Michelle 'Shelly' Tweedie-Chiasson Steven Brewster Lena MacKay Tanya McIntyre James 'Fritz' Fraser William 'Richie' Burke Lorne Lane Edna Marion Sadler ******************************************************************************************************* Michelle 'Shelly' Tweedie-Chiasson Passed away in: Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada Passed away on: 19/02/2011 It is with mixed emotions of loss and joy that the family of Michelle Tweedie-Chiasson, R.N. announce her passing at Prince Edward Home (Palliative Care Unit), Charlottetown, P.E.I. on Saturday, Feb.19, 2011. Michelle was the beloved daughter of Sharon and Hugh Tweedie of Sydney, Nova Scotia. She graduated from Riverview Rural High School and attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish -- graduating with her BSC (Biology) in 1985. She later pursued a career in nursing obtaining her RN designation in Regina, Sask. in 1987. She worked at various hospitals; Peel Memorial in Brampton, Ottawa General, Moncton Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. Michelle was also employed on a part-time basis by Shoppers Drug Mart Home Care where she went to patients' homes administering medications to persons unable to travel. Michelle and her family attended the Christian Reformed Church in Charlottetown where she was a member of various groups and chairperson of the Church Worship Committee. Michelle's witness of faith and love for our Lord touched many and with her lovely voice she praised him with her song. She and her daughter, Katie wrote a song of praise called, Holy Road. Michelle had a wonderful sense of humour and was a good friend to many, always willing to take the time to listen and provide comfort to those in need. Even in her deteriorating health, Michelle's radiant smile, pleasant demeanor and spicy wit were ever present. Everyone who knew her, loved her and will remember her for her warm personality and her positive outlook on life. Michelle is survived by her husband of 25 years, Maurice Chiasson; daughter, Laura, Halifax and daughter, Katie, home and only son, Paul, home. She is also survived by her older brother, Loran Tweedie, Bras d'Or; sister, Patricia Keagan, Westmount and Craig Tweedie (Paula), Howie Center; and her mother-in-law, Bernedette Chiasson, (Placide, deceased). She will be greatly missed by her eight nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Maxine Brewster, Sydney, and the late Jerome Brewster. Besides his mother, Maxine, Steven is survived by his sister, Mary Lecoure (Ellis), Sydney; his brother, Jerome 'Jerry' Brewster (Michael Milner), Windsor, Ont.; his nephew, Steven Lecoure; as well as many friends and extended family. Besides his father, Jerome, he was predeceased by his companion, Tanya MacIntyre. Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, from 12-2 p.m. at the S.W. Much loved wife and best friend of Graham MacKay. Born in Red Islands, Richmond County, N.S. Mother of Darren (Lisa), Cornwall, and Scott (Cheryl), Summerside. Grandmother of Colin, Reilly, Cameron, Alexander and Lauren. Sister of Eunice, Rita, Cora, Viola of Nova Scotia, Marion, Tina, Sheila, Dianne of Ontario; and a brother, Frank of Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by a son, Darryl in infancy, parents, Stephen and Mary (Carey) MacNeil, her sister, Sally and brother-in-law, Angus. Born in Glace Bay and raised in Steele's Hill, she was the daughter of Bill and Nancy Rogers. Tanya Lee was a member of the Salvation Army in Glace Bay. She was a very compassionate lady with a heart of gold; always there to help others in their time of need. She always loved going for drives; especially out near the Mira. Tanya Lee is survived by the love of her life, her son, Baily McIntyre, whom she referred to as, 'Little Dude.' Also left to mourn her passing are her three sisters, Christa (George Smith), Reserve, Jill (David Vincent), Newfoundland, Marie Strickland, Ontario; maternal grandparents, Rita and Bill McIntyre; niece, Taylor Smith; nephews, Jeffery, Alexander, Marx; aunts, uncles, family and friends. Tanya Lee was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Richard and Rachael Rogers as well as her companion, Steven Brewster. Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home,16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Capt. Kristian Simms, will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Citadel, Union Street, Glace Bay, followed by a reception in the lower level of the Citadel. