Clarence Stewart Frederick Fudger Edward 'Fast Eddy' Clements Catherine 'Caddie' MacNeil Alice Mildred Porter ******************************************************************************************************* Clarence Stewart Born in: Margaree Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 28/01/2010 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, after a brief illness at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was 94-years-young and lived a full life. He was loved by all who met him, even though most people thought of him as a little grumpy, he had a heart of gold, and would do anything for you. Dad was born in Margaree Valley. He was the son of the late Donald Stewart and Dorothy Carmichael. Dad served with the RCCS Signal Corps, during the Second World War. He was very proud to be one of the liberators of Holland, and was fortunate enough to be selected by the Cape Breton Post as the veteran to attend the 50th V-Day celebrations in Holland. He retired in 1981 from Maritime Tel&Tel. He was a Level II supervisor. He was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America; Masonic Lodge, he was a Master Mason with the Tyrian Youth Lodge No 45 and received his 65 year pin; he was a member of the Isle Royale Chapter Rose Croix 18º Valley of Sydney; Cape Breton Lodge of Perfection 14º Valley of Sydney; Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite; a member of Cape Breton Shriner Club and a member of John Bernard Croak, Branch 3. He leaves behind to mourn his sisters, Christine Munro, and Frances Ross; his children, Robert Stewart, Virginia Mac Lean, at home, Marg (Don) Vaters, Charles (Barb) Stewart, Kate (Adrian) Bona, all from Glace Bay, Gary (Jean) Stewart of Barrie, Ont. He also leaves behind his grandchildren who loved him dearly, Juanita Gamble and Conrad Stewart, Laura MacLean, Daniel Stewart, D.J. and Michael Vaters, Victoria and Madeline Stewart, Megan, Mary-Anne and Josh Bona, Justin and Gary Jr. Stewart and Ashley Ferguson. Ashley was Dad's pride and Joy, he called her his little "baaa", he raised her as a daughter, he always said she is what made retirement bearable; and his great-grandchildren, Jarrod MacLean and Alexis Stewart. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife, Hilda Doyle, sons, Clarence William, Donald James, daughter, Virginia Ann and stepson, Angus Reid. Dad loved driving, and it didn't matter where we needed to go or at what time, he was always there for us. In the words of Dad's favourite singer, Vera Lynn, "Till we meet again, don't know where, don't know when, but I know we'll meet again some sunny day." The funeral service, conducted by Rev. Michael Goodfellow will be in the chapel at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. There will be a reception following the funeral. A Masonic Order Burial Ritual for their departing brother will be held at 1:30 p.m. ********************************* Frederick Fudger Born in: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada Passed away in: North Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 31/01/2011 It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of Frederick Fudger, 75, beloved husband and father on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Saskatoon, Sask., Fred was the son of the late Frederick and Doris (Smith) Fudger. Fred worked as an air traffic controller with the Canadian Air Force until his retirement in 1983. He is survived by his wife, Bridget (Dolomont) Fudger and only daughter, Anne Marie (Dr. Charles) MacLean, Fort Wayne, Indiana and three nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, John Robert 'J.R.' Fudger. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com. *********************************** Edward 'Fast Eddy' Clements Born in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 28/01/2011 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the peaceful passing of Edward Anthony Clements, 63, of New Waterford on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at the Halifax Infirmary, with his loving family by his side. Born and raised in New Waterford, Edward was the son of the late Wilfred and Elizabeth (Carrigan) Clements. Eddy was a member of the former St. Agnes parish, and now St. Leonard's. He drove truck in his early years and then drove taxi with City Wide Taxi in Sydney for 10 years and then Midway Taxi in New Waterford until his illness. Known to most as 'Fast Eddy' he enjoyed his work and his relationships with his many regular customers. Eddy had a soft and pleasant personality and was helping others whenever he could. He was a very proud member of the local AA's for 18 years. Left to mourn his passing are his companion and best friend of 28 years, Marion Reid; loving daughter, Cindy and son, Edward (Melanie), both of Mississauga, Ont.; sisters, Dorothy Bishop Lingan, Ethel (Carl) DeSalvo, Coldbrook, Ont., Pauline (Frank) Selvet, Emberence (Richard) Burke, both of New Waterford, Gatha (Allan) Crowell, Porters Lake, N.S.; brothers, Thomas (Chris), Ajax, Ont.; Freeman, Brantford, Ont.; Gussie (Shirley), William (Pat), both of Dartmouth, Gary (Karen), Moncton, N.B., Charles, Dominion. His three beautiful grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Eddy will be sadly missed by his two nephews, Bradley and Frank, whom he had a special relationship with. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers in infancy as well as brothers, Russell, Wilfred, John and his sister, Ella. There will be no visitation as per Eddy's request; cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Mclellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard's with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will take place in the spring. A luncheon will be held immediately following the mass at the parish hall, 310 Convent St., all are welcome. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Catherine Ann 'Kaye/Caddie' MacNeil, 66 of Iona, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck after a courageous battle with cancer. Kaye was born in Sydney on April 18, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Hector and Anna MacNeil, Iona. She will be dearly missed by her five children, Cheryl (Sonny) Johnson, Iona, Michele (Sheldon) Matheson, Baddeck, Gerald (Mona), Halifax, Gerard (Kelli), Port Hawkesbury and Lori (Scott) Shaw, Whycocomagh. Nana was loved by her 14 grandchildren, Dakota, Harley, Chynna, Bauer, Eilish, Wren, Matthew, Lindsay, Megan, Marcy, Evan, Lucas, Hunter and Jayden. These little angels were her pride and joy. Caddie leaves behind her siblings, Jimmy (Jerry), Washabuck; Sadie (Michael) MacKenzie, Big Beach; John Hector (Juanita), Hazeldale; Josie (Richard) Bonaparte, Iona and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Kaye was predeceased by her husband, Roddie Frank; her sister, Sissy and brother, George. Caddie was a lifetime member of St. Columba parish, Iona. She was known by many for her incredible gift of telling stories. Her visitors never left without a good cup of tea and an entertaining conversation. Caddie was an active member of her community. She will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, her outgoing personality, her unbelievable memory, her great sense of humour, her compassion for others and her strong faith. Visitation for Catherine Ann MacNeil will be Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 2 - 9 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Columba Parish Hall, Iona. The celebration of her life will be Thursday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at St. Columba Church with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating.
