Leah Katharine 'Kay' MacNeil (Warren) James MacLeod Kathleen Williams Alexander 'Frank' Graham Charlotte Snow-Spooney Agnes 'Nan' Poole ******************************************************************************************************* Leah Katharine 'Kay' MacNeil (Warren) Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 18/02/2011 It is with deepest regret that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear mother, Leah Katharine (Warren) MacNeil, formally of Louisa Street, Sydney, on Friday, February 18, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family by her side after a brief illness. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Alpheaus and Rebecca (Russell) Warren. She was extremely loved and respected by her nine children and their families: John Robert (Antonietta), Sydney; Ann Marie (Robert Farmer), Truro; Edmund (Terri Pettipas), Brampton, ON; Roddie (Susan), Sydney; Patricia (Mike Cameron), Rothesay, NB; Catherine (Bruce Rowlands), Maryland, USA; Donna (Mike Ayre), Sydney; Arlene (Joe Sophocleous), Moncton, NB; Michael (Cyndie), Milton, ON; 21 grandchildren: Elisa and Robert MacNeil; Tyler and Bryant Farmer; Danny and Ashley MacNeil; Scott and Jennifer MacNeil; Katelyn and Christine Cameron; Chloƫ, Lucas, and Hannah Rowlands; Andrea and Samantha Ayre; Aaron and Lindsay Sophocleous; Courteney and Kyle MacNeil; step-grandchildren Sean and Brian Pettipas. She is also survived by her ten great-grandchildren. She will be missed by her three brothers, Lloyd (Evelyn), Bill (Martha), Sydney; and Robert (Sheila), Dartmouth; sister-in-law Kathleen Warren, Sydney; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband and soul mate Neil Edmund and her brother Chesley. There will be no visitation as per her request. The funeral will be held on Monday, February 21 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Sydney. As an expression of sympathy for Kay, memorial donations in her memory can be made to the Palliative Care Unit at CBDHA or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation in lieu of flowers. ********************************* James MacLeod Born in: Nova Scotia, Canada Born on: 07/07/1955 Passed away in: Bras d'Or, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 17/02/2011 It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness, that we the family of James MacLeod announce his passing, on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011 at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on July 7, 1955 the seventh son of the late John James and Catherine (Swan) MacLeod of Bras d'Or. In his earlier years Jim sailed on the Great Lakes and later returned home to work with the Labourer's Union Local 1115. He was a good friend to many. He loved the outdoors, spending many nights in the woods hiking with his brother Larry and many days hiking and fishing with his nephews, Tyler and Brandon. Jim played hockey and baseball in his younger years and was a short stop with the ANAF Pirates softball team. He is survived by his sisters, Florence (Tom) Moylan, Ct., Anna Harvey, NC, Kay (Richard) Spezzano, Ct., Marlin (Charles) Ford, Ct. and Kimberly (Urban Jr.) Day, Bras d'Or. He is also survived by his brothers John (Cleo), Bras d'Or, George (Charlina), Alder Point, Dan (Sharon), Boularderie, Pat (Linda), Bras d'Or, Din (Pauline), Alder Point, Larry (Sharon), Sydney, and Reggie, Sydney Mines. He is also survived by his aunts, Mary (MacLeod) Patterson, Ont., Bridget (Swan) Thurbide, Mill Creek, Lois (Swan) Currie, Bras d'Or and Julia Swan of Florence. He is also survived by one uncle Reg Thurbide, Mill Creek and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private graveside service at a later date at St. James Cemetery in Big Bras d'Or where his parents are resting. Arrangements are under the direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. ********************************* Kathleen Williams Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Coxheath, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 15/02/2011 Kathleen Isabel Williams, 59, Coxheath and formerly of East Bay passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011 at her home. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of Mrs. Margaret (MacNeil) MacNeil of Northside East Bay and the late John Hector MacNeil. Kathleen worked in the medical field for 36 years, retiring from the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in December of 2009. During that time she worked for a number of years as secretary for Dr. Ian Holmes and Dr. Phil Smith. She is survived by a daughter, Tena Alaine Williams of Coxheath and a son, Derek Stanley Williams of Alberta; by two sisters, Margaret (Ken) Ivey of Fall River, N.S. and Paula MacIntyre of Howie Center; two brothers, John MacNeil of Sydney and Gerald MacNeil of Northside East Bay and by eight grandchildren, Chelsey, Breanna, Tye, Derek Jr., Darla, Rory, Evan, and Liberty. There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Williams. A funeral service will be celebrated at a later date, with interment to follow. Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Fund. Born in Sydney on May 28, 1969, she was the daughter of Lena Cameron and Gilbert Cann. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines. Charlotte was known for her angelic voice. She enjoyed Karaoke and old fashioned house parties, where she was known to entertain. Charlotte leaves behind her lifetime partner, Michael Spooney Jr.; her daughter, Angela; sons, Cody and Blake; stepsons, Shane (Sandy) and Korey (Ceildh); her beautiful granddaughters, Bella and Layla, who were her angels and many family and friends. Charlotte was predeceased by her stepson, Ryan Spooney. Visitation for Charlotte will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with Rev. "All my pain and grief is over, Every restless moment past, I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last." **************************************** Agnes 'Nan' Poole Born in: Fifeshire, Scotland, United Kingdom Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 15/02/2011 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Agnes Watson Poole, age 87, resident of Rotary Drive, Sydney, formerly of North Sydney, on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Fifeshire, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jane (Watson) Reid. She came to Canada when she was four years old. She moved to Montreal in her teens and worked there for a period of time as a model. Later she was employed with Warworks during the Second World War. Agnes was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving is a son, Gordon and his wife, Mary, Edmonton, Alta.; daughter, Jean (Poole) Sampson, North Sydney; grandson, Jeff Sampson; her caregiver, Judy and family. She was predeceased by her husband, Vince Poole; sister, Marlene Grey, Ontario; brother, Jack Reid, Halifax. No visitation was held by request. A private family funeral service was held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later time.
