Ellen passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, Ellen was the daughter of the late George and Maude Yates. Some of her pastimes were knitting on canvas, watching television and movies. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. Ellen is survived by her daughters, Michele (Brian Graham), Tower Road, Tanya (Glen Campbell), Donkin; sons, Brent (Elaine), Mira, Bradley, Glace Bay, and Kyle, Donkin Highway; sister, Emily MacDonald, Port Hawkesbury; cherished grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, Mathew, Megan, G.T., Shania, Travis, Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily; and her cat, Sarah. Besides her parents, Ellen was predeceased by her husband, George Morrison, daughter, Kimberley, sisters, Molly, Betty and Shirley. Keith Campbell passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Quebec, he was the son of the late Elias and Catherine Campbell. Keith was employed with the City of Toronto for 18 years. He was loving and caring and had a great sense of humour. Keith will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Betty (Acker); cherished daughter, Kelly Ann (Chris Goddard), Ajax, Ont.; grandchildren, Danielle, Kevin, Gregory, Andrew, Ryan, Samantha, Emily and great-granddaughter, Keira. Keith will also be loving remembered by his mother-in-law, Mary Acker, Glace Bay; brother and sisters, sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Walter Blanchard, P.E.I., Etta and Jack Higginson, Hamilton, Ont., Bill and Beverly Acker, Halifax; and many nieces and nephews. Danny passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his heartbroken family. Dan is survived by his wife, Donna (Jackson); children, Jamie (Wendy) Pollock, Keith (Susan) MacLellan, Laurie Mortimer, Chris (Kelley) MacLellan and Geoff (Leah) MacLellan - MLA, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Garret and Justin Pollock, Lucas and Zachary MacLellan, Kaitlyn, Courtney and Tyler Mortimer; cousins, Doe McGrath and Kay (Alec) Meston, Marlene (Don) Weatcher, Trisha MacNeil, Fred (Patricia) MacLellan and Jim (Elsie) MacLellan; nephew, Karl (Holly) Stein; best friend, Mick (Dolores) Kelloway; and brother-in-law, Karl Stein. 'Big Dan' was an avid sports fan. He didn't miss an inning of his beloved New York Yankees, watched his Green Bay Packers win the Super Bowl and was a dedicated NASCAR follower. Danny enjoyed local fastball, the Sydney Sooners and loved to cheer on his grandson Tyler during hockey games at the Bayplex. He spent countless hours reading hundreds of books related to war, history and world leaders. He loved politics, especially talking shop over tea with his MLA and MP. Danny loved to reminisce about the glory days of Devco. He was so very proud of his decades of coal mining and his heart was filled with memories of the men he worked beside every day. Danny felt blessed to spend time at the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was comforted by the tremendous staff that made him smile. He would be happy knowing they enjoyed his company and will miss him dearly. Proudly born in 'The Blocks' of Pitt Street in Caledonia, Danny spent most of his life at the family home in Table Head where he raised his kids and loved his neighbours. He will miss the peace found on his front step. Dan was a great and happy man who will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation for Dan will take place 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 in V.J McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Born July 25, 1918, in Fogo Island, N.L., she was the eldest child of the late Pierce and Alice Lynch. She immigrated to Cape Breton in 1942 where she met and married her late husband, Neil W. MacNeil from Benacadie Pond. Mom was a very caring, loving woman who always put others before herself. She was a longtime member of St. Theresa's CWL, an active member of St. Rita's Hosptial Womens' Auxiliary. For many years, she canvassed for the Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Cancer Society. She was a member of the Cursillo Movement and Blue Army. She always made herself available to assist friends and neighbours in need of help for a sick or elderly loved one. Her enjoyment throughout 55 years was meeting with her 'club members' every Tuesday night for a good game of 45s or auction and meeting with her friends on Lorne Street for their weekly games of cards. Mom's children blessed her with 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren who 'Nan' cherished and they loved her unconditionally. Mom's numerous nieces and nephews looked up to her like she was a 'queen'. Born in Chéticamp, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marguerite (née Aucoin) Poirier. Charlie explored many careers throughout his life before retiring as a waiter at the Bonnie Prince in 1991, having served his loyal customers for 45 years. In work and life Charlie was everybody's friend, best known for his sense of humour that he kept to the very last day. Charlie especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He was an excellent Acadian rug-hooker and had many happy memories of camping in Chéticamp and Ben Eoin. He will be remembered forever. Poirier ************************************ Alfred 'Murray' Stockley Born in: Rockey Point, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 12/01/1930 Passed away in: Ingonish, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 12/02/2011 Murray died Feb. 12, 2011, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility. Born in Ingonish, Jan. 12, 1930, Murray lived on the family homestead at Rockey Point. He was a kind, gentle person who had an amazing self taught knowledge of nature. A longtime steward of the sea he believed in hard work and living from nature. There was always a proper way to hunt, fish, or pick a blueberry. He enjoyed hearing if the fish were biting or if a deer had been sighted. He was the companion of many a beagle or black lab over his 81 years and was often seen by many in his rubber boots, walking his niece's, "pups" or making his rounds dropping bones off to local dogs. Murray was also a lifetime contributor to Parks Canada's annual bird count. Those of us that knew him well will miss his stories, his humour, albeit sarcastic at times, and the quiet way he always hummed a tune. Murray shared his life with his girlfriend, Alice; his niece, Clara and her husband Mike and their three children Evan, Taylor and Samuel aka "Little John"; his special sister-in-law, Sadie and niece, Claudette; his life-long friend, Buck Hussey and his second family, the staff on Wentworth Court. Murray was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Louise and sisters, Pat, Kaye, Francis and Nora, brother's Jim and Russell. He is survived by siblings Rose, Ontario, Mary, Dartmouth, Hannah, Baddeck, Clancy, Main-a-Dieu, Ann and Roy, Ingonish. Alice enjoyed being a resident of the Northside Guest Home, and participated in the many activities available to her. