Dooley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Church Improvement Fund. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com. ********************************* Robert 'Blair' MacPhee Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 09/10/1939 Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 05/02/2011 It is with deepest sadness that the family of Blair MacPhee announce his peaceful passing on Feb. 5, 2011. Born Oct. 9, 1939, in Glace Bay, Blair was a son of the late Donald John and Mary Catherine (Walsh) MacPhee. Besides his parents, Blair was predeceased by his loving wife, Catherine and daughter, Paula (MacPhee) Thiessen. Left to cherish his wonderful memory are his daughters, Bernadette (Simon) Barrett, Hinton, Alta., Susan (Dale) McPherson, Calgary, Alta.; and son, Donald (Kristen) MacPhee, Sherwood Park, Alta. Blair was also blessed with three beautiful grandchildren, Bailey, Breton and Raegan, whom he loved dearly. Blair was visiting his children and grandchildren at Christmastime when he fell ill. He also leaves behind many family and friends who will miss him. Blair had an extensive career in the construction industry and his legacy will live on in the many building projects that he supervised throughout the Cape Breton area over a 40+ year span including several hospitals and schools that have bettered the lives of many generations. In honouring Blair's wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. Donations in Blair's memory may *********************************** Eric Wilfred Clayton Watson Born in: Aberdeen, United Kingdom Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Our Eric passed from this world peacefully in the arms of his wife, daughter and stepdaughter at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He had been cared for there for the past month by the wonderful staff of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit. Eric was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1936. When he was 11 years of age he immigrated to Africa with his family, where he raised his two beloved children, Susan-Anne and David Myles. He stayed there until 1977. Eric felt a great love and connection with Africa, the people and the wild life. He always considered it his real home until he found his "love" in Cape Breton, N.S. Eric was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a fine man of great dignity who earned the respect and friendship of all who came to know him. He would always lend a helping hand to those who needed it and he truly wished the best for all his friends and family. Eric had a deep love and respect for nature and always enjoyed the outdoors and watching the wildlife. One of the highlights of his summer was the cottage at Orangedale, the beach at Lake Ainslie and watching the many birds, especially the hummingbirds which frequent there. Eric was an avid traveller and travelled much of the world both with work and for pleasure. He worked for many airlines including East African, Air Malawi and Kuwait Airlines. In later years, he shared his love of travel with his wife Darlene. Eric was an integral member of the Masonic lodge where he was twice Worshipful Master of MacKay Lodge #113, Sydney. He belonged to the Prince of Wales Chapter #10 and the Cape Breton Preceptory #43. He first began his devotion to Freemasonry in Blantyre, Africa in 1973 and continued in Bedfordshire, England, before moving to Cape Breton. Eric was predeceased by his parents, Phyllis Evelyn and Robert Watson. They are buried near Perth, Australia. He was also predeceased by two grandsons, Michael and James Watson who died at birth. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Bill, Australia, in 2010. Eric was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be forever loved and held close in the hearts of his loving wife, Darlene; his beloved daughter, Susan-Anne, her husband Marios and their children Themis, Nicholas and Louisa (Cyprus); his son, David, his wife Sharon and their daughter Alison (England); his stepdaughter Christina, and her fiancé Clinton and her stepson Conor (England); his brother, Frank and his wife Judith and their children Michael, Jessica, Jenny and Ian (Australia); and his sister, Bobby and her children Wendy, Glen, Kylene, Kim and Bianca (Australia). A memorial service officiated by Rev. Donna Tourneur, will be held at Stewart United Church in Whycocomagh on Thursday, Feb. 10, beginning at 2 p.m. with a Masonic Service. Donations can be made in his memory to the An Cala Pallative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or to Kenya Kesho - an organization to keep children in school in East Africa. We will love you and miss you forever, our sweet Eric. ************************************ Muriel Rose MacLean Born in: Sydney Born on: 20/08/1934 Passed away in: Sydney Passed away on: 05/02/2011 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Muriel Rose MacLean on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Muriel was born in Sydney, Aug. 20, 1934, the daughter of Rose and Alex MacLean. Surviving are her sister, Eileen Ramsay; brothers, James 'Junior' (Kay), Gordon and Wilfred (Frances) and their families, and dear friend, neighbour and caregiver, Ruth MacFadyen; as well as many close friends who will feel her loss deeply. Her nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, to whom she was always 'Moo Moo' will remember her with much love. She remained close to and kept in touch with several relatives in England. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Ferguson and a sister, Audrey in infancy. Muriel worked for many years with Revenue Canada. Many of her co-workers remain close friends to this day. A lifetime member of First United Church, Sydney, Muriel was a tireless worker in all aspects of the life of the church. Her more recent endeavour was making quilts for the homeless of the community. She will be remembered for her contribution to the hospital lab department of hundreds of finger puppets, which she knit with so much love. A quiet and gentle person, compassionate and caring, Muriel's life was all about giving, which she did in abundance and with a glad heart. She was a dear and precious friend who will be greatly missed. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8 at First United Church at 2 p.m. Family flowers only. Born Dec. 13, 1932, in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Vera (Gratto) Davidson. She moved to Cape Breton in 1950 to marry the love of her life Elmer Robertson. She spent her life taking care of her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a beautiful lady with a heart of gold, who enjoyed the company of many wonderful friends and neighbours. She enjoyed going to bingo games and attending yard sales. She is survived by her daughters, Daria Beddow (Sandy Campbell), Englishtown, Sharon Robertson, North Sydney, Carlee MacAskill (Wilson Harper), Sydney, and Lisa (Garry) MacNeil, Millville; also by her nine grandchildren, Corrie, Shawna and Justin Beddow, Joel Robertson, Jacob, Noah and Emily MacAskill, Emma Harper, Benjamin and Gabriel MacNeil; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; her sisters, Audrey George, Joanne (Edgar) MacDonald, Shirley Ross, Nancy MacLellan (Hector Priest); a brother, Larry Davidson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Elmer Robertson in 2009, brothers, Donald, Deedee, Dennis and Gargett Davidson, sisters, Dorothy Gillis, Joyce Smith and one brother Allan in infancy. Visitation for Jean 'Sakey' will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John United Church, Big Bras d'Or, with Rev Louis Ihasz officiating. Burial to take place at Black Rock Cemetery, at a later date.
