Cape Breton Deaths July 02, 2001 Monday James C. Guy - Sydney Mines Jimmy C. Guy, 90, of Guy St., Sydney Mines, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney Mines, Jimmy was the son of the late George and Mary Love (Hennessey) Guy. He was an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, serving as an elder, choir member and enjoying the Mens' Group until his passing. Over the years, he served the congregation as a board member. Jim was very active in community events, serving on the Board of Directors of Princess Credit Union, Harbour View Hospital, Northside General Hospital, Combined Christmas Cheer, and was a current board member of the Miners Memorial Manor. He was a man of many talents, who served his town and country well. He was very proud of the 'Man of the Year' award he received in 1992. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998. Jim loved his family and friends and the wonderful gifts God had given him. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Eliza Hatcher; son, Archie (Carol); daughter, Zalie (Mrs. Gordon Matheson); sister, Shirley Jarrett; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, William, Geordie, Fred, and Alex; sisters, May, Jennie, Bertha, Jessie, Hennie, Annie Agnes, and Maggie. Visitation will be 2-4, 6-9 p.m. Tuesday in the G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rev. Ken MacRae officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines. Donations may be made in Jimmy's memory to the Miners Memorial Manor or St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Choir.
