Robert 'Bob' Piercey Bessie (Langley) Currie Edna Marion Sadler Clinton Roy MacLeod Condon Eugene Corbett Jr. Eddie Walker Carol Ann McPherson ******************************************************************************************************* Robert 'Bob' Piercey Born in: Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 23/02/2011 It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Robert Leo 'Bob' Piercey, on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at the An Cala unit of Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, following a lengthy and valiant battle with cancer. Born in Whitney Pier, he was the son of the late David and Margaret (Hayes) Piercey. Bob was a quiet man who was very well read and possessed a keen sense of humour. After serving in the army in his younger years, he returned to Sydney and was employed at Sydney Steel Corp. until his retirement. Bob never married and he made his home with his sister, Cecilia and her husband, John J. 'Juppy' MacNeil along with their children, Cheryl (Jim) MacDonald, Heather, Scott (Beth) and Glennis (Robert) Collins, who loved him dearly and deeply mourn his passing. He is survived by his sisters, Teresa (Harry) MacDonald and Margaret (John) Hickey as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother, Frank and two sisters, Cecilia (John J.) MacNeil and Christina (Ross) Rudderham. At Bob's request, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. Memorial service for the late Robert Leo 'Bob' Piercey will be celebrated at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25 with Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. Reception will take place following the service in the reception area. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks, at a later date. Donations in Bob's memory may be made to the An Cala unit of Cape Breton Regional Hospital or palliative care society. Online condolences may be sent to info@pierfuneralhome.com. ********************************* Bessie (Langley) Currie Born in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: New Aberdeen/Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 22/02/2011 Bessie Currie, 87, of Kennedy Drive, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, and raised in New Aberdeen, Bessie was the daughter of the late John and Annie (Anthony) Langley. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Bessie was a devoted Catholic and past member of the CWL at St. John's Church. She travelled frequently to St. Anne-de-Beaupre. Bessie loved her Monday bowling league and playing cards with her friends at Kennedy Drive. She was a very outgoing, compassionate and independent lady, who also enjoyed bingo and camping. Bessie is survived by her sons, Mike (Gerry), Pictou, Tom (Becky), Eastern Passage, Bob (Debbie), Sydney, Joe (Penny) and her daughter, Allyson (John Treige), both in Glace Bay. Also surviving are her 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Bessie was predeceased by her husband, Michael Currie, a daughter, Gwendolyn, son, Daniel 'Buddy,' sisters, Mamie Griffin, Stella Harmon and a daughter-in-law, Marilyn. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone, is Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in St. John's Church. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date in the parish cemetery. All are invited to join the family for a reception in the parish hall across from the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bessie's memory to the palliative care unit/Glace Bay Health Care Complex Charitable Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ********************************* Edna Marion Sadler Born in: Yarmouth Centre, Ontario, Canada Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 23/02/2011 Today we celebrate the passing of a wonderful woman, wife, mother and friend Edna Marion Sadler of Sydney. Marion passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 23, 2011. Marion was born in Yarmouth Centre, Ont., in 1931, and was married to her true love Albert Alexander Sadler who she fondly referred to as Alberta. They worked together and provided a legacy of life and love for their two daughters Lynn and Kim. The family left Ontario and moved with much uncertainty to the Maritimes in 1972. She eventually came to love 'God's Country' and never thought of leaving her home of Cape Breton. She was very involved in her church, Saint George's, it was her strength and she made many life-long friends there. Marion was an avid gardener and spent many hours in her special garden nourishing her flowers. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Ab, and a granddaughter, Rebecca. She is remembered by her daughters, Lynn Robinson (David), Kim Sadler, Nancy Storms; a sister, Joy Gloin (Laurence); and brother, Rick Rogers (Barb). The joy of her life were her grandchildren, Nathan Vakaras (Kathleen Aucoin), Stephen Robinson (Amanda Curtis) and Tamara Robinson. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation for the VONs and caregivers who made Marion's days enjoyable and peaceful. A special thanks to the Palliative Care Services and Beth Fraser Latham who gave the family the support they needed. Cremation has taken place. Born in Prince Edward Island, he was the son of Mrs. Irene Hepburn, P.E.I., and the late Roy MacLeod. He was a truck driver by trade and he enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
