Rozicki Eric Watson ******************************************************************************************************* Caroline Roberts Born in: Newfoundland, Canada Passed away in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 05/02/2011 Caroline Roberts passed peacefully away at the Glace Bay Community Health Center on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, aged 93. Predeceased by her husband, James Arthur Roberts, her son, Russell as well as her father and mother, George and Caroline Clarke, her sister, Georgina and her brother, Baxter. She was the last member of her family. Left to mourn her passing are her three daughters, Faith (the late Alex) Balisch, Patricia (Albert) Mckenzie and Elizabeth (Terrence Gracie). She had nine grandchildren, Arnold and Karl Balisch, Ronald, Alison and David McKenzie, Blaine and BJ Gracie, James and Carrie Lynn Roberts; 13 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jamie, Felicia, Matthew, Ethan, Aedan, Ryley, Emma, Evan, Paulina, Michael, Matthew, and Gabriel and one great-great-granddaughter, Shelby. Carrie was born in harbor Le Cou in Newfoundland in 1918 and moved to Glace Bay as a child. She lived a full and rich life with her family and enjoyed a 40-year membership in a neighbourhood Christmas Savings Club on MacLean Street. She was a member of St. Mary's Church and also for many years attended the Salvation Army Home League. Until this past year she enjoyed the Saturday night Bingo at the Community Hall in Birch Grove and many cups of Tim Hortons coffee and hot chocolate with her family and friends. The family would like to thank the caregivers, especially Betty Ann Christoff, who daily made her life so much more comfortable. No flowers by request. Donations in Carrie's memory may be made to St. Mary's Anglican Church or a charity of one's choice. Visitation will be held at Patten Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.pattenfuneral.com. ********************************* Doug MacKeigan Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 01/05/1952 Passed away in: Oakville, Ontario, Canada Passed away on: 04/02/2011 Doug MacKeigan, 58, died at Ian Anderson House, Oakville, Ont. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, following a final fierce battle with kidney cancer. For 10 years, with the amazing help of Princess Margaret Hospital, Doug lived with the burden of cancer, living his life as well as possible through each new stage. Born May 1, 1952, in Glace Bay, N.S., he lived in Glace Bay until attending Acadia University in the early 1970s. Doug loved Acadia and the lifestyle in Wolfville. He worked at Dalhousie University for several years, living in Halifax. He then started a long career in sales with Johns Scientific and Radiometer, until the advancement of his illness forced retirement. In 1981 he and his wife moved to Ontario, taking up residence in Oakville and staying there until his death. Doug was notable for his care and consideration for others. For many years to participated in the March of Dimes annual campaign. Doug is missed by his wife of 32 years, Aileen McNabb and his two children, Conor (19) and Devlin (16). Conor is attending University of King's College in Halifax; and Devlin is a grade 11 student at Oakville Trafalgar High School. Doug is also in the hearts of his sister Nancy; and brothers, Dwight, Dale and Darrin; as well as his mother, June all living in Nova Scotia. Doug was predeceased by his father, Doug, nine years ago. Services will be held at Glen Oaks Reception Centre, 3164 Ninth Line, Hwy 403 and Dundas Street, Oakville, Ontario on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, www.glenoaks.ca. Relatives and friends are welcome. Donation cards will be available at the memorial service. *********************************** Vicki Lewis Born in: Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada Passed away in: Westmount, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 05/02/2011 It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister and best friend, Vicki Anne Lewis, on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Etobicoke, Ont., she was the daughter of the late John Matthews and Bernice Rockefeller. For 30 years, Vicki was employed at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in the dietary department, for which we are very proud. Left to mourn her loss are her children, Tammy and Richie, both of Sydney and Darrell, British Columbia; six grandchildren; brothers, John Matthews and John Douglas Rockefeller; and her companion, Marvin Howard. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca. ************************************ Joseph Allen Gillis Born in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 23/03/1917 Passed away in: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 05/02/2011 Joseph Allen Gillis of Dartmouth, died surrounded by his family on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in New Waterford, March 23, 1917, he was a son of the late Angus and Flora (Gillis) Gillis. Joe was an Airforce veteran of the Second World War. He began a rewarding career with the Royal Bank in New Waterford at the age of 18 and went on to manage branches in St. Peter's, New Waterford, Pictou and Dartmouth. Joe was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club, where he served as officer and president. His many interests included, fishing, curling, card playing and vacationing with his family. Joe was a loving father who will be sadly missed and always remembered for his unwavering commitment to his children, forever instilling the value and merit of education and a strong work ethic. Joe met his wife June, while working for the Royal Bank in Charlottetown. They were married at St. Peter's Church, Dartmouth on Nov. 10, 1947. Joe is survived by his five children, JoAnn (Bruce) Grindley of Halifax, Karen (Michael) Laffin of Calgary, Alta., Mark (Jillian) of Windsor Junction, Deborah (Serge Belzile) Gillis of Canmore, Alta., and Joel of Halifax; grandchildren, John Richard 'J.R.', Luke and Michael Laffin, Jacqueline, Ashley and Joseph Gillis, Jessica and Lindsey Reed. