Born in Ramea, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Young) Hatcher. Ida was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as reading and knitting. She is survived by her five daughters, Jean Menchenton (Roy), Sandy Point, N.L., Marlene Smith-Hanlon (Frank), St. John's, N.L., Joyce Parsons, Westmount, N.S., Anne Curry (Russell), Glace Bay, Beverly Hawkins (John), Big Bras d'Or; her three sons, Rex Parsons (Linda), Enfield, N.S., David Parsons (Jean), Port au Port, N.L., James Parsons, Clarenville, N.L..; her sister, Lena, Stephenville, N.L.; also by 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore, daughter, Janis Gill, two infant sons, brothers, Freeman, Jim and Walter and sister, Mahala. Visitation for Ida will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday, from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com. ********************************* Carol Ann McPherson Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 20/02/2001 Carol Ann McPherson, 73, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, surrounded and comforted by her loving family. Born in Sydney, Carol was a life long resident of Grand Lake Road. She was the eldest daughter of the late Alex and Mary (Samson) Langlois. She was a member of St. Augustine parish. She was a longtime employee of F.W. Woolworth in Sydney and Sydney Mines. Carol travelled throughout Atlantic Canada assisting with store openings and she was employed as manager of the Sydney store until retirement. Carol is survived by her son, John (Carole Lee); grandchildren, Nicholas, Katelyn, Christian; her daughter, Linda; grandchildren, Cody and Courtney. Also surviving are sisters, Rose (Tom Cole), Charmaine (Leonard) Chiasson, Lorraine (Billy) McMullin, Debbie (Billy) Levangie and Cathy (Aubrey) Farrow, all of Sydney; and brothers, Alex (Mary) Langlois, Sydney, William (Colleen) Langlois, Halifax, and David (Marilyn) Langlois, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Rose Langlois, Vickie Langlois (Brian), Nancy (Leon) Peterson, Agnes Whalen and Veronica (Willis) Brace. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families and many friends at the bingo hall. Besides her parents, Carol was pre-deceased by her husband of 34 years, Jackie, her brothers, Simon and Wayne, her brothers-in-law, Russell, Leo, sisters-in-law, Zita, Josie, Theresa. Carol's family are very thankful for the care Carol received from her doctor Mike Ryan as well as the staff of emergency and ICU departments of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Special thanks to her sister Lorraine who was Carol's major care giver and her "bingo buddy". She will be missed by her Pokeno club members who met every Thursday. Born in West Arichat, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Margaret (Pelham) LeJeune. He was a member of the New Horizons Senior's Club in Arichat. Albert was born in Sydney Mines, Sept. 8, 1934. He was a son of the late Walter and Carlyon (Boutilier) Eveleigh. In Dad's younger years he liked playing hockey, bowling, fly tying, and playing baseball with the Barrington Street Rovers. Dad was a coal miner for 40 years working in the Princess coal mine and later in the Prince mine until his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed listening to music, playing the harmonica for all of his many friends and going up the line with his son-in-law, Johnny in the big truck. He also loved his beloved cottage in Margaree, where he would spend many happy hours fishing in the river, and enjoying the company of family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theresa (MacIntosh); daughters, Belinda (Johnny), Wanda (Johnnie), Gloria (Paul); son, Brian (Tammy); brothers, John (Myrtle), Louis (Fannie); sisters, Mary Evans, Agnes Devoe; grandchildren, Ryan, Cody, James, Michelle, Samantha, Darren Todd, Bryce, Matthew, Justin, Vickie and great-grandchildren. Anne passed away peacefully at the Cove Guest Home on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, with her loving family at her side. Born in Donkin, Nov. 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dolena (Smith) MacQueen. Anne was a member of St. Luke's United Church in Donkin, where she was strongly involved with the United Church Women, teaching Sunday school and various church youth groups. She was Past Nobel Grand of Queen Victoria Rebekah Lodge #63, Donkin. Anne's greatest pleasure was cooking and baking for family and friends. Anne will be sadly missed by her daughter, Norma (Al) Aucoin, Sydney; she was a loving and caring grandmother to her granddaughter, Belinda (Stuart) Ferguson, Bedford, N.S., and grandson, Brian (Carrie) Hedd, Moncton, N.B.; also great-grandchildren, Paige, Marissa and Marley; brother, Charles MacQueen, Glace Bay; sister, Catherine Jenkins, Dartmouth, N.S.; sisters-in-law, Tillie MacQueen, Donkin, and Genny Rountree, Hamilton, Ont.; many nieces, nephews; and close family friend, Owen Hedd, Reserve Mines. