Georgina was one of a kind 'Cheers Joe' ********************************* Gretchen Gwendolyn (Jones) Ayre Born in: Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada Born on: 20/05/1925 Passed away in: Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 08/02/2011 Gretchen Gwendolyn (Jones) Ayre, formerly of Upper Onslow, N.S., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Feb. 8, 2011, at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro, N.S. Born in Sackville, N.B., May 20, 1925, she was the daughter of the Late Harry and Mabel (Hicks) Jones. In her earlier years Gretchen attended Mt. Allison Business College and then began her working career at Atlantic Wholesalers Sackville, N.B., where she met and later married Frank Ayer. They moved to Truro, N.S., and began raising their family. Gretchen spent much of her career in the insurance industry; first working at Norwich Union Life Insurance (Art Hiltz) and remained there until the office was closed. She worked at Co-operators Insurance with Frank Hennessey and then joined Frank at Hennessey Insurance. She finished her career at Fulton's Insurance. Gretchen spent a short time being secretary for the Onslow United Church, where she was also a member. Gretchen was a loving mother and her children were the center of her life; she received so much enjoyment from being with them. She enriched their lives in many ways. Gretchen enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She would always look forward to a good game and the many laughs she would have with her Tuesday and Thursday bridge groups from Onslow and Bible Hill. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been predeceased by her parents, her husband, Frank Baird Ayer and her sisters, Marie (Larry) Trainor and Phyllis (Len) Turnbull. She is survived by her children, Frank Prescott Ayer (Lenora Steele), Truro, N.S., Heather (Harold) Perro, Georges River, N.S., Jane (David) Armsworthy, Brookfield, N.S., and Jill (Donnie) MacMullen, Sydney, N.S.; her grandchildren, Karla, Chris and Doug Armsworthy, Katie Perro, Robyn and Michael MacMullen; step-grandchildren, Darryl, Dale and Kathleen Steele; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ayer, Edmonton, Alta.; and brother-in-law, Robert Duncan, Cornwall, Ont. Born in Sydney Mines, Oct. 19, 1936, he was the son of the late Simon and Georgina (Fortune) LeBlanc. David lived most of his life in Ontario, where he sailed the Great Lakes for over 40 years. David will be greatly missed by his only son, David Leblanc; brothers, Pat (Yvonne), Brian (Dena), Wayne, Frankie (Gail), Lawrence and Greg (Jin); sisters, Dorothy (Marvin) Holmen, Mary (Tom) Capstick, Helen Cholock, Nora LeBlanc and Valerie Hurley. He is also survived by his only aunt, Elizabeth Thomas; many nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Wanda MacKenzie. He also leaves behind his dogs, Nitro and Patches, who were always close by. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers John, four brothers in infancy, and brother-in-law George Cholock. Visitation for David LeBlanc will be held today (Thursday, Feb. 10) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Pius X Church, with Fr. Ajit Kerketta officiating. A reception will be held in the parish hall after the mass. Paul was born in North Sydney, the son of Geraldine 'Deane' (O'Toole) Power and the late Al 'Butch' Power. Left to cherish his wonderful memory are his loving wife and best friend of 43 years, Joan (Murphy); son, Troy and daughter, Tracy (Warren Capstick). Paul is also survived by three beautiful grandchildren, Jonathan, Madison and Brayden, whom he loved dearly. Paul is also survived by brothers, Terry (Sandra), Glenn (Raylene), Eric and sisters, Judy (Edmund Hart), Lynn (George Nugent), Rhonda (Dennis Kelly), Annette (Roy Moore) and Raylene (Alan House). Paul will also be sadly missed by his best friend and companion, "Toby"......woof. Besides his father, Paul was predeceased by a son in infancy, Todd, grandson, Brent and his sister, Susan. In his early years, Paul joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he was a member of the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry. Paul lived and worked in Toronto for 20 years as a limo driver and property manager. He then returned to Glace Bay in 1985 and became a Microsoft certified systems engineer. For the last nine years he was employed at Stream in Glace Bay. Paul was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching his grandkids play hockey and baseball. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who will be loved and missed by all. Visitation for Paul will be held at Curry's Funeral Home on Main Street in Glace Bay, Friday, Feb. 11 at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Anthony's Church on Dominion Street in Glace Bay on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Elizabeth was a proud grandmother to Joanelle, Danielle, Tyler, Carson, Dalton, Katrina, Brittany, Zach, and great-grandmother to Ethan and Silas. She will be sadly missed by her brothers, sisters, family and friends. Elizabeth will affectionately be remembered for her loving kindness, hospitality and generosity toward others. At the time of his death, Dave was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Halifax, June 27, 1948, David was the son of the late Charles John and Phyllis Madeline (Jessop) Miller and was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay. Dave worked at numerous trades over the course of his life, from carpentry, electrical, fishing and was employed with the Department of Highways in Halifax. He was a hard worker who loved shovelling snow and working on projects around his home and yard. But mostly, David will be remembered as a kind and loving family man, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Dave was a constant companion to his grandchildren and to the neighbourhood children as well. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary Rose (McNeil) Miller, son, Paddy (Margaret), Glace Bay; daughters, Holly (Blake), British Columbia, Crystal (Jason), Glace Bay; also surviving are eight grandchildren, Samantha, Ellen, Raven, Shyanne, Christopher, David, Joshua and special granddaughter Kimberly, who he raised as his own daughter; sisters, Joan (Lonnie) Goodwin, Yarmouth, Sandra (Barry) Furlotte and Gail Oldham, both of Halifax; brothers, Paul (Claire) and Jack (Jean), both of Halifax; brothers-in-law, sisters in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and a large circle of family friends. Peter worked for Nickerson's Fish Plant until his retirement, at age 65.