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife, June (Dingwell) in 2002, his parents and seven brothers and sisters. Joe was a parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Dartmouth, since 1967, where a Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Born in Sydney Mines, Jan. 2, 1925, he was the son of the late Pius and Anastasia (Glogowski) Tobin. He was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. He was employed at the Princess Colliery for 33 yeas as a coal miner. After he retired he took to sharpening skates on MacAulay's Lane for a number of years. He could put his hand to anything and although he was a man of few words, he loved to talk sports with the boys in the barn. Manny was also enlisted to the Canadian Army in 1943, but the war ended before he got sent overseas. He leaves behind his wife, Edith (Ford) of 66 years; his sons, Buddy (Carol), Freddy (Debbie), Danny (Linda), Dennis (Geralyn); daughters, Marjorie Wassilaskus, Susan (Cully) Cullen; 12 grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Jill, Melissa, Danielle, Shane, April, Jeff, Ashley, Ryan, Justin and Jessica; six great-grandchildren, Charleigh, Avery, Jack, Julia, Kate and Grace; brothers, Richard (Bea), Cecil (Nora) and Gerald (Jackie). Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Linda, grandson, Aaron, son-in-law, Joseph Wassilaskus, and brothers, Stanley, Joseph and Freddy. Rozicki Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 13/05/1962 Passed away in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 05/02/2011 It is with great sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of Walter Rozicki at the QE II Hospital, Halifax on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011. Born in Sydney, May 13, 1963, he was the son of the late Edward and Julia (Deschepper) Rozicki. Walter was employed at Staples Call Centre, Lower Sackville, previously employed as manager of Charm & Crescent Jewellers. He was an avid Elvis fan and enjoyed listening to his music. Walter will always be remembered as the life of the party. His charm and captivating smile enlightened all that knew him. Walter is survived by his partner, Cathy Noseworthy; her children, Erik and Erin; sister, Helen (Tony) Szucs, Halifax; brothers, Eddie (Sue) Rozicki, Francis (Darlene) Rozicki, both of Sydney; niece, Tanya; nephews, Eddie, Marshall and grandniece, Madison; as well as his former companion and good friend, Pattie Givogue, and her daughter, Chantale. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. As per Walter's wishes he was an organ and tissue donor. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 10 at the S.W. Online condolences may be sent to our webpage at www.chantfuneralhome.com. ************************************ Eric Watson Our Eric passed from this world peacefully in the arms of his wife, daughter and step-daughter at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He had been cared for there for the past month by the wonderful staff of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit. Eric was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1936. When he was 11 years of age, he immigrated to Africa with his family, where he raised his two beloved children, Susan-Anne and David Myles. He stayed there until 1977. Eric felt a great love and connection with Africa, the people and the wild life. He always considered it his real home until he found his "Love" in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Eric was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a fine man of great dignity who earned the respect and friendship of all who came to know him. He would always lend a helping hand to those who needed it and he truly wished the best for all his friends and family. Eric had a deep love and respect for nature and always enjoyed the outdoors and watching the wildlife. One of the highlights of his summer was the cottage at Orangedale, the beach at Lake Ainslie and watching the many birds, especially the hummingbirds which frequent there. Eric was an avid traveler and traveled much of the world both with work and for pleasure. He worked for many airlines including East African, Air Malawi and Kuwait Airlines. In later years, he shared his love of travel with his wife, Darlene. Eric was an integral member of the Masonic lodge where he was twice Worshipful Master of MacKay Lodge #113, Sydney. He belonged to the Prince of Wales Chapter #10 and the Cape Breton Preceptory #43. He first began his devotion to Freemasonry in Blantyre, Africa in 1973 and continued in Bedfordshire, England before moving to Cape Breton. Eric is predeceased by his parents, Phyllis Evelyn and Robert Watson. They are buried near Perth, Australia. He is also predeceased by two grandsons, Michael and James Watson, who died at birth. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law, Bill, Australia, in 2010. Eric was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be forever loved and held close in the hearts of his loving wife, Darlene; his beloved daughter, Susan-Anne; her husband, Marios and their children, Themis, Nicholas and Louisa (Cyprus); his son David; his wife Sharon and their daughter Alison (England); his step-daughter Christina, and her fiancé, Clinton and her stepson, Conor (England); his brother, Frank and his wife, Judith and their children, Michael, Jessica, Jenny and Ian (Australia) and his sister, Bobby and her children, Wendy, Glen, Kylene, Kim and Bianca (Australia). Eric is also survived by his Canadian family, his mother-in-law, Margaret Ongo; brother-in-law, Keith, his wife, Melanie and their son, Greg; brother-in-law, Philip, his daughter, Rebecca and fiancé, Angie; his sister-in-law, Sandralee, her husband, Roger and their daughter, Chelsey. A memorial service officiated by Rev. Donna Tourneur, will be held at Stewart United Church in Whycocomagh on Thursday, February 10, beginning at 2 p.m. with a Masonic Service. Donations can be made in his memory to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or to Kenya Kesho, an organization to keep children in school in East Africa.