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Colin and Margaret (MacPherson) Graham. Frank was a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford. He was a coal miner, retiring from Devco at the age of 55. Frank was a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club; where he spent many hours playing cards with his friends. A quiet man, Frank enjoyed his Sunday drives across the Island of Cape Breton; exploring its natural beauty. He also loved going on his daily visits to the boardwalk in Dominion. Frank is survived by his sisters, Pearl Micholsky, New Waterford, Veronica 'Ronnie' Brinkley, Madison, Miss., Rita (Emo) Pacenti, Raleigh, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Eunice Passerini (with whom he resided all his life), Mary Catherine Mercier and brothers, John, Martin and Pius. Stewart was bon in Glace Bay, Jan. 30, 1913, the son of William Henry and Emmaroy Margaret (Smith) Sterns. He is survived by wife, Jeanette (MacVicar) Sterns and son, William Stewart (Elaine) Sterns; and was predeceased by daughter, Gwenyth Louise Sterns. Stewart graduated from Dalhousie University in 1937 with a bachelor of science and a bachelor of pharmacy. He was a long-standing business man in Glace Bay and area, having taken over the Medical Hall Pharmacy from his father in 1946 and retiring in 1984 at the age of 71. He was also very active in his community, being a member of many service clubs, the Glace Bay Glee Singers, a member and former Commodore of the Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club and a member of the Nova Scotia Pharmaceutical Society. A funeral service, under the direction of Patten Funeral Home, will be held at Knox United Church, Glace Bay, Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. No flowers or visitation by request. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Mary Corbett. For many years, Christine was employed with Social Services in New Waterford and the Cape Breton District School Board. She enjoyed spending her summers in Ben Eoin with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In the winters, Christine loved going to Florida with her husband John, where they also made many new friends. She remains in our memory as a fun-loving, strong-willed and family-oriented woman. She is survived by her loving and devoted, husband, John; daughter, Shawna (Bernie) Wilson, New Waterford; son, Jeff (Michelle), Halifax; and her cherished grandchildren, Kayla, Sara and Jack. Christine is also survived by her ever-supportive siblings, Elaine, Barbara, Alana, Bill; and her many nieces and nephews. Leonard was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in Europe in No. 85 and 86 Brigade Company of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. Prior to his retirement, Leonard worked at the Fortress of Louisbourg and for many years at the National Sea Products Plant in Louisbourg. Leonard is survived by his daughters, Linda (Richard Boates), Fredericton, Debbie (Kenny Fraser), Sydney, and Arlene Burke, Louisbourg; his brother, James Burke, Halifax; grandchild, Lisa Boates; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Patrick Landry. Jim was born on July 7, 1955 the seventh son of the late John James and Catherine (Swan) MacLeod of Bras d'Or. In his earlier years Jim sailed on the Great Lakes and later returned home to work with the Labourer's Union Local 1115. He was a good friend to many. He loved the outdoors, spending many nights in the woods hiking with his brother Larry and many days hiking and fishing with his nephews, Tyler and Brandon. Jim played hockey and baseball in his younger years and was a short stop with the ANAF Pirates softball team. He is survived by his sisters, Florence (Tom) Moylan, Ct., Anna Harvey, NC, Kay (Richard) Spezzano, Ct., Marlin (Charles) Ford, Ct. and Kimberly (Urban Jr.) Day, Bras d'Or. He is also survived by his brothers John (Cleo), Bras d'Or, George (Charlina), Alder Point, Dan (Sharon), Boularderie, Pat (Linda), Bras d'Or, Din (Pauline), Alder Point, Larry (Sharon), Sydney, and Reggie, Sydney Mines. He is also survived by his aunts, Mary (MacLeod) Patterson, Ont., Bridget (Swan) Thurbide, Mill Creek, Lois (Swan) Currie, Bras d'Or and Julia Swan of Florence. He is also survived by one uncle Reg Thurbide, Mill Creek and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private graveside service at a later date at St. James Cemetery in Big Bras d'Or where his parents are resting.
