(Ley McPhee) Hogan Hilda (Pafford) Gabriel-Lake ******************************************************************************************************* Mary (Dawe) MacDonald Born on: 08/02/1912 Passed away in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 30/10/2010 Mary Violet (Dawe) MacDonald, 98, of New Victoria, died peacefully Saturday morning, Oct. 30, 2010. She had been residing at the Congregation of Notre Dame Health Care Center, MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney, since May, 2010. Born Feb. 8, 1912, Mae was a longtime resident of Whitney Pier and member of Holy Redeemer parish. She was a daughter of the late Ronald and Mary Louise (Berthier) Dawe; granddaughter of Robert Roderick and Norah (Hall) Dawe of Newfoundland and George Damase and Charlotte Caroline (Landry) Berthier of L'Ardoise. She was predeceased by husband, Neil James MacDonald; sisters, Charlotte Dawe and Patricia (Dan Hugh McInnis), Antigonish and brother, Harold Dawe (Alice Young), South Bar, Cape Breton. She is survived by daughter, Annette (Robert Purcell) of Sydney and grandchildren, Thomas Lathigee, Dartmouth, Anita (John Dalton) and Andrew Lathigee (Cynthia Lush), Halifax; son, Michael and grandchildren, Sonya, Karen (David Hawkins), Arlene (Jason Lettues), all of Sydney, and Michael (Patricia Kibyuk), Glace Bay; son, Neil Vincent, New Victoria; daughter, Rosemary (Donald McLean) D'Escousse, Cape Breton and grandchildren, Jenny (Adan Lopes-Sanchez), Halifax, Nancy (Keepeng Lau), Port Williams, Charlotte (Aaron Mahoney), Vancouver, Joseph, Wolfville and Mary, Antigonish; son Ronald (Audrey Tighe), New Victoria and grandchildren, Jason (Angela Brenneman), Kitchener, Ont. and Laura (Faren Doucette), Halifax. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Andrew Austen Lathigee, Lincoln Creaser, Michael and Faith Hawkins, Dylan Lettues, Isabel and Anna Lopez-McLean, Bethany and Danika Mahoney and Ellen Kai-Li Lau; as well as many nieces and nephews. After graduating from the Nova Scotia Normal College in 1930, Mae began teaching at Cape George School, Ballantyne's Cove, Antigonish. She also taught at Low Point, (the present New Victoria, Cape Breton County). Her family grown, she returned to teaching in Sydney at Villanova Elementary and Holy Redeemer High School and in 1976 retired from Holy Angels High School. Her love of learning and the extensive breadth of her interests were lifelong. She continued to read widely, and to be a wise friend and advisor to her five children. Arrangements are under the care and direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, New Waterford. As our mother wished, cremation has taken place and the immediate family will attend a service of interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Victoria. Father Raymond Huntley will conduct a memorial mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, at St. Leonard's Parish Church, New Waterford. A reception will be held immediately following the mass at the parish hall, 310 Convent St., New Waterford, all are welcome. Donations may be made in our mother's memory to the Cape Breton Regional Library, the Scarboro missions or to a charity of choice To express your condolences directly to the family please go to www.mclellanfuneralhome.com. ************************************** Lillian 'Jean' Lloyd Born in: Saskatchewan, Canada Passed away in: South Head, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 31/10/2010 Lillian Jean Lloyd, 70 of 65 Church Lane, South Head, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Saskatchewan, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Lillian (Aitken) Shuttle. She was a member of the C.B. Crafters Association, the Art Foundation and was affectionately known as the Quillow Lady. She will be deeply missed. Jean's energy never stopped; her presence will always be felt. She is survived by her husband Laurie F.; three daughters, Helene (Keith) Bloor, Edmonton, Alta., Vera (Gerard) Wadden, Halifax, Debbie (Keith) Murrant, Glace Bay; three sons, Tim, Sidney 'Todd', both of South Head, Dwayne (Melinda), Dominion; sister, Joan (Bob) Baker, Sask.; brothers, Brian Shuttle; Gordon (Carol) Shuttle, both of Sask.; 17 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Vivian. There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Lloyd. A private committal service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the C.B. (Ley McPhee) Hogan Born in: Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away in: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed away on: 31/10/2010 It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we the family of Florence Margaret (Ley/McPhee) Hogan, 72, of New Waterford announce her peaceful passing on Oct. 31, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Lucy Ann (LeBlanc) Ley. Florence was predeceased by her first husband, James McPhee, daughter, Donna Grace, sister, Sabina McKinnon, brother, Alex Ley, two brothers in infancy and two granddaughters, Nicole and Holly, New Waterford. Florence leaves behind her husband, Patrick Hogan; daughter, Jo-Ann Jennex-Desin (Bill); sons, James McPhee (Fern), Robert McPhee (Angie), all of New Waterford, Stephen McPhee (Kelli) Alberta; stepchildren, Patrick Hogan (Christine), Alberta, Trace Hogan, Sydney. She also leaves behind sisters, Louise McCallum (Howard), Sydney, Isabelle Smith (Len), Ontario, Mary Leudy (Tony), New Waterford; brothers, Wilbert Ley (Eileen), Sydney, and Paul Ley (Mary), Sydney; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; many special nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law, sons and daughters-in-law, friends and her pride and joy, her dog, Matty. Florence worked for many years at the New Waterford Consolidated hospital with the dietary staff, and owned a local business in New Waterford with James McPhee known as Flo's Bake, Pop & Pizza. She was a longtime member of the New Waterford Lioness club holding all offices, a past member of the New Waterford Legion and the ladies auxiliary of the KOC. Her greatest enjoyment in life was providing a wonderful home for her loving family. We the family would like to thank the staff of the CCU at the Regional Hospital with special thanks to nurses Joy, Jen and Amanda, who helped make her passing as easy as possible with their special care and kindness. Visitation will be held today (Tuesday, Nov. 2) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Florence will take place Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, will Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will be held at the Carmel Centre immediately following the funeral mass. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
