the International Coal Piers for most of his life and was very active in the labour movement having served as president of UMWA local 7749 International Coal Piers for 21 years, been vice-president for three terms and served on various union committees as well. Bill believed very strongly in honest representation of fellow union members. In his earlier days, Bill was one of the founding members of the Broadway Ramblers soccer club which won fame in the local ship to shore league and provincial playdowns. Bill was an active bowler, skater and with Jennie and the boys, spent many happy days at the bungalow in Boisdale. Bill will be sadly missed by his many union, legion, and local friends. Bill was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer parish in his beloved Whitney Pier. The family wish to thank the staff at Taigh Na Mara for incredible kindness and love and also to Dr. Mark Sampson who for many years gave dad excellent care. Dad and mom are now truly one forever. Visitation for the late William L. 'Bill' Gallivan will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Bill's life will be held on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul McGillvray officiating and Fr. Errol MacDonald concelebrating. Reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Service will be held in Edmonton, Alta. *********************************** Mary (Clarke) MacKeigan Born in: Boston, Massachusetts, United States Passed away in: Baddeck, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 14/02/2011 Mary Elizabeth MacKeigan, 87, of Marion Bridge, passed away Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Born in Boston, Mass., Mary was the daughter of the late Russell and Sarah (MacLean) Clarke. After graduating from high school, she worked as a department supervisor at Filene's Department Store in Boston. Mary was involved in church work and activities at Roxbury Presbyterian Church. In 1958, she married John R. MacKeigan and moved to Marion Bridge, where she resided for 50 years. Mary was a resident of Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, for the past 2 12 years. She was a member of Bethel United Church, Marion Bridge, where she served many years as treasurer, sang in the choir and acted as a congregational representative to Sydney Presbytery. Mary was also active in the Bethel United Church Women and the Marion Bridge Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a founding member of the Marion Bridge Seniors and Pensioners Club and also served as secretary/treasurer of Oakfield Cemetery. Mary was a fine cook, taking particular pleasure in baking, decorating cakes and shortbread cookies and catering in the community. She is survived by her stepson, Donald MacKeigan (Carol), Ottawa; much loved grandchildren, Mark MacKeigan, Ottawa and Meredith MacKeigan (Ken Ouellette), Toronto; cherished great-grandchildren, Scotia and Keigan Ouellette; as well as, nieces and nephews, James Clarke, N.H., John Clarke, Mass., Marilyn (Clarke) Holmes, Mass., William Clarke, N.H., Stephen Clarke, Mass., Diane Clarke MacDonald, Marion Bridge, Susan Clarke Roser, N.J. and Martha Clarke Thayer, Mass. Mary was predeceased by her husband, John R. and brothers, Herbert, Buell and John A. 'Bud'. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mary (Dunn) MacKinnon, Sydney and the late Neil MacKinnon. Michael was the owner/operator of Taylor's Plumbing & Heating Ltd. He was very devoted to his customers, especially the elderly ones and would never hesitate to meet their needs at any time, day or night. Michael liked to keep busy, trying his hand at many things. He was a loving husband and devoted dad. Michael always put the needs of others before his own and he will be sadly missed. Besides his mother, Michael is survived by his wife, Ann (McLean); daughter, Dawn Marie (Chris), Sydney Mines; sons, Sheldon Michael, Sydney and Adam Douglas, Ft. McMurray; brothers, Danny (Marg) and John (Linda), Sydney, Joe (Donelda) and Lawrence, Northside East Bay and Tony, Toronto; the mother of his children, Darlene (Lowell), Sydney and his very dear friend, Lily Campbell. McDougall/Burch has passed away peacefully after her courageous battle with Leukemia. Madison was not here for long but has touched and was touched by many people. She was strong, fearless, loving and happy through her short life. Madi always had a smile for everyone. Survived by father Stephen McDougall (Angela Cameron), mother Jessica Burch, grandparents Ron and Cynthia Morrison, her very special uncle Jeritt McDougall (Jessica McNeil) who loved her dearly, uncle Jason Morrison (Shalaine), aunt Vanessa (Brad) Strong, cousins Kenzie, Aden, Bria, her special cousin who she called "My Dylan", also by the Burch Family. Madison had her tough times early in life but she stood strong in her battle. She never faltered or gave up. She remained with a smile or her face until the end. The Morrison/McDougall family send out our deepest appreciation to all the friends and family who showed their support when we needed it most. Madison is now gone but never forgotten.