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Tanya Lee will be taken to the church at noontime Monday. Online condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca. ************************************ James 'Fritz' Fraser Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 23/02/2011 James Larder 'Fritz' Fraser, age 81, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his wife, Florence and his family at his side. He is survived by his wife, Florence and sons, James (Maria), Fred (Rose) and Stephen (Kelly). Fritz was a proud grandfather to Erin, Courtney, Sean, Kenzie, Jay, Pamela, Natalie, Duncan James, Samantha, Jenna and great-grandchildren, Mathew and Leah. Also surviving are his brother, Charlie and sisters, Gertie and Edna. Fritz was predeceased by his daughter, Donna. Following a 46 year career at Nova Scotia Power, Fritz enjoyed a 20 year retirement with Florence. His greatest joy was being a wonderful 'Papa' to his grandchildren. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel (today) Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m., Rev. Anthony O'Connor officiating. Born in Lingan, he was the son of the late Michael (Mickey) and Georgina (Seymour) Burke. Richie is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Emerance (Clements); children, Michael (Jeanie) Richie (Ruthie), Karen (George), all of New Waterford, Brian (Tanya), Glace Bay. His beautiful grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Shera (Josh) Alberta, Jenna, Scott, Shane, Kristen, Jessica, Warren, Matthew and one very special great- grandchild, Jayden. Also surviving are brothers, Mike (Sheila) Eddy (Sharon), Glace Bay; sisters, Kay Royal, Linda Burke; as well as several nieces and nephews and many great friends. A true Montreal Canadiens fan, Richie would never miss a game. He was also known throughout town for his meticulously clean cars; if Richie wasn't watching a Habs game he was washing and waxing his car. Richie worked for Devco at No. 12 and Lingan collieries until his early retirement in 1987 due to illness. Richie was predeceased by his sisters, Frankie, Carmella, a sister Nellie in infancy. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place as per Richie's request, under the care and direction of Mclellan Brothers Funeral Home. A funeral mass of celebration will take place on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard's with Fr. Lorne is survived by his three beloved daughters, Linda Johnson (David) of Ottawa, Audrey Ranni (Ernie) of Windsor, Ont., and Lorna Irwin (Rick) and their son Christopher of Barrie, Ont. He is also survived by one sister, Marjorie MacDonald (Rev. Donald) of Sydney, N.S. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Myrtle Lane of Sydney, N.S., two sisters, Noreen and Verna and one brother, Kenneth. Lorne was also the proud grandfather of six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Lorne was known for his quick wit and humour and a twinkle in his eye. He had a love for working with time pieces which his family will treasure. Lorne was a dedicated worker for 30 years at Wellington Place apartments. Cremation has already taken place. He will be truly missed by his family. Donations to the RVH Foundation or your local food bank would be appreciated. ********************************************** Edna Marion Sadler Edna Marion Sadler - (Died February 23, 2011) Born in: Yarmouth Centre, Ontario, Canada Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 23/02/2011 Today we celebrate the passing of a wonderful woman, wife, mother and friend Edna Marion Sadler of Sydney. Marion passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 23, 2011. Marion was born in Yarmouth Centre, Ont., in 1931, and was married to her true love Albert Alexander Sadler who she fondly referred to as Alberta. They worked together and provided a legacy of life and love for their two daughters Lynn and Kim. The family left Ontario and moved with much uncertainty to the Maritimes in 1972. She eventually came to love 'God's Country' and never thought of leaving her home of Cape Breton. She was very involved in her church, Saint George's, it was her strength and she made many life-long friends there. Marion was an avid gardener and spent many hours in her special garden nourishing her flowers. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Ab, and a granddaughter, Rebecca. She is remembered by her daughters, Lynn Robinson (David), Kim Sadler, Nancy Storms; a sister, Joy Gloin (Laurence); and brother, Rick Rogers (Barb). The joy of her life were her grandchildren, Nathan Vakaras (Kathleen Aucoin), Stephen Robinson (Amanda Curtis) and Tamara Robinson. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their appreciation for the VONs and caregivers who made Marion's days enjoyable and peaceful. A special thanks to the Palliative Care Services and Beth Fraser Latham who gave the family the support they needed. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 25 from 6-7 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