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, and a lifetime member of the Naomi unit of the UCW. She also loved to quilt, crochet and play cards, and in her younger years enjoyed camping and going for her Sunday drives with family. Alice was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her four children, Jean (Ralph) Pearce of Halifax, Shirley Hamilton of California, Clinton (Donna) Guy of Ontario, Roland (Rosalind) Guy of North Sydney; her eight grandchildren, Raymond, Heather, Kenneth, Alan, Clinton, Janice, Laurie, Gregory; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; also by her sister-in-law, Loena Lawrence, Halifax; many nieces and nephews, as well as her special nieces, the Kinslow girls. Born in Pleasant Bay, he was the son of the late Jack Sam and Flora (Fraser) Hinkley. He was a veteran of the Second World War as well as being a life-long fisherman and businessman. He was a charter member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 32, Cheticamp, and was its president for two terms. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley (Andy), Cheticamp; two sons, Willard, Halifax, and Gregory (Marjorie), Cheticamp; six grandchildren, Joey (Aline), Cindy (Fidele), Jeannie (Dwayne), Shelley (Claudie), David (Tanya) and Dale; nine great-grandchildren, Brittany (Brad), Marco, Michel, Logan, Molly, Isaac, Lane, Halle, Ryder and great-great-grandchild, Braelyn Shae. Nugent Born in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 24/11/1938 Passed away in: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 11/02/2011 We the family of John J. Nugent regret to announce the passing of our father, grandfather (Poppy), brother and friend on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Sydney Mines, Nov. 24, 1938, the youngest son of the late Michael and Eleanor (Fletcher) Nugent. Following high school, John was employed at Princess Colliery as a mine electrician and also served as a member of their mine rescue team. John's next venture took him to the Canadian Forces Fire School in Borden, Ont., where he successfully completed his training and was hired as a career firefighter at the Radar Base in Sydney. John left his firefighting position to accept a position with the Nova Scotia Fire Marshall's Office as provincial training officer. A true Cape Bretoner, John returned home to pursue a career with Canada Post, where he was employed for many years. John served his community well for over 52 years, as a community minded person, John followed in his father's footsteps and began a long and distinguished career as a member of the Sydney Mines Volunteer Fire Department. Working his way through the ranks, John progressed from firefighter to captain, deputy chief and eventually fire chief, a position he held for the last 31 years until the time of his death. As a progressive fire chief, John constantly strived to keep the department up to date with very modern first-class equipment, facilities, and training. Under John's leadership, the fire department lead the way in automobile and water rescue. The crown jewel of John's fire service career was the planning and construction of the new fireman's centre. Upon completion of this state of the art facility, the members saw fit to name the building in his honour, "The John J. Nugent Fireman's Center" - a legacy he left for the people of Sydney Mines. Among his many accomplishments John was honorary president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8, past chairman of the Cape Breton Fire Chiefs' Association and president of the Sydney Mines Firemen's Club. John was a humble man with a very kind heart, always ready to serve others. On March 21, 1986, John was awarded the Star of Courage (SC) from the Governor General of Canada for his bravery in saving a 10-year old boy from drowning on an ice covered pond. In life and in death John was surrounded by his loving family and friends, all of whom will miss him greatly. John leaves behind his special friend, Kathy Pentz; daughters, Valerie Marie Caldwell, her husband Kenny and their children Jonathon, Tyler and Aaron; Patrice McDougall and her three boys Garrett, Logan and Calder; Alison Anthony and her two girls, Taylor and Megan; Lori Nugent and her three children, Brianna, Madelyn and Kalen. He is also survived by his only son, John Jr. and his wife Valerie and their three children, Marcel, Kaitlin, and Matthew. Surviving are his two sisters, Wendy (John) Simpson and Alma Ash; a brother Michael and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife, Valerie (MacPhee) in 2004, and his brothers, Leroy, Edward, Robert, Allister and his sisters, Lovey Jackson and Nancy Gordon. John's legacy of love and devotion will live on forever in the hearts of his children, grandchildren and special friends. John loved greatly, lived simply and cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren and friends, all of whom will have wonderful memories of their Poppy and the summers that were spent at our cabin in Georges River. Born in New Waterford on December 25, 1948, he was the son of the late Gino and Olive (MacKinnon) Pozzebon of Hinchey Avenue, New Waterford. John worked at the Steel Plant for seven years, he later went into the construction business. In his younger years, John always took great care of himself; he enjoyed motorcycles, fast cars and skydiving. John travelled all over with the Sydney Skydiving Club. He is survived by his faithful wife of 40 years Colleen (MacKinnon) Pozzebon, two daughters, Shauna Pozzebon (John), New Waterford, Sheri (Mrs. Pat Power), Glace Bay, one sister, Valerie (Mrs. Larry Gauthier), Lingan and one brother, Raymond (Linda), New Waterford. John is also survived by five beautiful grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J.
